Looks like there's a last minute recruiting battle for Wesley

Is that based on a report from any news source? His scheduled signing ceremony hasn't happened yet.

Does this raise questions about our Baker?

I'd wait until NSD2 and the transfer haul is complete, but that's just me.

Extremely relevant to Texas recruiting.

What the hell would motivate a kid to sign to North Carolina’s dumpster fire program?

A couple million dollars and the knowledge that he can leave easily?

He's a huge fan of competitive adult cheerleading.

To be fair to Helobious, it's more relevant than Eric Estrada.

Everyone's in now except for Wells, who may also flip. Cleveland has been gone for weeks, he just waited until NSD to announce it. But I thought if we lost Cleveland, we'd at least keep Wells. Losing both would be pretty annoying.

A three man OL haul doesn't really seem optimal, especially with one being a project.  Should have at least got one of Krempin or Roseborough instead of both going to aggy.

I remember early in the recruiting season we were teary eyed about who was going to be left out of the class since we were getting…

Don't worry we'll load up in the portal

I agree, although the counterpoint is that next year's line class is supposedly good (bear in mind I die a little inside every time I write "next year" because it's a TexAgs speciality.)

Beating a dead horse, but O-line recruiting needs a big reevaluation.

Also, they won’t be available next year or ideally until two years from now. As things stand, development will have to happen, which is another reason we want good coaches.

The guy I'm questioning, happily without waiting to see if anything can be done to clean his mess up, is Kyle Flood. I've been patient and haven't questioned his recruiting choices, but now Texas is at a stage where depth is problem, talent looks like a problem and development, at least on the interior, is a problem. Sure, the portal might be able to solve some of this, but we've mocked Badenbaugh for exactly the shit Flood is doing now.

Interesting.  Per ESPN, we got four 5-star players.  Iirc, two from GA; two from FL.  Since my time on the 40 mostly sucked from a football standpoint - RRR aside - I think my biggest thrill was when we landed Lovell Pinckney out of DC.  I couldn't believe my mighty Longhorns pulled the 56th or so ranked player AND he wasn't even a Texan.

My temperature rises knowing that we had Stacey Searles on campus the last year of Mack and have his daughter on staff, and then see what he is doing at Georgia.

BTW, Pinkney was a massive asshole. I know this from personal experience as a kid on the sidelines.

Pretty sure they were saying the same thing about this year's class.. and last year's. There are elite OL every year in TX. Flood is either a terrible recruiter or we aren't keeping up with the market.

I'll add to this that a paucity of scholarships devoted to this position group was one of the huge red flags in the late stages of Mack Brown's tenure.

If you're only going to sign three bodies then every one of them needs to be playing starter or useful reserve snaps.  What's worse about this class, in particular, is that they all have developmental roadblocks, i.e., there's not a Nick Brooks, much less a Kelvin Banks, who has the physical aptitude to play early.

Honestly, I've hoped wondered if the poor OL haul is in part due to the uncertainty about Flood's future.

I have no evidence to support this, but my tin foil hat conspiracy theory is that, as part of our resource allocation strategy, we believe that recruiting “large humans” more than highly rated OL yields 80% of the benefit at 20% of the cost. Based on historical quotes related to the Atlanta Falcons, I suspect Sark is at least as much behind this belief as Flood.

They were not. This was known to be a weak OL class for years, with Turntine (looks like a basketball player) and Ojo (looks like Tarzan plays like Jane) not exactly stunning top-line guys.

Letting Ojo play us like a damn fiddle while decisions were being made across the country was not great.

I specifically remember someone (Bobby?) saying two years ago that he believed the junior Turntine to be the best OL in the state regardless of class.

They came in at the 11th hour with a much larger NIL package.  Horns could have matched but opted not to.

Well maybe that leaves more powder for Richard Anderson and Lamar Brown? Either that or another portal addition. Question isn’t directed at you, just my contribution to the discussion of that development.

I think Lamar Brown is more into aggy. He's never been pro-Texas (or non-pro) he's more indifferent towards us. Anderson on the other hand, that would be massive.

I think all three might projects. Turntine is offered as a tackle but projected inside, and I'm not sure he knows how to do that or if they keep him at tackle. If he stays at LT we better hope he can add weight to start in two years, but I don't see him beating out Brooks in 2027. Unless he knows how to play RT, then he's can take over for Baker, but I don't know if he knows how to play RT, or if he'll stick around until 2028 if Baker hasn't left early. Both Robertson and Scherer are not ready, and I mean even two years from now. Unless Robertson is just much better than his ranking indicates, which would not surprise me, but also would worry me a little if he's beating out the likes of Kibble, Cojoe, and/or Chatman. I expect nothing out of either of the Camblell twins, or Stroh. We have only one true C and that's Cruz, but we know nothing about him, or if he's any good. He can't beat out Robertson, so I don't know what to think.

Other than OL, RB and WR, it's a good class. Surely, the coaches have plans to fill those holes, right?

There is nothing wrong with the RB class, Derreck Cooper is one of the top RBs in the nation. The WR class is fine, the OL class is bad.

Flood has got to go. 5 years and this is what your product is…nah. That’s just piss poor.

Pretty sure most people bitched about Searles when he was here, too. If you spend time reading other message boards, you'll realize that virtually no fanbase is pleased with their offensive line coach for one reason or another (recruiting, development, cooking ability, etc.). I'm inclined to give Flood a bit of rope after seeing Christian Jones go from Tristan Nickelson to very good college lineman, plus the other 3 draft picks over the last few years. Obviously this year was a disaster, the interior in general has fluctuated from meh to total shit show, and the recruiting takes post-pancake factory seem extremely iffy absent serious development like Goosby. I think Sark needs to focus NIL on the offensive line in the same way he seems to have focused on the defensive line in the last cycle.
