The motherfucker was on a ship at sea surrounded by other ships, or back in Florida staring at television monitors. He wasn't in a doorway in Fallujah trying to figure out where sniper fire was coming from so he could save one of his guys who was pinned down.

Doubtful.  This is shit that ends careers.  Not a good market for former flag officers who lose their rank/end up with felonies on their record, because they are useless. The private sector hires flag officers because flag officers give them access to people or places they want access to.  They wouldn't get that here.

And Trump and Whiskey Pete will absolutely burn this guy.

If you're a senior officer, and your boss, the Secretary of Defense, is on social media proclaiming you a hero and telling everybody he's got your back and that you did no wrong....

My guess is that the Admiral doesn’t have an agent nearly as good as Jimbo and that the Trump administration isn’t nearly as dumb as aggy (although it seems pretty damn close…..)

So we're murdering Venezualans based solely on "suspicion" of drug traffiking, while pardoning a major drug traffiker who was convicted by an American jury, and still, right wing voters don't give a shit, or think it's less important than the story about the trans swimmer from a million years ago. Fuck this country.

If you check their net worth, it all makes more sense.  That is the only measure of worth.  Doesn't matter if you are drug trafficker, a Muslim, a Communist, an immigrant, or a pedophile.  If you have money, Trump wants to hang with you.  If you are poor, you are worthless.

They don’t know it’s happening. This doesn’t penetrate their bubble. That’s not an excuse. Just what’s happening. If it’s not on Fox News or one of their rage bait podcasts, it never happened.

It'd be nice if a Dem would point out that Donald Trump is pretty clearly allying himself with a drug cartel and is using our military to wipe out the competition.

Also this.

Trump isn't against the drug trade.

He's against drug trade that happens without him being cut in on the deal.  And he is using the full military might of the US to give his team a monopoly.

They moved tens of thousands of men and dozens of ships and a lot of aircraft to prepare for their war against Venezuela and it might come undone becauee somebody couldn’t help but kill a couple of dudes floating on some wreckage.

If Bradley actually goes up in front of Congress next week, do we think they'll get the original guy that resigned as well?

And will Bradley take the fall?  They didn't have that little get-together last night just for shits and giggles, that was all about getting stories straight.

Someone is going to have to be an adult at some point and say "The Secretary of War made the call on shooting the survivors and he was watching. I know this because he gave the illegal order to murder the survivors."

Until we get that this is all just garbage like the rest of everything else these buffoons do.

Anyone with first-hand knowledge can't say that publicly without going to prison because I'm sure it's all classified.  I'm betting there are a few people waiting for a subpoena.  Admiral Holsey is probably checking his mailbox 3 times a day.

Is that the one that was already jam-packed with examples of Greg Davis calling a telegraphed wide receiver screen for a loss of yards?  That's a pretty big file, I can't see how you could misplace it.

Yeah, if it was a “clean” strike, we would have seen video footage already. Hell, they have pumped out footage almost same-day for other strikes.

They were not having a full nighttime security council or whatever meeting the other night because the video exonerated them.

And now NBC’s Signalgate investigation has been released, claiming Whiskey Pete put soldiers at risk with his use of Signal.

Do y’all like how they initially called this whole thing “fake news” and blamed the media? Thats strange, for something they claim is perfectly fine and legal.

Well I do know that the DoD IG is now at risk, that's for damn sure.

Yes the rule of law on such things should matter. However, rules stopped mattering a good while ago now and playing by the rules of a system that exists in name only does not much matter. It would be nice if he’d get a subpoena though so he can at least say he is doing it by the book even if the book has been torched.

A couple of recent articles on Holsey:

1. From December 1st, the military announced when he will actually hand over his command- Dec 12th.  He announced his retirement in October, but the timing wasn't announced.  I think they accelerated his departure after the news of the second strike broke.

2. The Wall Street Journal just ran an article saying that Holsey was pushed into retirement, after  "a culmination of months of discord."  That absolutely sounds like damage control.  Not only does it reduce the speculation that Holsey retired due to the strikes, it establishes a motive for why he might lie.  (I don't have a WSJ sub to share the article or read much past the headline.  Fuck Murdoch.)

Is he willing to go down for an Army major who never held a major command and who had a spotty career of leaving and re-entering the service?

If you are going to lie on behalf of the fascists currently in charge then yes his career deserves to come to an end and he should at a later point get a court-martial whenever the country comes out of this. You either protect and defend the constitution that you swore an oath to or you get ex-communicated from the military completely due to shameful actions like this.

This appears to be unfortunately true.

Aside from his willingness to prevaricate, an officer of his rank knows what he did was criminal.  Fuck, a bunch of armchair warriors here know that's unlawful.

He should have refused the second strike, and probably the first, too.

It has come to light that an awful lot of our SF operators are pretty much meatheads.  Their officers shouldn't be, but probably are.  McRaven may be more exception than rule.

Bullshit. I know a lot of them. They could lecture at UT tomorrow on a wide range of things. Give me an 18D on any development project. Best medics in the world.

Do not confuse SF with SOCOM. It is a component that was wrongly used.

And McRaven is a SEAL. Not SF. SF set up their dive school.

Not being a dick, but this is a subject I know well.

Bradley's resume is full of SEAL positions.  As I mentioned upthread, I think those missions have much more grey area on the rules of engagement.  But fuck him if he can't distinguish sending small crews into enemy territory from stopping a completely outgunned boat in waters you control  He deserves to go to prison.

I stumbled across this article the US Naval Institute that I found interesting that discusses the previous approach.  Excerpt below.

Quote

The historical interdiction model is layered. Detection usually comes from maritime patrol aircraft, including Coast Guard HC-130s, Navy P-8 Poseidons, or allied surveillance assets. These cue cutters or Navy ships with embarked Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachments to intercept “go-fast” vessels—long, low-profile speedboats designed for narcotics smuggling.2

In the late 1990s, the Coast Guard created the Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) to improve its ability to stop high-speed vessels. HITRON employs armed MH-65C Dolphin helicopters that apply graduated force against suspect vessels. Aircrews begin with sirens, loudspeakers, and hand signals to compel compliance. If ignored, they escalate to warning bursts across the bow from mounted machine guns. Should the vessel continue flight, precision rifle fire—typically from a .50-caliber sniper rifle—is directed at the outboard engines to disable propulsion.3 The approach works: By the early 2000s, HITRON boasted interdiction success rates of more than 90 percent.4

This model reflects a deliberate policy choice to preserve life and capture suspects for prosecution rather than destroy vessels and kill crews. The approach lends itself to building criminal cases against organizations and their leaders, rather than taking out low-level operatives. It also allows careful management of relationships with countries known or believed to support narcotics trafficking. The model historically has resulted in high rates of efficient and successful criminal prosecutions. It is precisely this longstanding framework that makes the 2 September strike so remarkable. The operation bypassed the Coast Guard’s established procedures of warning, disabling, and boarding in favor of immediate lethal force, foregoing any notion of protecting the due process rights of the individuals involved.

Until now, no U.S. administration had authorized the destruction of a suspected drug vessel at sea, without warning or boarding. Such action is contrary to international law.
