What I was really getting at was how long it took Hitler to get things in place before shit really hit the fan.  We're still in the early days of this rising fascist state.

Keep in mind that the Beer Hall Putsch happened in 1923. It definitely took time for the Nazis to get their shit straight.  As Brisket said "slowly at first and then all at once."  Miller is not going to stop until somebody stops him.

Our economy is NOT strong - an ever smaller group of consumers and businesses make up a significantly larger percentage of spending. It's a K-shaped economy with the top getting exponentially bigger while the bottom gets steadily smaller.

The stock market is strong, but individuals are fucking struggling. Hard times and complex problems make people look for simple solutions, and trumpism and blaming nonwhite people is a simple answer.

I joked earlier this year about trump DIY'ing his own economic calamity to enable his fascist takeover, and goddamn it's happening before our eyes

It's our nature to think things are always bad, especially as we age, but actually, the world is in pretty good shape right now.

  • There is a much higher percentage of people marked as middle class around the world than ever before, and that's astounding considering how many more people there are today.
  • There are a higher percentage of democracies in the world today than ever before and lots of them are doing well.
  • Wars are contained to hot spots. That's actually pretty good by the normal horrible standards of mankind.
  • Our economy is, relatively speaking, pretty good. It's much better than the '70's when all the cities went broke.
  • It's better than the .com bust of the 2000's.
  • And it's way better than 2009-2011 and unlike much of the world, we had a very strong rebound after 2020.
  • Look at all the investment in the cities. New York looks like a palace compared to when I moved there in 1982.
  • And for having so many people struggling with inflation, those same people sure do buy a lot of stuff, travel, snd buy bigger houses than anyone in the '70s thought was possible. etc.

I would argue that the Overton window in this sense has shifted. What you posted is what my maga BIL always tries to argue. It’s irrelevant.

Yay, the world isn’t as shitty as it has been historically overall. We also have a much more open-eyed approach as to what society should and can be. I’m not satisfied with America because we don’t chop people’s hands off for stealing. I’m pissed that we fail in so many easily fixable ways.

AI bubble popping will fix that real quick. The world is actually pretty shit right now and on the brink of a major global catastrophe and reset.

The issue right now is there's a ton of people who can live in a fantasy world divorced from the harsh realities everywhere else because they live inside of the bubble, both economically and socially.

Cool. Yet here is the dominant ethos in this country.  Seriously, it is the governing ethos, to the repressive and violent exclusion of everything else:

We must "Make America Great Again," because "America is going to hell" and is awash in "American Carnage," with its cities being "war-torn."

It's just more MAGA bullshit -- say both things (America is paradise, and also America is hell), so you can then argue either position against any critic of Trumpism, thus immunizing Trump against all criticism.

How can you say Trump is bad for America?  See the list above!

How can you say Trump doesn't need to do whatever it takes to save America?  See the fact that it's going to hell and American carnage!

Fuck that bullshit.

I'll let you guys argue all those points because you're better informed than me. My point is agnostic to politics: That it's common nature to think things are bad when by any measure, things are pretty good for most Americans and the world in general.

You're presenting an imagined scenario that you envision could happen, and are referring to it like it's realty. It's not reality.

I'm not under the delusion of that being a possibility I'm saying that overall Americans don't really put up with that bullshit and the vocal minority are filled with idiots not with smart people who are sadistic

America's been putting up with a fuckton more bullshit than anyone could have expected.

Do you think fact that that's the case and that the fucking President of the United States of America is nevertheless going online and on tv every day and openly saying delusional shit about how cities are burning down to justify a military crackdown is better than if shit was bad and he wasn't being delusional?

That has nothing to do with what I am discussing.

AMD stock has gone up 100B in Mkt cap based on a fake revenue agreement on chips it has yet to even tape out. I'm not imagining anything.

Just so you understand how fucking stupid and detached that is that's like amd gaining the entire market cap of intel. A company that owns massive manufacturing capacity and makes its own chips while AMD uses TSMC and has overall less market share in all consumer, client, mobile, server, embedded markets. Its GPU and network businesses account for less than the difference in revenue of that market share differential as well.

Its fucking bullshit.

I have as much say in stopping our government's descent into fascism as I do for improving our o-line. We can sunshine pump all we want but I'm not sure what if anything you or I can do to directly affect a change.

Further, shitting on discussion and discourse does nothing but reinforce the status quo as "normal". So that's probably a big part of why you're getting the reaction you've been enjoying. But seriously, I've canvassed for candidates I like, called my reps and senators (lmfao, right?) to express my position as a constituent, but sadly I lack the millions in disposable political speech (read: millions of dollars) that enable my voice to be truly heard.

It's a lot easier to not be a downer when everything isn't going to shit while a group is dedicated to accelerating that trend. It does suck that it's not the early 2000's and we still had a semblance of class mobility and market fairness, and a football team that didn't crumble in the face of adversity, but alas. We fuckin don't.

So many of the high-value stocks are simply utter vibes and bullshit.  It's insane.  And the day that the world realizes the emperor has no clothes is going to be a fucking bloodbath market-wise.  I mean, imagine if Tesla or AMD were actually valued based on their fundamentals tomorrow morning.

Yeah, doing something in this context would mean either preparing for an armed resistance or getting the donors in line to threaten pulling NIL money if Sark doesn't hit the portal hard for OL next cycle. I'm neither obscenely rich, nor do I have a military background. I can run a so-so 5k, so I might could be a bit useful to John Connor, but the man I am not.

I hate to say it, but softlynow only pawn in game of life.

Until they aren't. Historic examples abound. If the AI bubble bursts, we might have to revise our definition of pretty good.
