Possibly. His ex-wife moved to Oxford too. If I was trying to earn back my children’s trust it would be difficult for me to sleep with my daughter’s peers.

Career Records vs Top 10

5-18 for Sark

4-21 for Franklin

Both only have 1 win vs top 5 teams in their career

Franklin is 4-26 against top 10 teams in his career.

One has coached at Penn State for the last 12 years.

The other has half his top 10 losses from his time at Washington over a decade ago

Those losses from Franklin include his time at Vanderbilt, but nice try.

It's just funny I've seen across multiple boards people shitting on Franklin when Sark is closer to Franklin.

Your problem is that we have a couple of wins over top 10 teams on the road in the last few of years, sorry to burst your masturbatory bubble.

James Franklin has a top 10 win in that same time frame!

Kiffin would leave Ole Miss for more money. It’s as simple as that. That’s basically the #1 reason humans do anything.

So who's paying you to show up regularly and debase yourself on surly with horrible takes?

Who's prepared to have Barton Simmons on their school's payroll?

Simmons and Lea are both Vanderbilt alums, and have gotten some pretty decent investment in facilities. I'm not saying Lea won't leave for another job, but both have been pretty vocal about making Vanderbilt a regular football power. And they've been pretty successful so far in taking steps to that direction. I'm not sure Lea will leave for another program at this point, and certainly Simmons isn't going to follow him just because...Simmons is already extremely wealthy. I think these guys want their school to win at football.

You still don't get the point.

James Franklin has played 25 games against top 10 teams and 80% (20 of 25) have come at Penn State.

Steve Sarkisian has played 23 games against top 10 teams and almost half came at the University of Washington 15 years ago.

To add to it, James Franklin is 15-28 against ranked opponents at Penn State. 15-28. Steve Sarkisian isn't anywhere near that level.

Yeah.  No.

MS, GA, AL, SC, and TN are Deep South.  Maybe KY but I don’t really consider them Deep South at this point.  Arkansas is mountain hillbillies

Florida is Florida.   It’s its own creature.

Texas is Texas and is southwest if anything    We were our own republic and don’t fit in with the Gumps and the Bouchets and the rest.

Louisiana is just Louisiana.

So far from correct, it's laughable. Arkansas is more than the NW corner of the state.

Not only that, Sark inherited a winless team there. Washington was 0-12 the season before he got there. He walked into a mess and even while he was half in the bag he built that program into respectability.

Ole Miss is prim and proper, the Grove, deep souther ties and roots , very little infiltration of anything other than redshirting Ms Amercias.

From what my son tells me, there's also a gigantic infiltration of cocaine at Ole Miss. All his high school buddies who ended up there are doing rails like we used to pound Pearl Light in college. And lots of whippets, although they call it something else now. Nothing says prim and proper like blow and nitrous. Hotty Toddy.

James Franklin has played 30 games against top 10 teams, and 25 of them have come as the head coach at Penn State.  The original numbers BO&W did not include his 0-5 record while at Vanderbilt.

Auburn feels like it is definitely going to open up.

6-6 is very much on the table. 2 losses currently, and still have to play Georgia, Alabama, Missouri, and Vandy.

After watching them against OU and a little against A&M... man, if they just spent their money on a different QB, they could be sitting in a very good spot.

I thought the same thing. The interim for Ok State fired their DC yesterday also. I just don’t recall seeing that before.

I can play it round or flat: Cleaning out unproductive staff could have been a condition precedent to appointment as the interim. Alternatively, it could be the interim guy trying to turn things around for an inside shot at the permanent gig. Either way, it seems that AD buy-in before the firings had to be involved.

Petrino fired the DC and two d assistants this morning before 800 am.  He doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks.  Pittman should have fired this idiot dc a year ago.

Louisiana isn't the deep south but Kentucky might be? You're overthinking this. I have a very simple rule: are there pine trees? If yes, you're in the south.

There is no way they went into last offseason with the plan to acquire someone like Jackson Arnold to be their QB. I'm assuming they tried to lure some other options into the portal and failed.

As of September 29, 2025, there is no information available regarding the retirement of Terrance Donnels, also known as LSUFreek. The context provided details the recent appointment of Bobby Petrino as interim head coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks following the firing of Sam Pittman on September 28, 2025.
Petrino, who previously served as Arkansas's head coach from 2008 to 2011 before being fired due to a scandal involving a motorcycle accident and an affair with a staff member, has been named interim coach and is a candidate for the permanent position.
He has already begun restructuring the coaching staff, firing three defensive assistants on September 29, 2025.

I don't think Simmons is a Vandy alum but both guys grew up in Nashville and Lea played for Vandy. So yeah, agree with your overall point.

Also, if I'm an AD, I'd want to see Lea do it without Pavia before I'd offer him.

Sure.  And why would Freeman listen?

He's from Ohio.  He's never coached in the south

He has a national recruiting base and a special CFP exemption.

You're right, he's just from Nashville. That being said, his ties to Lea are pretty strong, they played HS ball together.

You're overthinking this too. The deep south is South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. It's a name that people use to refer to a region, and that's the region. It doesn't have anything to do with trees or mountains.

You could maybe argue that parts of Texas or Florida could be included, but you'd be arguing and not agreeing. Everyone agrees that those five states are in the deep south.

I think schools are trending away from huge coach salaries and towards paying players more. Take the extra 5 million you would pay for splash hire and spend it on a QB. You can still get a great coach for $10 million.

I keep seeing this message spread around on this board in various spots, but I have yet to see any evidence that's what's happening. It's all very logical, but when a couple blue bloods come open, and are fucking desperate, lets see if they don't end up offering 15 million dollars a year to a commodity that isn't underwhelming to their fanbase. Particularly with about 3 sports agents holding every string for potential coaching candidates in their hands.

It would need to be a Jimbo type of stupid guaranteed money.  Freeman makes 9 million a year or more at ND. He almost certainly has a longer leash and is dealing with a more pleasant group of boosters and alums. Look at BK, he chased that SEC money and Freeman has been to more CFPs and played for more championships.

I think that in the NIL era, ND is one of the best jobs in the sport.

If Nicole drags Sark into the river tonight, who's the first guy you call tomorrow?

Now that we're all in on the SEC if it isn't Saban, I'd call Lane.

It could certainly happen - schools are shockingly profligate when it comes to coaches' salaries. And they want to keep up with the Joneses.

But I've always thought that Florida had more sense than the average school, and have tried to show some restraint when it comes to their coaching searches and hires. The AD has to have built up some credibility with boosters etc., given that they just won the national championship in basketball. They're far from perfect, however, and at this point may be pretty desperate.

Freeman almost won a damn national championship last season. Florida may still have a higher ceiling than ND but I'm not sure it's an easy rebuild and like Texas there is a huge CEO component there. Kelly got his ass-kicked three times in the BCSCG and CFP and then LSU backed up the Brinks truck. And so far at LSU he hasn't replicated the same success.

I'd call DeBoer. Or the guy at Washington, Fisch. As much as it would pain be to have someone named Jedd as the head coach of Texas, I'd get over it. Although I'm not sure he has the personality to coach a program like Texas. He might. I'd label Cignetti similar, considering his age and level of DGAF.

Two things:
1) With revenue sharing nigh, does that change the math on programs' willingness to pay big buyouts?  At SOME point they can't spend MORE money, right?
2) Rather than firing a middling coach, paying the buyout and starting all over, will schools put that buyout money into the NIL fund instead?  Give the coach more resources for a year and see if they can do anything with it?   I see Fick having a chance with that.
