2025 game Week 1, #1 Texas @ #3 Ohio State - What the Fuck is a Buckeye?

That and which ever offense "calms down" first. In every first game the D starts out much more "game ready" than offenses. Typically, that evens out some time around the mid to end if the first, start of the second. Largely, it is related to QB play but WRs drop passes and RBs miss lanes too.

End of 1st

OSU - 7

Texas - 0

Half-time

Texas 14

OSU - 7

For a final of

Texas 28 - OSU 21

For obvious reasons I think the Texas offense gets more settled ealier but I suspect home field advantage helps propel OSU into the end zone first. I think momentum swings OSU early then by second quarter leans heavy Texas.

I'm not making a call on the 3rd. Just not.

I'd rather not be playing from behind by the half.  Sark's main strength is preparing an excellent opening script when he has time.

I saw this first hand. tosu fans talking shit to people on dirty 6th. They forgot where they were as I saw one buckeye fan got his ass knocked out talking shit to the wrong person.

I also remember seeing Eddie George at Cuba Libre that Friday night before the game. Dude was a lot taller than I realized. /csb

I want us to get out of there with a win and no injuries, especially none to key players.

Ever since Colt McCoy, we always seem to be short an important piece or two.

Last year, it was Bond not being at 100% and while I was never high on Ewers to being with, he regressed after the oblique injury.

I just want us to play best-on-best all year.  If we can't win a NC doing that, then we don't deserve it anyway.

Cover 3 guys. They mentioned that if Ryan Day is heavily involved in the play calling they might learn OSU In coaching, but gave the nod to Texas there because of Texas's continuity.

And then went ahead and picked OSU 2-1.

He's talking about missing blitz pickups.

He's also been reported as instigating some fights by not stopping at the whistle which sounds cool until we pick up a personal foul at an important time.

Well, I agree and so hopefully my prediction of Texas being up 14-7 at half is correct. I realize the way I typed it isn't super clear but.. I think Texas scores 2 TDs in the first half.

They’re a Big 10 lean now with CBS in the conference fold, so no surprises there. I generally like their non-Kanell takes.

Bud Elliott is the only one who you can tell knows his stuff and does research every week. His overall knowledge of college football and specific players is impressive.

Kanell doesn’t even look like he wants to be there half the time. And his betting picks usually suck.

DK doesn’t even know about his own school when challenged on position groups. He has it on cruise control on his cover 3 and SXM morning show. No fucks given by him but I like his trolling.

If we are only up 14-7 we are fucked because 3rd qtr of doom curse. We need 24-7 half time to win 27-21

I'm hoping the X-Factor in turning around our 2nd half woes this season is our new QB1, and I feel pretty confident we will be a much improved 2nd half team this season.

I said I wouldn't comment on the 3rd quarter in my original post. There are reasons why, and your point is one of them.

The other reason is I predict the 3rd quarter issue are...

Texas wins 28-21. Things are.. different.

@perfectchaos007

Ahem.. different. Trying to avoid certain discussions from derailing the thread.

Would we know what we know w/r/t the OL if Sark didn't want it known / didn't care if it was known?

It’ll be interesting to see the progress of guys on the OL in mid October compared to Saturday. Especially dudes like Baker who are getting their first real action in college. I also think the 3 games after Ohio State will be important for ironing out the run game since we like to run so many different concepts.

It’s Surly so I’m sure we will crown them the greatest ever or complete busts by Saturday afternoon, but guys are allowed to get better. I’m reminded of the 2023 opener when they looked like total garbage against Rice then were stonewalling Dallas Turner and Will Anderson the following week and didn’t have many problems the rest of the season.

IF we were still struggling with finding a starting 5, half our media would be blasting it.  Ketch and Kunt wouldn't be quiet about it.

4 different categories for offense and one for defense. Zero for special teams.

Seems kinda stupid.

Probably happened because in the preshow meeting they went down defensive position groups and picked Texas in all of them. They did mention Fornelli was going to let them have it for not breaking defense down by position.

I think rotating bodies is less about the optimal 5, but more about  evaluating the # 6-8 guys to see who can contribute day 1. I’m excited to see how we get along in the run game this season

Some freshman class talk on Bucknuts, plus some hilarity where they attempt to claim that they're doing things above board, but Texas, Notre Dame, and Michigan are all behaving unfairly with NIL and recruiting. I actually think these people are stupid enough and naive enough to believe that they're actually clean when they've been cheating since the day Urban Meyer showed up on campus. Dumb motherfuckers, all of them.

** As advertised ... The Buckeyes’ 2025 recruiting class was ranked as the No. 4 class in the country in the final 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings.

