No- I filter between “idiot”, logical/normie type and expert/insider.
I just don’t remember for example if Helo or BO&W for example is in the idiot file. It’s ultimately a distinction without a difference.
These people on IT that are running with this clearly aren’t in the idiot category, but not all the way to insider/expert.

I think I've found the flaw in your reasoning. Also, the fact that you can't remember which posters are idiots over here is another red flag.

Did they also make it where you can’t schedule FCS or does this new 9 game schedule wipe that game out?

There hasn't been any mention of that. I'm sure the SEC schools that fight for bowl eligibility every year will claim they need to keep those pay games to help fund FCS football or whatever excuse they can come up with.

My guess is schools like Ole Miss, Tennessee, Missouri, the ones who regularly put together crap non-conference schedules, will be scheduling FCS, a MAC school and Syracuse/Rutgers/Maryland to try to say they are fulfilling the requirements the SEC put in place. We will see how long that lasts.

No I know Helo and BO&W are both idiots, but if I see a comment that’s dumb from one of them I don’t imprint in my memory which idiot said it, just that it was an idiot

wasn’t clear before, thanks.

By the way when we go to 16 teams in the playoffs for Texas 3 losses will become the new two (auto in) and 4 losses will get us there plenty of times.

take potential 2026 schedule if there are 16 playoff teams and this hypothetical results:

wins: scrub, scrub, @Arkansas, @aggy, OU, SCar, Auburn, Bama

losses- Ohio State, @ole Miss, @TN, LSU.

That’s a playoff team 7 out of 10 years.

I was glad to see that announcement. I hope they are faithful to it.  Because there is still some old school thinking with poll voters about not putting a 3 loss team above a 2 loss team.

It is obvious they are making these tweaks and changes to try to nudge the committee into getting rid of the loss column bias, but I'll still need to see it happen to fully believe it.

Another advantage of these teams that schedule nobodies in non-con is that it allows Indiana to spend entire offseasons/early season weeks prepping for their 1-2 big conference games, while another school is having to spend time and effort on their early season marquee matchup. We saw it in 2023 when OU had the Georgia game cancelled, so they played 5 nobodies before Texas, while Texas had Alabama week 2. We didn't do ourselves any favors in that game, but it was also an advantage for OU that they didn't have to put anything on film they didn't want to in the first 5 weeks.

Bobby Burton stuff:

What is the Texas football team up to today and tomorrow?

Texas coaches are taking the team through an entire mock game weekend experience.

The team will board a bus and head to a hotel today, they'll have team dinners, and team meetings tonight, just as if the Horns were in Columbus a week from now. The players will even room with the same guys who they will be rooming with next weekend. Then they'll wake up, get breakfast, have more meetings at the hotel and head to DKR to get ready for a mock game situation.

With so many new faces this year, the coaches do these sorts of things to give everyone familiarity with what to expect.

**

Trevor Goosby was back at practice this week, but his hand is taped up. He's best described as day-to-day at this point.

Interestingly, because it's a non-conference game, Texas and Ohio State do not have to submit injury reports, as they would if it were an SEC game for the Horns.

While Sark has historically been fairly forthcoming with injury reports, it'll be interesting to see how he handles this upcoming week.

**

We were asked last night when Sark would release the team's depth chart. I didn't have the answer immediately. So I did some digging.

As CJ commented, Sark has revealed his two deep at several different times during his tenure in Austin.

From early in the week of the game - on Tuesday or Wednesday - to later in the week, including literally the day of the game when the sports information department provided media with a depth chart as they entered the press box for the game.

So we may - or may not - see a depth chart next week.

**

I continue to hear that Texas wants "experience" on the OL when they head to Columbus. We've heard of some maneuverings that would probably surprise some folks.

It all seems to hinge, however, on Goosby's health.

**

Thanks again to the folks at the Dallas Texas Exes for hosting last night's party. And to the guys at 3rd & Longhorn , too. They're all first class and such a good, positive representation of the University.

And it was nice meeting everyone, or seeing folks again. It just felt like a good ol' get together of a lot of like-minded Texas fans.

Just spitballing here, maybe it's because you don't know specifically what's wrong with the guy, and the nature of the injury.

That's just classic Big 12 behavior. Snyder built KSU on that strategy and Gundy was an early adopter as well. Matt Campbell would have loved to schedule 3 cupcakes and spent all his time prepping for us and OU, but he was stuck with El Assico early every season.

Are you talking on the SEC network?

Does where the game was broadcast matter? If it were better games it would be on a bigger network, and if it weren't people would go out of their way to find where the SEC network was showing the game. We do it all the time personally for games we want to watch. We find a way. If people aren't finding ways to watch those games, it means they're dogshit and no one cares.

I'm talking shit like SECN+. There's apparently data that's been reviewed that shows that most SEC team fans (and ACC and Big 12 for ESPN+) don't even click in to watch their teams play FCS. It's a more than 5x shift up if it's even just a shitty G5 and more than a magnitude if it's a conference head-to-head, but those are really rare. The idea that fans will just watch a team no matter who they play is being debunked in real time. That's a problem for advertisers and that makes it a problem for the platform and they're making that a problem for the conference. No one wants to watch Mercer or Southeastern play their teams, including Bama or LSU fans.

