Are you people stupid... Oh yeah I've read the Ewers thread you are. PK was a good DC for us Muschamp was the best DC Texas has ever had this is a great day.

Eh, I’m really partial to the Greg Robinson. He was MONEY with the defensive design and play calling at Texas.

Maybe this was also a move to figure out how to change his offense against teams with dominate defenses like Georgia that has handled us pretty easily the last two years.

It is shocking but if Muschamp can field a defense like Georgia's I would be gruntled.

PK landing at Oregon sounds plausible.

Kirby basically gave this evaluation of Texas after they beat us this year:

This will no longer be the case with a Muschamp defense. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Flood is next on the chopping block.

2 years ago...you know their back to back titles based on their killer defenses?

We got this guy? Awesome

Glenn Schumann was promoted to Defensive Coordinator (Inside Linebackers) prior to the 2022 season and has been calling plays for the Georgia defense since that move.

Saban said as much in the playoffs last season.  He said that at some point UT would have to play some man on D and be aggressive.  PK was a “bend don’t break” DC.  That doesn’t fit well with Sark’s finesse O.  Sark’s O did better with Saban style D.  That seems to be what he wants.

Sark's O did better with Saban style HC. The issue hasn't been the defense. It's consistently been running game and RZ performance one of which attributes greatly to the lack of possession time, long and therefore bad 3rd down conversion and ultimately leaves the D on the field too long.

What to know what Saban’s offense did really well while  Sark was OC? I'll give you guesses.

It is, in fact, the nail.

Address the real issues. OL and offensive play calling.

Being DC the entire time here probably made things stale. We needed some fresh blood in coaching. Wish that one of these moves were on offensive side too but it ain’t over yet I’m sure.

We need some fresh blood for the OL and ST

Not going through 7 pages of shit so this may have already been brought up, but the Muschamp watch of end of 07/beginning of 08 on Shaggy was epic

Some people are letting the Muschamp head coach experience cloud their judgement. Dude is a good DC.

It's not like his HC teams had terrible defenses either. He is a good hire.

It's very surprising news but if PK was looking for an out, Sark had to move quick to secure a hire. And PK looking for an out seems like the most likely explanation to me, and frankly the only believable one. The idea that this was a straight perfomance thing seems nonsensical. Had to be more to it.

Maybe PK, a northwest lifer prior to coming to Texas, is indeed looking at USC and/or Oregon to get back to the west coast footprint. Maybe one of those two was prepared to make a truly $tupid offer he could not refuse or Texas couldn't reasonably match. Maybe Sark was going to can Akina and friction regarding position coach selection reared its head - remember, it was a somewhat awkward fit from the start with Sark hiring assistants (Mike Stoops lol) before a DC, thinking he could get Muschamp. Maybe it's a little of all of it.

Are PK and Akina in anyway connected? I don't know of one, but haven't dug into their pasts to look for crossover.

If PK wanted an out, he'd likely already have had one unless it was for an HC gig, which isn't impossible but seems unlikely.

PK was a significant upgrade from Todd Orlando and Chris Ash for crying out loud.   But dammit he was not what we needed to kick ass on D in the SEC.

PK had his moments where he looked brilliant in SEC play mainly against OU and aggy for some strange reasons.   But just rewind to the fricken Florida and MSU games this fall where the D looked like complete dog shit  (to complement the crappy offense)  against  dog shit teams.   This is not too forget to mention how we were whipped physically on defense against UGA this year as well as twice last year although we looked better against UGA in the SEC 'ship.     Those games along with the UK game is what the idiotic  playoff committee held over our heads and is why we are preparing for Michigan in two weeks and not James Madison, Bama, OU  or Tulane at home this weekend.    Let's not forget how we almost let little Napoleon and Vandy back into what should've been a blow out game which justified the playoff committee and some of the media pollsters to keep Vandy close on our heels or even put them over us in all the playoff chatter.

To put it in Ford 150 trims

Orlando and Ash were Ford Custom or XL trims pre 1990's when you could get a Ford XL without carpet,  with vinyl seats and no A/C and an AM Radio  ( yes I am that old)

PK was an XLT or Lariat Model  (current generation)

We need a King Ranch or Platinum level trim package DC at the helm if we are going to be serious contender year in and year out in the SEC.

I'll give Sark full credit for knowing this one of the two key pieces he needs to make elite in order to not only win the SEC, but dominate the damn conference.   Now he needs to do the same for the O-line at very least if not handing over the OC duties to someone just as respected in the football world who has no ambitions to return to Head Coaching or is content on being the best in that aspect of the game as position coach and/or coordinator.

Muschamp knows the SEC inside and out.     Sign me up!

I understand the urge to rationalize in the face of surprising, potentially detrimental news; but this is giving major "I didn't want that #1 prospect we lost out on anyway!" energy.

PK has been a very good DC his entire career. Losing him when we're already looking at significant roster turnover isn't great. Now we've got to install a system and re-recruit guys too. Muschamp has also been a very good DC. He knows the SEC and perhapshis more agressive style will be a nice change of pace. Change can be good and bad, even simultaneously. We'll just have to see how it goes.

@Hank_Hill and @TrashMaster G, I saw you each gave me negative reps for trashing Coach Sark.

Hey, I'm in a little bit of situation here at Surly Horns, due to my posts and some stupid, innaccurate misunderstanding about some missing money. It's really not a big deal, and it's not even that much money that I lost, and there's no reason to look into the situation, 'cause there's nothing going on.

Anyways, if you guys could each give me around 25 likes, that would be really great and help me with my current situation. We're a family!

Robert?

But seriously though some of y'all have sand in your panties. Remember how much you loved PK after Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt?

Oh and what was Muschamp doing in 2022-2023?  Georgia's D was #5 and #9 in total defense and won two NCs.  Damn he sucked.

I love this. Feels like an upgrade to me. Enough talk about being aggressive. Sark must have gotten sick of it saying it and not seeing it.

No more chickenshit soft coverages on third down. We need some fiery rabid energy on the sideline.

I meant more along the lines of PK not liking where Sark was going with a replacement, or just the general musical chairs with secondary staff. I'm speculating though. I think USC/Oregon coming open this cycle (and USC not being a total gut job this time) are probably the most appealing options he'd have since being here.

I don’t think PK deserved firing, but Muschamp just won 2 NC’s as a DC with UGA in the last 3 seasons.

You think it’s great to see that clown for the LSU WBB team make an ass of herself on the bench?  Goes for any coach that wants to act like a dickhead they need to keep it in the locker room.

It’s not binary.  A lot of people (including Saban) think that PK’s D and Sark’s O were not the best fit.  Doesn’t mean that they both haven’t been good over the past 5 years.  But the soft, bend don’t break D and finesse O were in trouble vs UGA and OSU teams.  Those together have given UT a finesse identity.
