Standing up against the destruction of a people is a just cause and is on the right side of history so I'm not sure why it's baffling that young women would be for that.

So why didn’t they stand up for it when Hamas was doing it to their own people?

I mean....Hamas was/is an utterly shitty government, corrupt as hell, stealing resources meant for the people, all that shit.....but I'm pretty sure they weren't blowing up thousands of Gazans every month.  Unless I missed something.

And yes, people should have been calling Hamas on the carpet for a long fucking time, based on their corrupt governance alone.

I'd be curious to see when people think conservatism veered away from small government, state's rights, individual freedoms, etc.

I would say that in my political lifetime, other than some token lip service, conservatism has never been about those things.

Well, there's that detail where the United States isn't selling weapons to Hamas.

This is what fascists do. They lie. And they do so preposterously. Orwell was a god damned prophet.

The implication that “silencing Jewish students” was a goal of the protests is a lie. There were of course counterprotests which, although smaller, were not “silenced” or otherwise harassed by those protesting against Israel.

And stating that the university upheld its values and mission statements is another absurd lie. This is the same university that, just last year, couldn’t shut the fuck up about how committed it was to free speech on campus. Self-congratulatory puffery about that supposed commitment is all over the UT website.

But maybe I’m being too narrow minded. Maybe UT truly is committed to its core values, which only last week became obedience, capricious order, and selective rights.

And maybe Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

I think people are figuring out what some have known for a while that there are some very rich and powerful people who want to fundamentally change UT Austin.  The issue of how they handled the protests is just in keeping with the tenor and tone they desire to achieve.
I’ve actually heard someone on that list say that conservatism is the only thing they admire about A&M.

What a ridiculous tweet from a reporter employed by a major newspaper.  Do better.

She knows he has them which means she knows why he collects them. Which means she’s purposely framing a tweet to smear him and all the other signers. Which makes her a cunt.

Harlan Crow is the furthest thing from a Nazi.

I submit that if Harlan Crow has supported or voted for Trump, he is a f*cking fascist …. or 100% fascist enabler, like the German industrialists who stood by and profited as the Nazis seized power in 1930s Germany.

F*ck Trammel Crow and all those rich GQP assholes in Highland Park. They know what they are supporting: fascism and theocracy.

History is clear on all this BS.

Owning great is not necessarily a signal of enlightenment. So did a lot of Nazis. They stole art and pillaged museums all across Europe. And, yes, some Nazis even liked some of the more modernist stuff.

Check out the great documentary The Rape of Europa or the fantastic film, The Train (directed by John Frankenheimer). Both are powerful treatments about art stolen by the Nazis.

According to Crow, he collects such memorabilia because he "hates communism and fascism".[46] Crow also owns original paintings by Claude Monet, Rembrandt Peale, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Winston Churchill, and Dwight D. Eisenhower.[47]

Of course Crow supports/ed Trump. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.

And, the "I hate communism and fascism" therefore I collect these things is a really fucking cute spin on this.

Hey, I'm Jared from Subway. I hate child porn so therefore I must collect all the child porn so nobody else has it ...

Well you know him apparently!  Hes a big supporter of No Labels which strongly suggests he’s not on board with Trump. But I don’t know him like you do.

He has full legal ownership and title to a Supreme Court justice whose wife actively worked to overthrow the government so Trump could return as President for Life. You are what you openly support.
He’s a traitor and should die a traitor’s death someday.

Ok. I think Horns saying “this bullshit journalism is bullshit” with respect to one of our own, and a big donor to UT, isn’t weird. I’m not defending his other political activities. I think it’s “weird” that we wouldn’t call out BS journalism when we see it, but perhaps this forum isn’t as open minded as it purports.

In my world, criticism of "bullshit journalism" would have no concern for "one of our own" and money donated, but shockingly, you feel differently.  Everything is for sale with you guys.

Come on, Rex. You know he's a ghoul. Aside from that bizarre shit, he's using the Supreme Court as his personal urinal. And no matter the ideology of anyone partaking in that garbage, that's how the hogs at the trough levels similar to that of the House get established in the judicial branch. It isn't sustainable and it's the Mexico starter kit.

I’m still trying to figure out the part of her tweet that is wrong. Is it provocative? Of course. Is it not worth noting that Crow has signed on to a pro-Israel/anti-Palestine statement AND owning Nazi/Hitler art/memorabilia? Is that not noteworthy? I’m sure all of his Jewish guests love seeing Harlan’s copy of Mein Kampf or one of Hitler’s paintings when they visit his famed library.

I don’t know that he’s pro Hitler but he’s definitely a fucking weirdo. His mom was on a passenger ship sunk by the Nazis so maybe that kicked off his obsession who knows. But the Supreme Court shit and buying citizenship in the Caribbean to avoid US taxes and who knows what else pretty much seals him as a POS in my book.

eta he could be one of those end of times nuts. You could easily be pro Hitler and pro Isreal if you believe all that means the second coming is nigh

It's some real smooth brained shit to suggest that a supporter of the No Labels Party is anti-Trump. The entire reason the No Labels Party exists is to siphon off moderate voters to aid Trump and Co.

Even for Rex, that's fucking stupid.
