  1. Not to watch Malcolm Epps take snaps when he's not very good? Not to be coached by Drew Mehringer? Lots of possibilities.

  2. There's a significant difference between what Clinton's impeachment process was predicated on (lying about a blowjob) vs the criminal acts and betrayal of our allies for personal gain that trumps administration has been engaged in. At least that's what a swath of decorated, non partisan military veterans and diplomats and officers appointed by trump have been testifying to under oath. I'd rather have actual oversight and consequences NOW rather than another year plus of fuckery. Especially when the process being used to investigate and prosecute is the only constitutionally supported avenue to force accountability

  3. Yes. this nation has far greater problems than Trump. We have his many venal enablers, the GOP, and its cult like followers. And the nation is being torn apart by a racist, misogynist, nativist political party whose leader called half the country "human scum," is using our tax dollars and our employees in support of his political campaign, and is putting brown children in camps. But it's inquiring about his crimes that's tearing the country apart. JFC.

  4. Yea libtards.... impeachment is completely unconstitutional and against the founding father’s wishes which is why they put it in the constitution!

  5. Aggy buddy of mine took a pic with Jimbo tonight. Posted it on Facebook. I responded “did you ask him if he was passing candi out for Halloween?” I’m happily vilified on his thread

  6. Yeah, see the answer “when it’s a dem.” What I fucking LOVE about Republicans is their masturbatory fantasy version of the constitution. They stand and fight for the sacred constitutional principle that “THIS IS A CHRISTIAN NATION!” And “WE SWEAR AN OATH TO THE FLAG!” Neither of which, of course, are in the constitution. Anywhere. But impeachment - a mechanism so important that it is SPECIFICALLY embedded in the Constitution...well, that’s just not a thing. Indeed, some of these fucking morons actually call impeachment - a creature OF the constitution - “unconstitutional.” Fuck them. Fuck them all. And fuck everyone who excuses and enables them. We designed the plane with an ejection seat because sometimes it’s crashing and you need to push the eject button. “Stick with the plane till it augers in” is not just fucking stupid, it’s doubly stupid when your argument against ejection from a plane that lost both wings is “we should only eject in an emergency!” Trump’s conduct is LITERALLY why we have the impeachment mechanism. And I don’t mean that rhetorically - I mean that the exact type of conduct he’s engaging in was the type of conduct the founders were specifically concerned about when they created the mechanism. We should impeach shameless criminal foreign collaborator presidents. It’s why we have the goddamned rule of law.

  7. Say what we want? Okay. I'll say this: Mehringer is predictably handling the meltdown after OU worse than anyone else on the staff. He puts that on display by berating and shaming his players, and Meekins' guys, during both practice and film study. He's completely despised by those he coaches and he's running around whining about deserving to keep his job. He's got every player in his purview actively telling people that they hate it at Texas playing for him, and then they're getting in front of recruits in the same vein. This stumbling fuck-up hipster dufus is going to actively yet accidentally burn his part of the program down to the slab before the season ends. I have no idea whether Herman has the capacity or awareness to do anything about it, and no one else is sure either. Our best hope is that he gets hit by a bus walking across campus, or that Casey Horny organizes a team rape train on him for grins during the off-weekend. That's just me saying what I want.

  9. What trump and guiliani were trying to do was NOT sanctioned. It was not flowing through normal channels, and was in fact acting against our nation's strategic interests abroad. That's not my opinion. It's the opinion of the man who pompeo called out of retirement and asked him to run the diplomacy because he understood our nation's position so well. The nature of this issue is also far more than just the bad faith actions. His admin (and the office of the president itself) have abused classified systems to hide information from the public in the furtherance of deceiving the public and public oversight. It's a coverup AND a crime. And for fucks sake, stop comparing this to the clintons. Trump withheld congressionally approved and designated military aid, which to be clear here is literally subverting the will of the people by refusing to comply with duly passed legislation, in the effort of pushing an ally that's literally at war with russia to create a news story about his political opponent. The bare facts of the offense alleged (and testified to by trump appointed officials) are damning and concerning. But hey, when you can't attack the facts, you attack process, right?

