I have tix for the toadies in plano on sat night but I may have to skip it. I’ve been traveling M-F each week for work the past four weeks, and it’s time to spend some time with the wife.

Ha ha, good one.

Seeing Rodney Crowell then Wilco this fall. 1st time to see either one.

Need tips for Jerry World, it’ll be my first time there for Metallica, Aug 18 and Aug 20

where to stay ?

where to be dropped off ?

where to be picked up ?

Any other tips ?

thanks

I normally drive to AT&T. The masses exit from 30 on the north side of the stadium so it’s a bottleneck.

I live far north Dallas and take George Bush there. I pass 30 and come in from the south side and park in lot 13.

My phone notes:

Take George Bush tollway south/west

Go past I-30

exit E Division St

turn right and go west about 3 miles

turn right on AT&T Way

Section 13 is on right (past section 14)

I live in Dallas so I can’t recommend any hotels near the stadium. That being said, Arlington lacks… umm… charm. To put it nicely.

Wife (no pics) and I went to the second Nashville show of George Strait/Chris Stapleton/Little Big Town at Nissan Stadium.  Show was cut short by storms.  George did 33 songs the night before, only 14 on our night.  Not a country music fan, but have always appreciated George and Stapleton is pretty good too.  First time seeing George, disappointed it was cut short.

My wife has vowed this will be our last attempt at a Summer outdoor concert.  Last year we went to Garth at Nissan Stadium and he never even took the stage before rain and lightning of biblical proportions cancelled the show.  Got our money back on that one.

Saw ZZ Top last night and for his age Billy did pretty well. Some songs he had a rough time with the vocals I guess depending on where in his range they fell. No Tush or Beer Drinkers on the setlist which I assume is due to Dusty's absence.  Also no Cheap Sunglasses. Oh well. It was fun but I'll stick to listening to them from their prime for here on out.

Jerry World can be a shit-show. I imagine it will be rough for Metallica. Uber in and out of there ain't easy but it's been awhile since I tried (U2 several years ago, maybe). I was there on Saturday for the Barca-Real match but we drove since we had a nice parking pass. See if they're running shuttles from J Gilligan's in Arlington. That could be an option. Decent college bar with awesome Irish Nachos (tater skins with cheese, pico, etc). You might have to wait for surge pricing to die down but you can drink while you wait. Texas Live wasn't there when we went to U2. That should be fun. Check to see if there's a Rangers game on the nights you're going -- if so, good luck! There is a fancy hotel at Texas Live (adjacent) -- not sure the cost but I'm sure it ain't cheap. But it would be convenient. Otherwise, I'd stay in Las Colinas at the Omni or stay in downtown/uptown Dallas.

I checked the Rangers' schedule -- looks like they play Friday night and in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday so you're probably good on the 20th. Friday will be awful out there logistically.

Might want to see if Alto will go out to Jerry World. I haven't used them much but they appear to be more reliable than Uber/Lyft. Pretty sure you pay $13/month to use the service but it might be worth it for the weekend for you and your buddy if it can more efficiently get you out there and back, especially on Friday night.

Going to Duran Duran tonight with the wife, and GOLL and his wife.

Pretty sure this concert is all about the ladies having a good time.  I'm sure I'll enjoy the show, I dig some Duran Duran tunes.  But the ladies were super-into it back in the day.

We saw them over Memorial Day weekend. Pretty, pretty, pretty good show.

Local band Living Pins have gotten Duran Duran's attention.  One of them (Simon?) spins their tunes on his podcast.  They got to go backstage at the Austin show, and totally fan-girled, as they should.  (Carrie Clark & Pam Peltz from 16 Deluxe & Ursa Major, respectively):

Just got back from Pickathon.  Music fest held in the woods outside of Portland.

I'm fucking beat.  Lots of walking up hills and copious amounts of mushrooms.

Some favorites-

Wine Lips:  I've been wanting to see them for a couple of years and they rarely come through Portland.  The did not disappoint.  They brought the energy.  The whole barn was a sweaty pit.  Loved every second.

Sgt. Papers:  I had never heard of them but they blew me away.  Mexican psychedelic punk rock.  @stc I think you would probably dig them if you don't already know about them.

GA-20:  Saw them twice at this fest and 4 times in the past year.  I think they're great and criminally underrated.

W.I.T.C.H.:  60-70's psychedelic African rock band.  So glad i finally got to see them.  Very influential.

Lee Fields:  Saw him twice.  Just great old school soul.

Mikaela Davis:  Very surprised by this woman/group.  Mikaela sounds like Harriet Wheeler of The Sundays, plays a harp, and performs southern rock.  I was impressed.

Small Paul, Hooverii, Nat Myers, and Vieux Farka Toure' all kicked ass.  I feel like I only saw about 25% of the bands that played.  Each group had two performances scheduled so that the volunteers working could go go see all of their favorites.

Great fest.  I'll volunteer to work on the film crew again next year.

I forgot to post that I finally saw The National (Philly) after many years of either work conflicts or ticket price robbery. Great show with 25 songs including the encore. I was a little jealous of the previous night who got Don't Swallow the Cap, but our set list was awesome too. The Beths opened and were a lot of fun.

Side story, I was a bit distracted by the woman in front of us having a large-font text conversation that I must say evoked all the Vic Mackey POF threads. And her appearance would also fit the legend of Vic. Here's what I saw before we moved to a better view of the band:

Him: It would be impossible for me to turn you out. But I can make you feel good

Her: Why impossible? My love is the shit

Him: I'm a freak tho

Her: Daddy gets what he wants

If you're bringing a lady friend, bag policy is always in effect. Metal detectors can't pick up glass bottles or plastic flasks so no need to utilize your prison wallet. Casino is at least an hour and a half away depending on which one you're wanting to "hit up". If you like whiskey and cigars, old Rangers stadium has a whiskey and cigar bar called Hearsay that's enjoyable.

I don’t drink much, but a rye and cigar is always enjoyable. No lady friends this trip, bro trip
