Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

BTW, Corpus Christi is an hour closer to Austin than Galveston is. So there.

Not that Corpus Christi is exactly paradise or will remind anyone of Hawaii, either, but the water isn't brown.

It’s green instead of brown, but not blue. Also the massive population of sea manatees that crowd the beaches drags it down as well. But corpus does have S tier bay fishing going for it.

Perhaps you're not aware of the dimensions of the average Samoan?

Fong with a few Texas updates

Still battling for five-star running back

Alabama is trending heavy on the On3 RPM including my prediction for five-star running back Ezavier Crowell. The intel continued to favor the Crimson Tide into Tuesday night.

With that being written, sources around Austin remain optimistic about where they stand with Crowell. Fresh off beating Oregon for five-star defensive lineman Richard Wesley, now Sarkisian and company are on the gas to do the same with Alabama and Crowell.

While my pick is on Alabama, nobody should be stunned about Texas winning any recruiting battles on decision day.

Texas working towards an elite offensive line haul

This position has always been a priority for Sarkisian since landing in Austin and thus far in 2026 they have pledges from four-star offensive tackle Max Wright and interior offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson.

Moving forward you have the two elite in-state targets in five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo and the nation’s No. 2 interior offensive lineman John Turntine. Confidence remains high around UT that both land in Austin. Ojo is also looking at Ohio State while Turntine’s favorites include Stanford, Texas A&M and Michigan. The Cardinal and Wolverines look like the biggest challengers.

Beyond those two, Texas is all in on On300 offensive tackle Malakai Lee. I believe they’re battling Michigan. The Wolverines have been a long-time front-runner. The Longhorns have been closing the gap.

Defensive line notes

Sounds like Texas had a great visit over the weekend with four-star edge rusher Trenton Henderson. Florida and LSU had the inside track with the Gators on the On3 RPM favorite coming in.

On3 RPM remains on Texas for four-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil. I still like my prediction for Jamarion Carlton as well.

Don’t rule out Texas for four-star defensive lineman Damari Simeon.

New Longhorns On3 RPM

Joined Inside Texas’s Eric Nahlin in predictiong four-star linebacker Kosi Okpala to the Longhorns.

Peach State Buzz

I get the sense following this past weekend’s official visit, folks that spent time with five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson see it coming down to Georgia, Oregon and Texas. He’s still working through his process but the Longhorns continue to give him a lot to think about.

The Longhorns continue to battle Alabama for five-star linebacker/edge Xavier Griffin heading into his weekend decision. I’d still lean Crimson Tide today but Texas values Griffin as much as any prospect they’re recruiting.

Well, I guess we will be gaining some clarity over the next two weeks.

Except for worrying about holding on to the ones we've got, and hoping to flip the ones we don't. But you did say "some".

Gerry was saying he didn't think there's a way Texas would get all of Lee, Ojo, and Turntine, but they need to get at least two of them to make this a great OL class.

Apparently, reports are coming out that Lee got tired of hearing about the stupid fucking weather comparisons between Hawaii, a subpar part of the Gulf Coast and the Great Lakes.

Also, Texas isn't getting both Ojo and Turntine.

Fong put in a pick for Lee to Michigan. Womp womp.

But I heard his family preferred the dirty-ass beaches of Galveston to the frigid waters of Lake Michigan, goshdarnit!

So a 2-3 player OL class?

Spent a year in Galveston playing JUCO baseball. Its actually underated and has gotten better since I was there in the early 2000's.

I disagree...Galveston used to be a cheap fun beach town....now its turning into some resort obscenity.  I'd like to dynamite that stupid pier where the flagship used to be....Who the hell goes to the coast and eats at Bubba Gumps....thats worse then eating at a red lobster on the gulf coast...Excuse me while I go scar my children by ordering "Dolphin" tonight....ain't ordering no damn "Mahi Mahi" crap.

From Roseborough, Krempin, Lee, Ojo and Turntine to maybe just one of Ojo and Turntine?  Yikes.

It’s June. Told ya.

Don't forget that Turntine is 5'10" 185 and Surly thinks Ojo sucks in shorts.

On a serious note, seems like the big must-have priorities for this cycle are QB, DL, and maybe LB, and they're OK with letting things play out a little more at the other positions.

Do they not want to play together? or is it just not feasible to pay what both want?

Honestly not sure why anyone would have believed this, for the last few years the 9.95ers always sell we are getting everybody, in fact the staff will likely have to tell some high level players no, then OVs begin and we’re lucky to get half of the haul they tried to sell us on. Regardless I’m not worried about recruiting in June.

I follow each one's Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok accounts as well as RIVALS, On 3 etc ....  and then have a Zapier action that alerts me instantly when any of them commit. I've scripted the "if/then" instruction set so that it breaks in to whatever I'm doing on all of my devices, including my flat screen TVs. The only exception to that rule is if I'm watching the Big Lebowski.  It also blasts any commits through the speakers I have throughout my house and in my car.

I don't know. The last 3 years have been pretty awesome. I'm a lot more calm this year than I was last year. I figure everything is going to work out just fine. No reason to go into conniptions in June - or bask in recruiting glory, either. I'd rather they say yes to us than yes to someone else, but it's all going to work out either way.

I know this. There's not another program fans of other teams in college football dread going against in recruiting more than Texas. Not that they can't win any of the battles, but right now we be scary.

Considering we already have an interior guy and tackle committed, going 5 for 5 out of that group, all of whom prefer to play tackle, was never happening and hell 3/5 was probably a stretch.

The 9.95ers claimed Krempin was being sold on some swiss army knife role but I am curious at our approach on the interior outside of Robertson. We look a lot of projects last year on the interior with the Coleman twins and CTJ's favorite Jagson Christian, so I thought we might devote more than just 1 spot to the interior this cycle and maybe go big game hunting.

I should have clarified that the part about not getting both Ojo and Turntine is just coming from my inner sarvanash. I haven’t heard that from anyone lately. It was a thing earlier in the cycle though.

With A&M pretty much out of it would Turntine really head across the country to Michigan or Stanford. Seems fairly realistic they can land both at this point.

At some point you need to pull the trigger on bodies. You don't want to miss in your evaluation. But it's a problem to have too few, too. I guess with the portal there's always that path, but we haven't gone that route yet. But one of the primary issues at Texas between Mackovic and Flood was not having enough bodies. We're going to be entering that territory again soon. I know I sound like I'm veering towards alarmist, but I don't feel that way. I feel like they're going to address it by December and I'm interested to see what that path looks like.

Not sure what is making you say that. The attrition under Flood has been extremely minimal. I count 13 scholarship OL heading into this year, with only Hutson and Campbell being seniors.

In the portal era that is a pretty acceptable scholarship count to be at for a position that often requires more development than others.
