When ever I hear the bleeding vaginas bitch about the propaganda of pbs all I can think of is that cock sucking libtard Tom Silva on this old house pushing transgender rain gutters and that raging Marxist Julia on Americas test kitchen scolding white Americans for appropriating apple pies. Those assholes on my tv deserve to join Roget Cook rotting in hell.

If you think Bill Buckley would consider Donald Trump “right”, you are dumber than I thought. And I already thought you’re really fucking stupid.

Thanks for playing, buddy.  I am not going to CR this thread anymore.  There are reasons that all people don't need to finance CBP and NPR.

Whose propaganda?  And which shows are propaganda?

Funny, it's accused of being a liberal propaganda machine despite the fact that we've had an awful lot of conservative administrations over its existence.

Could it be that, like education, media produced by intelligent people tends a bit liberal?

There's really only one party putting out propaganda right now.

I listen to NPR a LOT and, although many of the reporters/commentators very subtly cock an eyebrow at a lot of Trump's shit, there's very little propaganda.

Weird this got no reply.

I’ll be brief. As a society we should be funding things like CPB and NPR. Societies that are functional and looking out for the greater good of the citizenry should want this. The cost is low, but the value provided to Americans more than pays for itself. That we are no longer funding this says a lot about the selfishness of the average modern American.

The money doesn't exist. It's being printed. You could cut literally any spending and I would be in favor of it. But spending $500 million for upper middle class entertainment is particulary egregious. We are going to have to learn to live without luxuries. And by luxuries, I mean Social Security and most forms of discretionary spending.

It's a mild inconvenience for you if eggs go up to $6. It's existential if you make $15 per hour.

Read. You might learn something.

PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) viewers are diverse, encompassing a broad range of ages, incomes, and educational backgrounds. While PBS traditionally appeals to older, more educated, and higher-income demographics, it also reaches a significant number of children and low-income households. Streaming content expands PBS's reach to younger audiences, particularly those aged 18-54.

Key Demographics:

Education:

PBS viewers are more likely to be highly educated, with a higher percentage holding advanced degrees.

Income:

PBS viewers tend to be in higher income brackets, but the network also reaches a substantial number of low-income households, especially through children's programming.

Race/Ethnicity:

PBS stations reach significant numbers of Hispanic, Black, and Asian viewers.

Location:

A notable portion of PBS's audience resides in rural communities.

Children's Programming:

PBS reaches more children and children from low-income homes than any other children's TV network.

Streaming Audience:

A large portion of PBS's streaming audience is comprised of adults aged 18-54.

Parental Viewership:

PBS KIDS is widely watched by parents, with 85% watching with their children.

PBS Passport Members:

Many PBS Passport members, who donate to support the network, are older adults who may not be actively utilizing the streaming platform.

Age:

PBS's traditional broadcast audience skews older, with a significant portion over 50, but its streaming platforms attract younger viewers aged 18-54.

Diverse Reach:

PBS's diverse audience is reflected in its content, which includes programming that appeals to various ethnic backgrounds, including people of color.

Studies have shown that PBS stations, particularly local stations, reach a broad range of demographics, including those often overlooked by traditional media ratings.

PBS's commitment to diverse programming is evident in its efforts to represent people of color and other underrepresented groups in its content.

Well, it doesn't precisely treat it as normal, but it leaves a whole hell of a lot of shit just hanging.  For the audience to figure out.

Back up your claims.

That "public" broadcasting has been captured by one end of the political spectrum? This is simple quoting of Pew polls. Do you need the links?

You have made this claim unsupported and against most recent study, https://academic.oup.com/joc/advance-article-abstract/doi/10.1093/joc/jqaf009/8123341?redirectedFrom=fulltext&login=false.

54.5% of self-declared “extreme conservatives” and 58.5% of self-declared “extreme liberals” in our survey sample consider PBS a major source of news and information

But, a battle of sources isn't really interesting to me. If public broadcasting is captured by the left, what resources available today are neutral?

never gets tiring posting this quote because it so aptly describes just so many people

Major Major's father was a sober God-fearing man whose idea of a good joke was to lie about his age. He was a long-limbed farmer, a God-fearing, freedom-loving, law-abiding rugged individualist who held that federal aid to anyone but farmers was creeping socialism.

LMAO at a "libertarian" voting for Donald Trump. Brilliant.

Although, given that libertarians are mostly just conservatives who want to fuck kids, I guess the support makes some sense.

A good a time as ever to share this video again. I honestly hope this doesn’t hinder things for PBS. My kids enjoy their shows and the programs there are far more than instructional than on normal television

I'm sort of philosophically libertarian to an extent, but I recognize that libertarianism doesn't have very many practical applications in today's world unless we can somehow unwind untold government intervention. And even if we did manage to do that, there is still a need for government. IMO, much of what we see on the "conservative" or "liberal" side of politics involves the denial of certain human rights in order to shape society into whatever whichever group thinks it should look like instead of actually protecting all of human rights.

That said, my kids have watched plenty of PBS kids shows. I have watched the occasional shows intended for adults. I'm not sure I'm seeing any bias. I mean, there is undoubtedly some sort of bias in any given show because the creators have biases, but I can't really recall anything that blatant.

This is unfortunately so true. NPR seems to have as much fear of being labeled biased as anyone in media. If Ana had ever listened to 5 minutes of NPR, he'd realize he's a minor league both-sideser compared to them. On the other hand, public broadcasting stands out as different and better than most because it's less concerned with profit and with doing the propaganda work of mega billionaire owners.

This is all looking backwards twice. Media has moved on. Zero kids listen to radio or OTA TV. Come on man.

Yeah it's looking backward.

Because PBS CREATED that shit.  Something that commercial media did not.  So now you can get it on YT, bfd.  Someone has to create that stuff in the first place.

Online media is toxic as hell.  OTA is all about ad revenue.  PBS is all about content.

Much of these arguments seem to be focused on how you can still see the classics like Mr Rogers, Sesame Street, etc online or on cable services. While true, you aren’t going to get as much new quality content going forward. Most if not all npr and pbs shows that become nationwide hits start with a tiny budget on a local station and are able to grow into what they become. That is where CPB money was focused.

I can’t imagine how many of these shows try and fail for every one that becomes a nationwide program (and many of those succeed and are cherished at the local level). All that is gone now. Just like with the brain drain that is coming due to the harassment of university faculty and the bullshit going on with visas; these true damage of these cuts won’t be felt for a decade.

Also, it is not true that “zero” kids (and adults) have access to these shows without OTA public media. It’s like last mile mail and package delivery. It is extremely difficult and the government is the most efficient of all the inefficient ways to accomplish it. Hell I get shit all the time from Amazon that starts out as an Amazon or UPS / FedEx on the app and winds up coming by USPS and I live smack in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the country
