FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)

Compiled thoughts:

1) There's an argument Oregon, Texas, and Ohio State have punched their tickets already.

2) The way it stands now, it's gonna be difficult to let a 3-loss team in.

3) The final two weeks of the B12 were/are drama-filled.  Arizona and Iowa State now control their own destiny after needing quite a bit of chaos this time last week.

Here's how my model projects the CFP and CCG odds:

Texas, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Ohio State have punched their tickets 100% at this point.

Florida getting votes, LSU getting votes, Missouri being ranked, Alabama and Ole Miss in the top 15, this fucking conference is just living off of brand goodwill. None of those are good teams. Missouri is a bad team. Florida and LSU are bad teams. It’s pathetic.

florida is on the way up - they will be a solid bowl selection

For the non-playoff teams, Florida, South Carolina and Kansas are three teams I would not want to see in a bowl game. (Assuming Kansas can beat Baylor and get to one)

Said it before, but I'd like to see a second ACC team before a fourth Big 10 team, and maybe even a fourth SEC team. I would like Clemson/Scar to be for a spot in the playoffs. As much as I hate Scar, that's a scrappy team that I don't think anyone would want to play in the playoffs. If they beat Clemson and the SEC gets four teams in, it should be them over Bama, Ole Miss and the other scrubs that keep getting the benefit of the rankings

Oh I’m pretty sure a 2 loss Miami or Clemson gets in over a 4th SEC team for sure. Especially since there’s not a 4th SEC team with less than 3 losses

Four Big 10 teams are getting in unless Indiana loses next week. SEC is going to push Bama as the 4th team, but I think Clemson has a great shot with a win over South Carolina. They have helmet power and a good SOS with a loss to Georgia.

We are seeing the beta testing of an idea, 12 team playoff. I doubt anyone knew or foresaw the permutations and combinations that would occur.  To say nothing about the effects of the internecine warfare in the SEC. Ole Miss, God love them, is now DOA but better than the first or second Big 12 or ACC team.

Don't be that guy.

Fuck this stupid ass redneck conference.

This guy gets it.

I am that guy. If you want to give me extra perks. I am going to take it. CDC knows where I am coming from.

There's a good shot the winner of Clemson-South Carolina gets in with Bama first team out.

If the committee puts bama at 13, they’ll need some upsets to happen ahead of them or for committee to just reverse itself a week later and move them up a couple spots.

Carolina can do them a solid by beating Clemson, but they’d need something else because the b12 champ that will be behind them will get a spot. And I don’t think Tenn losing to vandy would do it because they’d have both lost to vandy and have 3 losses and so head to head.

Bama has the h2h over SCAR is the problem.

But I think SCAR would be more deserving. They're playing some of the best ball in the SEC since that close Bama loss.

They almost lost at home to Mizzou last week.  All these teams are up and down.  I generally don't buy arguments that teams are hot/improved at the end of the year and should be ranked higher.  The whole season counts.

Damn I know the record sucks but beating two top 20 teams in a row and no ranking for my gata?

Floridas losses are all against top 15 teams besides aggy.

damn aggy going to fall out of the ranking after we beat them and we’re STILL going to be called overrated for playing all weaker SEC teams lol

Better than losing by 3 TDs in Norman.

Agree the whole season counts but I think how a team is currently playing should also be a factor.

Yep

if people want to argue the big 10 is the best conference they can go fuck themselves.

Indiana would have 5 losses in the sec, big 10 is a joke.

it’s cool though we will see a bunch of sec teams go play away games up north and fuck these overrated retards up.

Georgia to Pedo state

Tennessee to Indiana

going to end up an all SEC championship game

Notre Dames SOS is very weak. Their best wins are A&M and Army, neither of which are playoff teams. Army has played zero good teams. If ND lost a conference championship game in 2 weeks, they could be left out, but alas they don't have the burden of a CCG and instead benefit from a cupcake schedule every year.

I am not advocating chanting S-E-C, but it’s just stupid to continue the fight against the SEC bias now. That is so last year

Is there not a thread on here about just being excited to have guaranteed a spot in the playoffs? I know goals are higher but dang, we got in.

Sir we will not rest until all of college football and the committee bows to our gloriousness and gives us 3 byes to the championship game as fair compensation for our complete dominance of the SECSECSEC.

Does head to head matter as much when you are looking at 3 loss teams? Honest question. If you are analyzing two 1 loss teams, like last year, it makes perfect sense. But I would argue that 3 loss teams have much more variation in performance and a close loss in a H2H would be almost irrelevant to determining the better team.

I completely agree. You will get no argument for me. Notre Dame is the most overrated team in CFB. At least overrated SEC teams win when they get to the playoff. Notre Dame just gets their breaks beaten off and then everyone forgets two days later and we are subjected to the same bullshit 1 year later.

I guess. They made the playoffs twice. Sure they got destroyed by Clemson in 2018, but Clemson also destroyed Alabama. And sure they got destroyed by Alabama in 2020, but Alabama also destroyed Ohio State.

We'll see if this pattern continues but 2018 Clemson and 2020 Alabama were teams that just mauled everybody. I don't think we can expect them to face teams like that every single time in a 12 team playoff.

Dont forget that time we were subjected to an absolute fucking bloodbath of a national title game between Bama and the Notre Dame Catfish Kings (the fighting Manti Te'os).

It shouldn't - but I bet it will be a discussion point.
Especially when the team with the h2h W is Bama.

Yep, if it was the other way around they would be ignoring it and talking about how different the teams are since that game.

Ah yeah. That was pretty bad.

Ok that is actually a pretty good example of what you are talking about because I definitely memory holed that one until you brought it up. That and the Bama vs LSU title game were unbelievably boring.

I mean all the recent ND faceplants are under Brian Kelly. His record in big games in the postseason is abysmal. Even Bilbo Aggins can laugh

Faceplants have been a staple of the Freeman era as well

Should go back to a BCS style but updated algorithm that takes into account strength of schedule.

The Big 10 and SEC champion get auto bid. The best ranked next 2 conference champions get the final 2 auto bids.

Then go down the line starting at 1 to fill in the rest.

That's the way it should be, but will never happen because CFB doesn't want to give away it's power to make matchups for TV ratings.

Yeah, Northern Illinois was I think the third time Freeman has lost at home as a 20+ point favorite, right? NIU this year then Marshall and one other in previous years I thought.

Maybe the loss against a 3-9 Stanford?

Kansas just beat a top 25 ranked team, 3 weeks in a row.

Which proves what?

Anyone?

Spoiler

That rankings don't mean shit, especially in a weak ass after conference

Or their OC finally figured out how to call a good game and their QB is healthy once again.

Rankings are a beauty pageant based on past performance not a predictive measurement, that would be a power rating like ESPN’s FPI

While I do think Bama would beat all 3 of those teams. Here is the problem. Bama has 3 fucking losses. Those teams have 1. The results on the field have to matter.
