Day is the North’s answer to Lincoln Riley.  His record is still phenomenal because he walked into probably the best situation any new head coach has ever inherited.  It’s hard not to keep that train rolling when you can recruit NFL talent all over the field and 80%+ of your schedule every year is completely overmatched teams like Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, etc.  But he doesn’t maximize what he has, his offensive “genius” sure looks less genius when he doesn’t have 1st round QBs, and they seemingly get a little more vulnerable every year even if the record hasn’t fallen off yet.

He will eventually bring them back toward mediocrity until he’s run out.  It will take a while to unwind, but it’s starting. McCord and the next QB won’t be Stroud or Fields, and they’ll keep sliding.

Everything you said is 100% accurate. The Lincoln Riley comparing is apt. The schedule, the talent (which is because of Hartline and Larry Johnson) is all that keeps their record looking pristine. They're in a battle with a Michigan team that literally has no HC at the moment. That should be a huge red flag, on top of having top 5 talent compared to top 15-20 talent.

Announcer feels 12 team playoff will water down this rivalry?

Not much of a rivalry then, is it ?

Spare us the fucking melodrama, bro.

He’s just saying that the stakes might never be this high again for this rivalry game. Because in a 12-team playoff these two are in regardless of what ultimately happens in this game. The loser of this game should be out.

and like almost every football game thats close, its now time for a prevent defense giving up 70 yards

it blows my mind how fucking often this exact scenario keeps happening in both the NFL and college.     teams constantly keep getting massive chunks of yards with zero time outs and then its 3 plays going for the TD with 20 seconds left

I’ll take the benefit of the 12 team playoff for college football over this little matchup any day.  They play this game regardless.  We as fans get fucked out of great games every season because they limit the playoffs.

Bring it the fuck on.