  11. Accusing the other team of doing what you are doing is a deliberate Orwellian strategy. It takes the sting out of legitimate criticism. “Oh you think WE are a cult? What about that time YOU were a cult?” That strategy only works if your supporters are either cynical liars or idiots who don’t understand the basic concepts underlying the accusations. Which is why it works for the GOP.

  14. If you're the old washpark, I'm disappointed in these posts. As for the above, we have a different world of political parties now. Although the hate engine created by the right and exploited by the GOPs over the last 3 decades has described their political opponents as enemies of America, the GOPs have made themselves that very thing. The Dems and libs have never been enemies or outside of the USA. Recall Reagan saying that the Dems had gone so far left that they'd left the country? There's your beginning to the poison poured into the waters of political discourse. The GOP has taken hate-the-other rhetoric to fascist levels and don't even recognize it in themselves. Why? Because they've been lying for decades that it's the other side that seeks dictatorial rule. They've convinced 60 million Americans that this is true. This was not the GOP of Nixon's day. His was a wicked crew, but the party chose to spit some of that out. Now the GOP occupies the same evil skin only worse. This hate is all that remains of the GOP. Creating and exploiting hate typifies a group of sociopaths calling themselves the party of Lincoln. LINCOLN! Every GOP out to be caned down main street for sullying that great name. Anybody who stands with Trump stands with selfish disregard for anything that benefits anyone other than themselves. It's the evil tree that grew from the roots of seeing oneself as only a taxpayer and not a citizen. Fiscal responsibility is wise. Greed is a vice. GOPs are at the very best greedy. At their worst they are anti-Constitution and willfully cruel in their quest for wealth and power. They may very well have set the groundwork for the end of the republic. Neither party was like that in Nixon's day. You could believe at least some part of each party and partisan had some element of concern for the general well being and the well being of the USA. Not now. If someone machine-gunned every GOP cunt that gathered to speak after the vote, I could not care less. They have made themselves actual enemies to my country. If Trump's backers will pledge violence in the name of Donald Trump, I comfortably welcome the same for any person who makes himself a danger to the United States. I write this coldly. I won't regret it. I have no sympathy for those grabbing for power and wealth as 90% of the rest of us will be left in a disaster area.

  15. it's somewhat telling that you are only worried about democratic partisanship. the goal is to highlight the corruption of the president of the united states of america, and to also force the senate republicans to the choice of supporting corruption out of partisan loyalty or for them to do the right thing and remove this piece of shit from office. i think it is rather important for senate republicans to put their names out there in support of naked, visible corruption, if for nothing else, the sake of history taking down their names as people who valued party criminality over the best result for our nation. and the democratic primaries are going ahead as planned. as it turns out, those running for 2020 are engaging in productive exercises like town halls and debates, all at he same time as the impeachment inquiry progresses. somehow these things are happening simultaneously! it's a goddamned miracle.

