Horns drop a spot to 8th in the AP, but just a point ahead of Illinois, and only ten points more than Aggy. OU not far behind at 11, either.

Gift for Texas to still be in Top 10.  Horns need to find an offense quick!!!

Nice to see Gtech ranked... Clemson no longer in the Top25 with so much talent gotta fire up the Dabo critics.

My thread on the subject wasn’t taken seriously, probably due to my TTU fandom but also because that other thread came off as being pro OU so I guess I should have known better.

I won’t bump that thread, however, “objectivity” was also used and that really was the point I was trying to make.

So, this week we have 0-2 ND still ranked (2 top25 losses)

2-1 USF unranked (2 wins vs top25 and 1 loss vs top25)

The message:

South Florida you will NEVER be invited to the party

ND you are ALWAYS welcome

I know that CFB is just a TeeVee show that needs eyeballs and ratings but at what point do the the eyeballs conclude that they no longer give a crap?

You saw on that thread what the "completely objective" computer rankings coming up with based solely on current season W/L.  It's stupid and it doesn't work.

I'm trying to understand a few things here:

1) You think people are going to look at AP voted rankings and then stop watching the game on tv? Is this a serious concern or position? Do you know how long the rankings have been idiotic? Longer than there have been tvs in most households. This goes back to the beginning, and yet viewership and interest only goes stronger.

2) You think the "2 wins vs top 25 opponents" statement is going to continue to carry water? Neither of those teams are still in the top 25. Hell, I'm not sure either Florida or Boise are even getting many votes at all. Texas went through the same shit last year. Opened the season with 4 ranked teams on the schedule and beat all but one of them. By the end of the year, many of those teams were no longer ranked and idiots were ridiculing Texas, a program that will play anyone, anywhere, any time, for having a weak schedule. They got ZERO credit for those teams being ranked earlier in the year (Michigan, OU, ATM).

I did see that. My issue I guess becomes the meaning of “objective”. Why is it so difficult?

TTU being #1 is not objective.
Neither is ND inclusion’s over USF’s

Do we all agree with those 2 statements? It’s not really rocket surgery is it? Why do the actual voters make it seem so difficult?

Sidenote: My honest belief is that South Florida’s schedule isn’t strong enough for them to maintain a high rank all season. But to deny them early when they actually have the skins on the wall to take advantage of that brief window in time to celebrate all the pomp and circumstance that comes with being ranked is an example of where this great sport misses the boat. IMO

Yes it’s been idiotic forever. We are being told that the CFP has corrected it. I maintain that it has not.

I am losing interest (ha, I’m posting on another schools message board) so I assume others are as well. Perhaps new consumers are outpacing us old timers and the ratings won’t falter. I know that I personally am not enjoying CFB like I used.

According to FPI (which isn't great this early in the season, but just go with it for now) ND would be a 13 point favorite over USF on a neutral field.  It doesn't sound crazy to me that ND is receiving more votes.

It's polls. The drop below A&M is a delay from the previous week where they beat Notre Dame and we looked like shit against UTEP.

The OU jump is because Auburn was ranked.

Fine, but that Auburn (now unranked) win was sketchy.

Not stressed about it. I was just genuinely surprised to see Texas drop, and then seeing who jumped the Horns prompted a reaction.

Totally agree.  And Aggy had a bye week.

we have a loss and have not defeated anyone with a pulse yet and struggled a bit with 2 teams we should whip.  aggy beat ND at ND and OU has defeated Mich/Aub.

the traditional polls have always lacked nuance. generally # of losses rules all unless you are not a helmet-ish type school. see Ole Miss/Indiana. and of course where you started means your order is generally secured until you lose.

I get it but it gets silly sometimes. Anyone that thinks there are 9 teams better than Texas is fucking high. There certainly aren't 9 teams that would be favored at a neutral site. Frankly I'm not sure anyone but tOSU and Georgia would be.

This defense is absolutely disgusting. They may be better than last season. They held tOSU to 203 yards - in Columbus.

I am all for it. Sark's job just got easier the next 2 weeks.

"Hmmm. You guys see this? They have OU and A&M above us? Huh."

well it has always been that way.  no one who votes in these polls says "well Texas D could likely win the game against aggy".  they look at helmets, where you started, win/loss and who you've played, they might go down to score margin in some cases but that is all they do.

Right now, aggy and sooner would be.

Lol what.

All the undefeated right behind us would be favored, plus everyone in front of us

We are the highest rated 1 loss, that’s fine

If people were putting money on the games? No - they wouldn't be.

It isn't a perfect predictor - especially this early in the season- but Sagarin has 2 teams that would give a field goal to Texas.
