  1. The real nexus goes back to 1950's US propaganda and identity and nationalism built on things that weren't at all what made us great and unique as a country. Essentially, the Republican ideal America was rubber-stamped when we had whites-only water fountains. The call themselves Patriots, but they're not willing to give one thing up to lift the country up as a whole. Their beliefs are all mottos and dog signals that they don't even believe in. They say they believe in states rights (which is their white-washed excuse for the civil war), but they don't really believe in states rights. They say they believe in small government, but the military is part of the government. They call themselves fiscal conservatives, but have never met a tax cut they didn't like. They are for themselves. They are not Patriots. And their national identity relates to demonizing those of us would have the audacity to seek progress.

  2. I'm relatively new to politics, only starting to pay any attention in the last few years when a psychopath took over. I get that democrats aren't some saints who are going to fix everything and the democratic party apparatus is very poorly maintained garage sale tricycle. But people on here talk like being a Democrat pre-Trump is some Scarlet Letter. "I'm a conservative, I voted for all these Republicans until Trump, but now..." or whatever, like it's some evidence of being sensible and not some bleeding-heart liberal. But were conservatives ever really not overtly racist, environment-destroying, greedy shitheads? Because that's all I've really seen from that party. Keep gays from getting married, sell off public land to the highest bidder, focus entirely on the unborn rather than the born somewhere else, and ensure that black/immigrant voices and votes are minimized. The whole federal spending thing is clearly a joke. I'm not proud to be a Democrat, it's not like they have been routinely ahead of the curve as far as these things are concerned. But I'm sure as shit proud to have never called myself a Republican. This fucking bullshit didn't start 1/20/16.

  3. I had two patient's show up to clinic yesterday, which again is attached to the hospital, without masks. 65 and 72 years of age. Gave both a mask, both set it on the counter. I guess me seeing patients from home while teaching my children while my wife continued to work nights so that we could keep the risk of spreading COVID low for those at high risk was misguided. Asked both patient's to leave. They weren't happy. I didn't care.

  4. Blame the people who spent decades defunding public education, spreading divisive conspiracy theories, insisting superstition and fairy tales are legitimate alternatives to science and reason, and transferring wealth from the working class to the uberwealthy.

  6. San Antonio be fucked. 638 new cases yesterday. The past few weeks are a complete shit show and on a horrible, catastrophic trajectory. I just got back from picking up a curbside order from HEB -- yes, they were open -- and it was unusually crowded in the parking lot. The girl loading the groceries told me that they were having another run with orders for the next day increasing quickly (even though I just checked the app and they still have a bunch of open slots tomorrow afternoon). I guess it's time to start hoarding toilet paper again and not being able to buy pasta. Just fucking great. I am beyond frustrated with all of this. I have been living like a got dam monk for three months plus and shit is worse than ever, and getting rapidly more awful. I'm increasingly getting mad at myself for adhering to extreme social distancing, working from home, etc. On the plus side, I'm not sick and nobody in my family is sick. But what the fuck am I doing all this for so every asshole can irresponsibly do whatever they want, ultimately forcing everybody else back into this shit storm? People suck. And to top it off, the school district sent out an email and in the next two weeks we have to choose whether our kids will distance learn or be on site in the fall. You have to pick one or the other, in the next two weeks. And the way I'm interpreting it is that you are stuck with that decision for the school year or at least the first semester. Really? Looking at that trend line above, I have a feeling that they are all going to have to move to distance learning regardless, but how in the blue fuck am I supposed to make that decision right now? My kids didn't learn shit in distance learning this spring. It was a terrible experience for them and for us. And now I get to choose between their educational and social development and rolling the dice with their/our health, with no option to change our mind based on how the virus progresses in the community.

  7. Fuck every single one of you mouthbreathing fucksticks that continually go on histrionic rants of “inclusiveness” and equality yet continue to make fun of a man that is disabled. I hope your fucking high horse breaks a leg walking out of the stall. Jesus people.

  9. The idea that debates will have any significant effect on the November election is ludicrous in my mind. Trump could shit in his hand and rub feces all over his own face and lick his fingers and his supporters would still vote for him. And I doubt there are many people that will listen to that buffoon and say, "you know....after 3.5 years I wasn't sure if I was pro-Trump or anti-Trump, but after to listening to his cogent, articulate argument on why we need confederate statues, I am now prepared to vote for that goofy orange bastard." This election will come down to one thing.....people turning out to vote and the GOP effort to suppress votes that are likely to vote democratic. Thats it. A legit election Trump is done. The only act left in this depressing play is whether or not the GOP can skew the election votes as needed in the key swing states to win the electoral college.

  12. How was our reopening plan dumber than many other countries? I have a friend who lives in South Korea..and other than shutting down schools for a couple months, they never really shut everything down there like we did here. In any case, the federal government has limited power in enforcing any sort of nationwide lockdown...its up to individual states, and in some cases cities within those states. LOL You really need an explanation of how our reopening plan was dumber than South Korea’s? They didn’t have to shut everything down because they were prepared to test, trace, temperature check in all public spaces, and have everyone wear masks. Meanwhile we didn’t have tests, don’t do temperature checks, and have made masks a political/partisan issue. This shit is not complicated

  15. I know you have to be you but ... I doubt either of them go anywhere, but even if they do Overshown is still a projection at the position and while his upside is very high (with athleticism and instincts), he's ALL projection at this point. Mitchell started 5 fucking games last year and was often the weakest link on the field. Hell, Tillman played in the first 4 games of the year and if he didn't injure his knee I think he'd have taken more and more snaps, instead he was injured but got to RS and still has 4 years to play. Honestly, Tillman and Gbenda are going to push those guys down the depth chart as it is, not unlike Coburn and Ossai did as they came off of their RS years, and Overshown would have to truly show out and play much better in space to steal reps. I suspect a large part of Mitchell's noted off-season issues truly revolve around the fact that he knows he's depth going in to this season. I don't want to lose either of them because depth has been such an issue but 'disastrous' is pretty dramatic for a meh player and a projection -- FFS, Cort Jaquess looked like the best LB on the team in the bowl game and certainly wasn't a demonstrative drop from a talent perspective (Thanks Todd!!) -- It's just not a good group but the Floyd loss hurts a hell of a lot more than Juwan Mitchell does. Despite what any depth chart says, I think we'll see Adimora and Foster both on the field in a lot of alignments, making the impact of their potential loss even less.

  32. And not just losing their health insurance now. We have no idea what the long term effects are of this virus. What if it leaves survivors with permanent lung or kidney damage? Y’all think insurance companies won’t throw them in the “preexisting condition” category and deny them health insurance forever? It’s going to fuck those poor people till they die.
