  4. So how did he come down on the 2nd Amendment, where the types of weapons that are available today were not yet conceived of back in those days? WHy are they legal by default? And why is he ok with ignoring the words "well regulated" in that amendment but needs to parse every other word in the document? Could it be that he's proof texting, just bending the words to mean what he wants them to mean and ignoring the rest, kind of like most Christian Americans do the Bible? Nah, that couldn't be it.

  7. You keep saying this, but the historical record is completely against you on this. A great example is the 1st Marine Division at Frozen Chosin. It becomes part of a unit's legend how they treat their wounded and dead. A big part of this is you don't know who is wounded or KIA or MIA. You can't leave them behind. Good armies take care of their wounded and collect their dead. Period.

  10. BS. It's a huge story but some want it hidden because of where some (not all) of the blame points at. The FDA started investigating the issue last Fall. They shut down the plant in Feb and only now will allow a limited restart, announced 2 days ago after Congress started complaining. Despite learning a month ago that none of the bacterial strains that started the shutdown can be linked to the plant. And the FDA had been way behind on much of their inspection efforts across the board because of Covid excuses. Buy some damn KN-95 masks and do your job. Further exacerbated by Fed restrictions on importing baby formula, expanded over multiple administrations, despite many of those countries meeting or exceeding fed safety standards. Why not use an executive order to declare an emergency and temporarily waive some restrictions? Or quickly get Congress to pass a measure if that is required? Instead the House has scheduled a hearing 2 weeks from now. Too busy with important matters like next week's UFO hearings. Too much concentration of supply from just a few plants. Some specialty formulas only produced in this plant. Why the hell hasn't the feds treated medical and critical supplies sourcing as a national security issue? It's not inconceivable that Russian or Iranian or any other terrorist assets could sabotage such a facility. We've only had 21 years of warning to look into such matters, and in fact did create such working groups, but the follow through hasn't been there. While not a major cause of the shortages, it doesn't help that with such known supply disruption issues, the feds have being buying up batches of formula to deal with the huge, and likely record, influx of illegal aliens (possibly 6 million this year.) I dunno, maybe take a pause and enforce the border a bit for a few months until we catch up with some of the supply shortages across the spectrum?

  11. I work full time with the working poor and indigent, so I'm happy to shed some light. Roughly 20% of LA's homeless work in minimum wage jobs. Many work 40 hours a week. At the end of their shift, they go to a gym, take a shower, and hop in their car (if they're lucky) for a good night's sleep. Many families cram together into 1 or 2 bedroom apartments. Back when I used to represent kids in court, it was common to learn that a kid's bed was the living room floor - along with 4-8 other kids in sleeping bags. Sometimes you'd see three families living in a one bedroom, one bathroom. The other option is to live out in San Bernardino or Lancaster and spend 2-3 hours a day commuting. Also, because they don't get paid a living wage, almost all of their existence is subsidized by tax dollars in the form of food stamps and other benefits. So yeah, its a little bit more than just not playing little league or having the newest iphone.

  18. We have a new entry in the "aggy fairy tale of the year" contest. First of all, I'm not recalling any references pointing us to the context of U.S. Army officers being housed en masse with local french families. The story starts to fall apart right there. My memory of American military activities in Normandy during WWII was moving out of there toward first Paris, then Berlin asap. Maybe the Army left aggys behind the lines while the rest of the forces moved forward. regardless, I'm calling bullshit on this. For obvious reasons: "This was posted many years ago and I have searched to no avail. I am going to try and repost from memory in hopes that someone will remember or be able to find the original. As stated, this was many years ago so the details will undoubtedly be flawed, but the story itself is exactly as I remember it: TA Poster: I was recently traveling in the Normandy region of France when something amazing happened to me. I had stopped in at a local bar in the small town of ____ and was having a beer when I noticed an older gentleman a few seats away staring at me. At first, I thought nothing of it, but as it continued, I had to ask if we knew each other. Mind you, I knew no one in France. He said "No" but with a tear in his eye, and now rolling down his cheek, he asked if he could tell me a story. Of course I said yes and here is what he said: "When I was a young boy, our small town, like all of France, was occupied by Nazi soldiers. All of the younger men were gone to fight and so there were only women, us kids, and elderly men. This was a brutal time and the Nazis took whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted and everyone lived in constant fear of being killed, even us kids. Finally the Americans liberated France and the Nazis puled out and the U.S. Army moved in. They announced that their officers would be moving in with the various families in our village. While we were very glad to have the Nazis gone, we were unsure what to think after our recent experiences. A young American officer moved in with my Mother, Grandfather and I and it was unforgettable. He was a true gentleman, respectful of our home, and most of all he was very kind to me. Even though he was only there for a few weeks, he was the greatest hero I had ever known and I idolized him for that. This ring you are wearing (my Aggie ring) is the same ring he wore. I had never seen it before and I have never seen it since until you walked in and sat at the bar today. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory from a terrible time." 19. This is one of those things where if you have an infant you know about it. If your kids have an infant you know about it. Everyone else doesn't really care that much. Besides, this is Texas. Stop complaining and puree some fucking steaks and potatoes and chili and bulk those little fuckers right up.

  22. Gather round kids, let me take you back to Denton in the Spring of 1992. It was very late in the evening, or early in the morning. Somewhere in McConnell Hall, a very hungry Chad Fuck was looking for cheap eats, for...reasons. I happened upon one Ashish [name withheld for further reasons] in the common area. Ashish and I had absolutely nothing in common, except that we were both hungry and had enough pocket change to scrape together to get a couple of burritos from the Taco Bell. I had a car, and it was on. We had common cause for our quest. That Taco Bell spent the next 24 hours turning my insides into its bitch. It was the absolute worst food poisoning I've ever had. It was my own personal Russian invasion of Ukraine, except Russia was a burrito and my lower intestine was Ukraine. In sum, Taco Bell sucks.

  26. Musk's argument is that he prefers slave labor with no hope of advancement, forced to work or starve, to free labor in a country with some ability to advance, making it more expensive and less stable. It's not about hard working vs lazy, it's that he doesn't like a labor force with choices other than do what he expects of them. It's that simple.
