Virginia Tech is ranked #47 in the Massey composite computer ranking.  They have lost lost to:

  • #14 Duke
  • #29 North Carolina (twice)
  • #38 Memphis
  • #47 Xavier
  • #53 Miami North Carolina
  • #66 Dayton
  • #75 Virginia
  • #79 Clemson
  • #117 Boston College
  • #118 NC State

We are ranked #19 in the same ranking and have lost to:

  • #1 Gonzaga
  • #3 Kansas
  • #5 Baylor (twice)
  • #12 Texas Tech (twice)
  • #28 Seton Hall
  • #39 TCU
  • #45 Okie State
  • #44 Iowa State
  • #70 K-State

So of our 10 losses, only one has been to a school worse than Virginia Tech.  They on the other hand have lost 10 games to teams worse than us.

We have also beaten 8 teams better than them.  They have only beaten one team better than us (in the 2nd time playing them).

I really don't think they are going to be ready for our level of defense.  Additionally, they have just played 5 games in the last week while we have been resting up and practicing.  Like I said, I'm not worried. Beard knows that his reputation isn't made in the Big-12 Tournament. It is made in the NCAA tourney.

VT has won a bunch of close games to mediocre teams. We’ve lost a bunch of close games to much better teams. VT being favored is fine but saying VT feels more like a 6 and we’re 11 is a bit of a reach. We’ll see though

Texas is favored right now. But likely won't be as we get into the week.

Daisy chaining games and using transitive axioms are not going to matter.

There are 4-5 teams, other than the obvious like Zags, KU and Zona, no one wants to face right now as they are very hot and/or playing very good ball.

We got a bad draw with one of them.
The others are: Iowa, UCLA, Tenn, UH.
All of those got screwed with seeding too.

That just tells me that the committee made it up its mind last week.

Conf tournaments really didn’t matter much. Only upsets from 1 or 2 bid leagues and the ACCT

Here are some other relevant stats: over their last 15 games, Va Tech is 13-2 and Texas is 8-7.

Texas is 16-3 at Erwin.  Texas is 5 and fucking 8 away from Erwin.

And are you really trying to count rest in our favor and tired legs against them?  I mean, that's one way to spin the fact that they won their conference tourney and beat UNC and Duke in the process while we blew a gazillion point lead to TCU to lose our third game in a row.  But I'm pretty sure their legs will be back five days from now.

Look, I hope we win, but this is a coin flip.  And IF we win, Purdue will be more like rolling a die and needing a 1.  If you're "not worried" about either of those matchups, I'm not even sure what Texas team you've been watching all season.  We can't even play two good halves in a row, much less four.

Reverse jinx, engage...

That's Bilas philosophy... he said today that the committee should just seed teams based on regular season results, and then adjust for any upsets where the conference tournament championship is won by non-seeded ncca tournament teams.

Hell, it might make sense to forget playing the conference tournaments -- a few injuries this weekend may really hurt some teams going forward...

They’ll probably lose in the first round of the NIT now

Alcorn State was 17-16 this season.  They suck, I have no idea how they got an NIT bid and, say, Fresno State didn't.

Edit: NM, they were SWAC champs at 14-4 in conference, ahead of 13-5 TSU.

Antonelli does decent work on color.

If we have to have the gender equality shit in the mens tournament I'm fine with her.

Yeah she’s not awful. Prefer her to Dedes actually

Only us (6th) and TTU (11th), of Big 12 teams, give up less PPG than VT (22nd) in the nation. And if you have watched them play this year, you would know they play some mean D.
Mike Young can coach. This will be a tough game. We got a shitty draw.

Lulz, using PPG as a metric to judge anything these days, when there are much better tools available. Every advanced metric will tell you that VT is not a good defensive team, and neither is Purdue. Texas got a good draw. Carr and Allen should do some damage this coming weekend.

I mean, sure, but is VT better than K State or Okie St?  Because we lost to both of those teams.

That's the problem: you never know what you're gonna get with Texas.  We have stretches where we look like we can beat any team in this tournament and stretches where we look like we can't beat any team in this tournament, and often those stretches are in the same game.

And you're not worried about Purdue, really?  You're looking at the two best games we played all year and assuming that's who we really are, not the other 30-something games, so Purdue is proper fucked?  I mean, I like the enthusiasm, but I hope someone's got your car keys.

Okie State is likely a better team than Viriginia Tech. The only way they make the tournament was to win their conference tournament, they did, and should be commended for it. They are also an 11 seed after winning those 4 games.

Bruh. I appreciate the discussion. But make sure you give Fonzi his jacket back after you jumped that shark.

The spread is 1 for a 6/11 matchup. Maybe the folks in the desert know something about basketball.

The number of your seed MAY not be indicative of how strong you are or how you match up with the team you’re playing.

It ain’t the only one. Friars are only a 2’ fave against SDSU. That’s a 4/13 match up. Vegas has big hotels/casinos for a reason.

Save me that some of that Cheech strain my good sir.

Bilas just trashed Texas -- says if Refs allow freedom of movement no way Texas beats Va Tech.

Said Texas is more of a #11 seed than Va Tech -- said flip seeds make Va Tech a #6 seed makes more sense...

told ya.  he's been setting this bullshit up all year.  I hope we shove it in his big fat face.  fuck that dude.

OSU wouldn't have needed to run the conference tournament to make the NCAA's had they been eligible.

You know they were 15-15, right?
This has to be a joke.
If not, please let us know what you are drinking and/or smoking. I may need to switch liquors and/or strains.

I think the aggy AD should write a sternly worded letter to the selection committee letting them know just how rich aggy A&M really is.

https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/3277936

yo dawg already on that

How about make a statement and ask the committee for a real and fullsome explanation beholding to their own guidelines on full body of work.

He doesn't have to kick someone's ass in the octagon, but for ****'s sake, he's the commissioner of the SEC and the NCAA committee just committed malpractice in broad daylight. I think he's within his lane to demand they provide some real answers, and if they don't to call out their integrity.

What does the SEC need from the NCAA? The NCAA dies if the SEC says so, and all these other commissioners that sat on this committee need to be held to account for not doing their job.

If you're reading, Sankey is on the forefront of blowing up the NCAA. And that all begins with football. Where the SEC had legitimate leverage.

Not sure what he was supposed to do today other than issue a sternly worded letter.

Sternly worded letter would be a nice start.

It's not like there isn't essentially irrefutable evidence that could be included in said letter.

It's not like he's stretching out on limb saying these guys completely botched their job when you can just take their own guidelines and line up the resumes of Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Wyoming, Miami and Rutgers.

Agreed. Doesn't seem like he did much of anything today or yesterday for that matter

Ha ok man. Sankey didn't so **** and you and we all know that. Don't extrapolate that opinion into some kook level bs

How bout just use his influence to make sure SEC interests are represented in the committee.

Surprised nobody has thought about having Barnes play scrubs where we would for sure win, and get seven teams in the dance. Tennessee didn't gain anything by beating us really. Title of tourney winner is it. Think Sankey could have handled that.

^^^^ I think that might be a joke, but it is texags so you never know

i don't normally quote someone just to say "this", but yeah- that's pretty much exactly what i was coming here to say. we got a really, really tough draw. Va Tech will be a very tough out, and should we end up meeting purdue, they will likely handle us no problem. a win over VT will be the happiest i've been since the win vs OU Shaka's first year.