I mean, yeah. SEC Network or one of the other minor networks will naturally have fewer viewers.

same goes for actually going to the games. Trying to find a reason to use my tickets for any of SJSU, UTEP, or Sam Houston St. If I don't go, I'll watch intermittently. Very doubtful that I'll carve out 4 hours to grind through any of those games in their entirety on TV.

Those are G5s, not FCS, so you're talking about a different, semi-related point.

A former player offers thoughts on the 2025 Texas Longhorns (IT)

  Hide contents

His thoughts on the current team:

– When Neto Umeozulu gets a hold of you you’re not going anywhere. “I was strong but had no chance when he grabbed on. Huge hands.” He said Neto’s going to get a couple of penalties after the whistle this year. That’s just how he’s wired. He really likes DJ Campbell’s aggression too.

– He’s heard similar good things regarding Cole Hutson and Connor Robertson to what IT has shared.

– He’s heard really good things about Brandon Baker, with one person telling him that Baker will be good this year. In general, he had a lot of good things to say about Kyle Flood.

– One of Sark’s super powers is getting the team focused internally. He essentially said everyone focuses on the “style” aspects of Texas and Austin but the “substance” is “really we just wanted to play football and hang out together.”

– Loves Jelani McDonald. He calls him a complete player and said he would have been a ridiculous linebacker had his body gone that direction. The staff originally viewed him as another Overshown.

– Absolutely loved Jahdae Barron “just a natural football player” and a “great person, you wonder, is he really like this? He is really like that.” However, he thinks the pass rush is the great equalizer for the defense this year. He loved the addition of LaAllan Clark for the Edge room.

– He’s a big fan of Tre Wisner and thinks Wisner will be the guy who gets 1,000 yards. Tre does everything right and “having a 1,000 yard runner is a source of pride for Sark.” I quipped luckily Sark has 16 games to keep the streak alive while still distributing the ball to deserving players.

– I mentioned how I felt very strongly Sark was going to succeed after going 5-7 when I heard about the player led offseason draft. If you don’t recall, there were 10 teams of 10, with a player captain and sub-captain drafting their team. This was all designed to cultivate leadership and accountability. At the time I joked how Bijan “got it” because he drafted a bunch of walk-ons—guys who normally do things the right way. This former player said, “it was a great way to bring democracy to the team and have players take control.” It’s become public since but he also mentioned T’Vondre Sweat getting drafted last was the wakeup call he needed.

– He believes Arch really is That Guy. He concurred with my characterization of him being a man of the people when it comes to leadership. Everyone’s equal. He raved about Arch’s athleticism.

– He’s obviously a bit biased but he thinks the pieces are in place for Texas to dominate this year.

That all sounds nice, but also a little too optimistic. The one thing that stands out to me are the comments about Wisner. Sark better be a helluva lot more concerned about winning football games than having a 1000 yard rusher. Provided the RB's stay healthy, there will be 2-3 more guys getting carries this year that had 0 carries last year. One of those guys may even prove to be better than Wisner.

Sounds like all of this is going to force the next wave of conference realignment / consolidation to happen much sooner now.

No AD in Big 12 or ACC will want their school to be getting squeezed on limited OOC picks with Big 10 / SEC or having their school playing in a weak conference that limits them mathematically to get to the playoffs based on this new model.

More football is better than less football. We would be in the 16 most deserving teams. We’d have a chip and a chair.

Format needs tweaking.  First two rounds should be home games for higher seed.  And no auto high seeds for conference winners.  Seed properly using power rankings.

TV used to know that bad matchups produce bad numbers. That’s why they didn’t televise them all, and there was a little market in PPV for production outfits to try and make some cash via that model.  Which I assume mostly bars and restaurants were the customer.

I watch all intriguing non conference games, all the conference games as well if there's not other conflicts. I go to about 4 out of the 6 home games any given year. During road games I've definitely had to follow on the phone at some kids sporting events. I always record the game too. Almost never watch what I missed though. It's hard for me to do if I already know what happened.

There's only so much time in a weekend. I'll likely have to miss how well the 3rd teamers do against Sam Houston St. The week after that I'll wait to be fed the reports here like a baby bird.

Do people not watch the other games in a given day? I mean, I get it if you have the dreaded fall wedding or kids sports events or whatever, but blocking out a nice Saturday to just watch all the games is so much fun. If we're blowing out SHSU in the third, I'll just drop in on the other games during the commercials or mostly switch over if a good game is close.

Yeah maybe. Just depends on what I have going on. Kids sporting events can be all day tournaments as they've gotten older. Different seasons in life, different priorities.

The way Bobby continues to be all cryptic towards the Goosby injury, I’m just going to assume he’s not playing. I think Chatman is more than capable of holding down that spot. I’m not saying he’ll be lockdown, but he wont get ran through. Also he may be just as good as Goosby in the run game.

Goddamnit. You've introduced (into the surly records) two @Wulaw Horn visuals recently:

1. him sticking his finger into a giant bowl of queso, mixing in salsa, and wiggling it around; and

2. him rubbing his vagina (presumably with his fingers, again).

I've seen Wulaw Horn in person before (and his fingers); now my mind's eye can't unsee this unholy merging of him, his fingers, his unkept vagina, and some sort of red, chunky plasma cheese.
