McCarthy needs to have Trump come in and declare him Speaker of the House after saying that the voting was rigged.

The voting is rigged. The nominee is supposed to negotiate, give concessions, and make promises to secure enough votes to ensure victory. McCarthy is the first dumbass in 100 years to not be able to do that before his first ballot.

Here’s what could happen:

1) McCarthy fails on 6th vote with 5-7 more defections from his side voting “present” (a dangerous game) to show HFC they are about to make their best and final offer

2) Adjournment until tonight or tomorrow

3) GOP conference coalesces around Scalise withs steering committee seats for HFC etc

4) Kumbaya sung

5) Democrats gain nothing

6) McCarthy organizes congressional baseball game

1) McCarthy eventually wears the HFC down, and wins (very unlikely).

2) There is a "compromise" candidate like Scalise that both the McCarthy crowd and the HFC get behind.  Unlikely, but if such "compromise" candidate exists, his tenure will be heavy on the HFC agenda (of shit-flinging).

3) The GQP never can get their shit straight, and 6+ of them break away and vote for a moderate "compromise" candidate with the Dems.  Probably not likely.

4) stalemate, no speaker elected this Congress.  Fucking possible.

5) something completely batshit insane that nobody could have predicted.  This is a near certainty.

6)  Handful of GOP'ers in Biden districts switch teams.  Speaker Jeffries, everyone.

Yeah, it's not likely at all, but hell, would it surprise anyone at this point?

Not to defend spineless fascist sympathizing McCarthy, but he did give concessions. He did make promises. He literally made every fucking concession and promise possible, including allowing 5 lunatics to call to vote him out for speaker WHENEVER he did something they disliked. And when he did that, they still voted No, and responded with "All we want is for you to not be speaker. " That twat couldn't have made more promises and concessions if he literally put his head between his legs, gaped his own butthole, and said he was ready to take all comers. The problem is, the HFC all came and then laughed and walked off.

It is truly ironic when current-day Republicans claim they are the party of Frederick Douglass and reconstruction.

i love the whole trump narrative of "i bet you didn't know that [insert black person here] was actually a republican."  it's a sure sign that whatever fact was just spurted out was likely learned in the last 24 hours.

No, the bizarre part is that some people buy it

Exactly, the racist, homophobic, white, male Dixiecrats simply changed political parties. None of their ideology changed.

I’ll be supremely disappointed if this circus ends without someone on the house floor being called a usurper.

So what was the reason for dumping Gym for Donalds?  It's hard to keep up with this thread.

Also, assuming no "present" votes how many votes does Donalds need to deny McCarthy again?

Already up to 7 for Donalds through the C's.  Not looking good for Kevin -- ETA per C-Span I guess the number was 7.

Joking aside, his preferred name is Anthony Devolder (Middle name + Mom's maiden name).  Recent reporting has indicated that he can't stand "George" and his family didn't even call him that.

Specifically he gave them their two biggest things and they seemed to have an agreement.

Then HFC showed up yesterday morning with a longer list of demands. They never negotiated in good faith.

The HFC is everything the GOP says about The Squad.

Too extreme, won’t compromise, can’t govern, doesn’t negotiate in good faith. Absolute children masquerading as grown adults

There have to be some R’s in very very moderate districts, barely holding their seats. They should vote for Jeffries

It will be a Republican like Upton. Someone upthread said there are 18 Rs who represent districts that Biden won - those are the ones who will get things started.

Someone like Upton would not only be 500000% better than McCarthy, but he’s also friends with Biden.

Bergman and Buck went from McCarthy to not voting.

6th straight L on the way

They might vote at the end when the call the names of those who didn't vote. Their votes won't matter, but it will be interesting to see how they do vote, if they do.

Just 5. It's amazing that they keep voting, like McCarthy is going to swing 15 votes. Even if he changes the rules so a single member can call for his removal, he's not going to get 15 of them on his side.

if there are no presents, it's 5 (222 -> 217).  if that one woman (r) keeps voting present, then it's 433 total which means 217 takes it, which means he would have to lose 6.  of course if the present is an r (like it has been), then it's 5 additional besides her (222 -> 216).

For everyone that complains about the 2 party system and pines for European style parliamentary representation … this has kind of de facto turned into that shit show.  Not having a government (sometimes for months or years in Europe) until someone forms a coalition with the Boebert types to get a majority - good times!

Actually this kind of thing is on the road to what we need. Our "first past the post" system made sense in the 1700s but is completely broken today. It forces people to pick 1 of 2 parties who may not align with their beliefs because if they Cote their belief (i.e. Green Party) they'll just help elect the polar opposite that will do the opposite of what they want. Also right now reps from the republican party have to cater to the extremes or else get primaried, and if a Democratic candidate is too liberal they can't get out of the primaries. It just doesn't work.

Three of the best functioning democracies on the planet are Sweden, Norway, and Finland. All 3 have different systems but all three use a variation of a Plurality/Majority and Proportional Representation mix. There's a better system that can be adapted from these for the US but it would be good for the American people and reduce profit margins for Corporate America so it won't happen.

Kevin has spent years degrading himself in order to condition for this kind of humiliation. It's like a version of shame cross training. He's now impervious to embarrassment. I respect him for it. He now has the power to lay on his back on the house floor and light his farts while the next round of votes are tallied. That's how powerful he has become.

Yeah, he's out there looking like losing 6 times in 2 days is his fetish.
