The much-anticipated one-on-one showdown between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will take place in November at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, sources told ESPN's Mike Greenberg.

The event will be either Friday (Nov. 23) or Saturday (Nov. 24) of Thanksgiving weekend. The purse is still being determined, but it has been reported previously as a $10 million payout.

Woods, 42, and Mickelson, 48, are competing in this week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational that begins Thursday at Firestone. They have been rivals dating back to their days in Southern California junior golf, but their relationship has evolved over the decades. At times, it has been strained, though it has softened in recent years as both players became heavily involved in the U.S. Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup efforts. They have also played many practice rounds together this year, including one on Wednesday at Firestone.

Golf.com reported last month that the two sides were in negotiations for a "winner take all'' match. In the piece, Mickelson said, "It's a ridiculous amount of money. No matter how much money you have, this amount will take both of us out of our comfort zone.''

Both make up the U.S. Ryder Cup committee along with 2018 captain Jim Furyk; Woods is a vice captain for Furyk and in contention for one of the four at-large picks. Mickelson is 10th in the team standings, with the top eight qualifying after next week's PGA Championship. This would be Mickelson's 12th consecutive U.S. Ryder Cup team.

The Ryder Cup is Sept. 28-30, and any match that takes place between Woods and Mickelson would not occur before then.

So stupid. One combined win in the last 5 years? Real riveting. I’d rather see a DJ vs JT match.

Are you kidding me?  These guys are hall of famers.  Sure not in their prime, but both about at the same competitive stage in their relative careers.  I think it's fucking awesome.

This would have been interesting if it happened during Thanksgiving 2007.  Tiger had 13 total majors, Phil had 3.  Phil won a major in 2004, 2005, and 2006.  Tiger won 5 majors between 04-07.  So they were on their games.  And they clearly didn't like each other.  It would have been personal.

Now, they're old, don't win much (if at all), aren't ranked in the top 20 in the world, and worst of all, they like each other.  They'll be hamming it up and laughing.  11 years ago, there would have been no sunshine.

Very meh.  But I'm sure Cialis, Charles Schwab, and BMW are excited.

I only saw some of the reruns (I'm not that old) but this is reminiscent of the old Shell Wonderful World of Golf series. They had some great matches, including Snead/Hogan well past their prime at Houston Country Club. If they play well it could be great.

Phil trying to get those * off off of his majors that Tiger didn’t play in. Lumpy may have a round or two left in him. But stretch him out and he will break down. The auto-immune disease he is forced to deal with is now a much bigger factor (anchor) then it was just 2 or 3 years ago. The impact it has on ones stamina is impossible to overcome.

So this PPV golf (WTF - who does PPV for golf, even if it is Tiger), is going up against the last weekend of college football.

I'll watch Texas/Kansas, Nebraska/Iowa, Oregon/Oregon St, Choklahoma/WVU or any of the Saturday game before I'm paying to watch this.
I'd rather watch some old Shell's Wonderful World of Golf

like this (or an old match of  Phil vs Ernie, Monte, Couples, Sergio or Toms  )

According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, there will not be any tickets made available to the public for the $9 million match between the two legends held Nov. 23 at Shadow Creek. The event will be broadcast via pay-per-view, and the report adds that only a "small gathering of sponsors and VIPs" will have access to the exclusive course, which is owned by MGM Resorts International.

so stinking lame.

i think i have watched most of these from back in the day. fucking awesome. it is amazing to see how bad ass ball strikers these guys were and how the putting was so different back then. the putting strokes look painful.

in the video the anouncer is talking about how much lightning they saw in the match. today they would have cleared the course immediately.

sam hitting 6 iron from 165 just seems quaint..

i got to watch sam snead with ben c.  as his partner against tommy bolt and tom k.  in a 6 hole match at barton creek in about 93. legends of golf pre tourney deal or something. sam was old as shit but he could still flat move it. sam s. was putting side saddle... i cant remember who won.

csb

i aint pay per viewing this deal.. nope.