  22. Obviously very disappointed, but it truly was a historic season. We watched our team win 107 games. Saw two no-hitters. Got to watch JV and Cole dominate all season long. Saw Bregman turn into a true MVP-caliber player. Were introduced to Air Yordan, who was as advertised. And got to celebrate after the face of the franchise hit a home run at home to clinch the pennant. On a more personal level, I was able to come home for a week and catch several games this season with my parents, and I took my mom on an Owner’s Experience tour and got to watch the guys take BP on the field. It didn't end the way we wanted, and it's a shame that the story of this season has this unhappy ending. But it was an awesome ride. Aside from losing the series, I think the most disappointing part of this world series was watching our team become the heel in the story. I'm not talking about Bregman carrying the bat or Correa holding his hand to his ear. I'm taking about Osuna, Taubman, and the PR response. Luhnow bet the organization's image on Osuna coming in and helping us win a World Series. It hasn't worked out. Luhnow saw a market inefficiency and exploited it. It seems as though he failed to account for the loss of reputation costs. Our front office is cold and calculating. It has resulted in the most talented Astros teams we have ever seen, but the approach has its blind spots. Win at all costs only works out when you win. Our organization should be the envy of the league, and it likely is if we are being honest. But it's tough to defend how they handled Taubman. It's tough to defend how the handled the response. And their failure to handle this situation resulted in what should be one of the most likable teams in the league being viewed as the villain. The players and the fan base deserved better. So did the journalist who reported the story. I enjoyed discussing this season with you all. I live in Montana and know only one other Astros fan in the entire state. This thread has allowed me to interact with Astros fans in a way I would not be able to do otherwise. I have no doubt that I would have enjoyed this season much less if not for this thread. Today will suck. I am the “Astros guy” here. I’ve already had to discuss last night with several people at the gym this morning. My colleagues in the office will be coming by my office today to offer condolences. They all mean well, but I’d be happier if they all just fucked off today. As for the offseason, if you were still holding out hope that the Astros were going to sign Cole, it may be time to put those hopes to bed. Maybe I'm reading too much into post-games comments following a frustrating and devastating loss. but it certainly sounds like Cole has pitched his last game for the Astros. We will need to target at least one SP, as I don't believe we can count on Whitley being ready to assume the 5th spot on Opening Day. We also need to address the bullpen. Pressly and Osuna will be back, but Harris is gone, and i don't really trust anyone else currently on the roster. If we can, we need to get something of value from Reddick and let Tucker take over RF duties full time. I am not in the camp that thinks we should trade Correa. But all of these discussions can be saved for the offseason thread. I hope to see you all there.

  25. It’s exactly what he’s saying. So long as the presidents party doesn’t break ranks, then gosh, impeachment is bad. And shame on the other party. No, there’s a fucking difference. One of those parties is inciting people to murder folks like me. Maybe you’d like to go shopping at an El Paso Walmart with me? People with names like me are having their families ripped apart and their children imprisoned in a gleeful masturbatory hate-fest by that party. The deadliest anti-Semitic attack in our history happened a year ago, spurred on by that rabid anti immigrant and anti other rhetoric. So, with zero due respect, go fuck yourself. Maybe your ass isn’t in the crosshairs. Great for you. How about you give a fuck about the rest of us? Oh, and I loved your Kavanaugh quote. You don’t even get the irony of him describing EXACTLY why we’re dealing with as being “what impeachment is made for.” Remember, I used to generally be Republican. If you dont realize the actual and ongoing criminal threat Trump and the GOP represent, you’re willfully blind.

  26. The tearing apart isn't happening because House Democrats are performing their constitutional duty. The tearing apart is happening because the President consistent acts to undermine the Rule of Law, breaks the law, lies to the American people, and the Republicans in Congress continue to support him in his actions and lie on his behalf.

  29. So I stayed off Surly last night. Win or lose I just wanted to experience game 7 without any external stuff. Sad and disappointing for sure. Wasted chances and breaks that went against us. Questionable managerial decisions, unlikely heroes and goats. Inches one way or another helping or hurting. In other words... Baseball. I have two adult sons who live elsewhere and we only see each other a few times a year. We spent the entire season watching games and group texting as often as we could. We did that last night too. Regardless of the season outcome, I cherish that. Have been and always will be an Astros fan. Can't wait for pitchers and catchers to report. Let's make some great moves in the off-season.

  32. in 1995 Holmes was out with an injury. A freshman Ricky Williams was played at fullback so they could put him and Shon Mitchell (who was a great college RB) in the same backfield, and it worked beautifully with Williams and Mitchell both rushing for nearly 1000 yards. In 96 Williams was moved to halfback ahead of Mitchell who was dinged up, with Holmes in 3rd. What Mackovic did with those three and the way they were deployed situationally wasn’t a weakness, but a demonstration of how skillfully he managed and used his talent.