And according to one of our team sources who has seen the 2025 signees in action during the Buckeyes’ fall camp, this class is the real deal.

“This freshman class is going to make a big splash," the source began.  “Devin Sanchez, Faheem Delane, Bo Jackson, Riley Pettijohn, maybe Zion Grady, I think you’ll see those guys this season.  And there are some other guys that are going to make a big splash eventually, but maybe not this season because their room is so strong right now.  This class is really, really good.”

    Only 96 hours to go!

** ‘Contradiction Hall of Fame’ … One of our sources must have been bored yesterday because he tuned into the Bucknuts Morning 5 .. and even claims he listened to the entire show. No, seriously.

“I listened to your podcast yesterday and I agree with you and Dan mostly on the NIL stuff and not getting into bidding wars for high school recruits,” the source said. “Spending money on retaining your best players and paying for proven good players via the portal is a wise course of action. There is no disputing that in my opinion.

“However, why can’t we do both? Not to the degree that some programs are doing, but more along the lines of what Oregon and Texas are doing. Dare I say, even Michigan. It’s like we’re trying to play by the rules when no one else is. If the Michigan cheating scandal didn’t prove the NCAA has no power to do anything of import, nothing will. These guys literally said in their report that what Michigan did deserved a postseason ban. Then that same report declined to issue a postseason ban. Put that one in the Contradiction Hall of Fame. First ballot. Unanimous.

“Anyway, if it’s our stance that we’re not going to get into bidding wars for recruits, period, no matter what the NCAA is doing? I’m OK with that. But if we kind of have one foot in and one foot out because we’re fearful of the NCAA punishing us down the line, that would be malpractice. First of all, are they going to punish everyone? Because everyone seems to be doing it. Secondly, and most important, they have proven they have no power with the inexplicable Michigan decision like I said.”

The thing about Matt P is that Belicheck led a lot of the defensive build out and scheme. These guys acting like Patricia is some kind of savant are funny. He failed everywhere else he has been once he couldn’t leverage Belicheck and also Brady at QB helping take pressure off the Pats defense.

This is like giving Kyle Flood credit for Texas’ offensive success in terms of scheme/playcalling

As we get ready for the game on Saturday, I have a couple of team notes.

Trevor Goosby returned to almost full practice yesterday after taking last week off from any contact. Goosby had a medical procedure early last week and is progressing well.

I’m told that if it’s left up to Goosby, he’s going to play Saturday. But such things are decided by coaches and trainers, not the athletes.

As we’ve been reporting since late last week, we believe he’s going to play Saturday. But there remain no guarantees in that regard.

Hopefully, Goosby gets the go ahead.

**

The rotation along the defensive interior is still a work in progress.

What the rotation may be for Ohio State, may not be what it is in Florida in five weeks.

I know that resembles a little word salad but here’s the deal.

I’m told Texas needs to get a real sense of how these guys are going to play together and who fits best with one another as they come up against different types of offensive lines.

Frankly, Texas has a lot of new moving parts on the interior. Levon Johnson’s improved health has been encouraging and providing another option, too.

One of the things to consider about portal transfers, you don’t really have a lot of institutional knowledge built up about how a player (or players) are going to react until they are actually put into the fire.

If I had to guess any defensive spot that is subject to change in the coming weeks and months, it’s that one.

But let’s hope in the interim they have an answer for the Buckeye’s run game Saturday.

**

As of now, expect Anthony Hill to wear the communication helmet on defense. He has worked with it the most during fall camp.

Michael Taaffe is also an option.

**

If you’re going to be in Columbus for the game, please join us at Gresso’s in German Village on Friday afternoon from about 4-7pm. They will have beer specials for folks and it should be a great meeting place for Longhorns.

If you are in Austin this weekend and want to join our friends at Surly Horns and Burnt Ends, they are hosting a giant watch party, too.

Here are the details:

https://tailgate.surlyhorns.com/event/1/what-the-fk-is-a-buckeye

**

Sark has a short, weekly SEC conference call today at 12:30. It is available to media. If he says anything of note, we will pass it on ASAP.

Again, they are huffing the shit out of the copium regarding the OL disparities.  And acting like their DL/LBs are even in comparison to ours.

Eh.  Tattoos weren't the only thing but being a blue blood saved you from really getting popped, same as many other big name programs over the years.  If Akron had been doing it though, look out!

Well, one time under John Cooper we did also have a WR who pulled a Full Blutarsky 0.0 GPA.  (That one was a personal favorite, actually.  He eventually went back to school in his 30s and graduated with a GPA of 3.5).  FWIW that same year we did kick the snot out of A&M in the Sugar Bowl.
