I'm hoping they will too. I want a fucking riot, with burning cars and tear gas and a phalanx of black booted cops with truncheons wading into a crowd of magats. I want a melee just goes absolutely off the fucking rails right when the orange god is walking up the steps to the courthouse. I want some nut to open up with an AR at the cops, and they respond in kind, with orange fuckface caught in the crossfire. I want him choking on tear gas. I want him bleeding from head wounds inflicted by overzealous cops. I want him to suffer broken ribs and fingers from getting trampled by his own insurrectionists as they flee the carnage. That fucker needs to learn, first hand and up close in person, what happens when you incite violence.20 points

If only it were that easy. I am one of those oddballs discussed in the first few posts who is both educated and religious (though Iβm not a paedobaptist, so no funny looks from me about not baptizing your kids). I would be considered to be theologically conservative. I obviously have a completely different worldview from you (and most posters on this board). But Iβm also not part of the βreligious rightβ because I try my best to take what Jesus said seriously. So thereβs a lot of elements that go along with Republican politics or even just a βright wingβ worldview that I cannot abide: pursuing wealth above all else, not taking care of the earth, the idolatry of American nationalism, the use of violenceβ¦I could go on and on. More fundamentally, I donβt believe Christians should pursue worldly power, because we are called to serve rather than to use force. Itβs antithetical to our mission and the methods we should use. I agree with you that Christianity should not be the basis for law; I believe in the separation of church and state. Not only because I donβt believe in coercing you or others, but because Iβm concerned with protecting the church, too, whether from questions about whose version of Christianity is enshrined in law (βIβd give the Devil benefit of law for my own safetyβs sakeβ as Moore says in A Man for All Seasons), or from becoming corrupted in pursuing power and destroying its witnessβ¦which, you know, look around. That ship has sailed. I have been in a position to talk about this with others, to speak on it publicly, to write about it for well over a decade now, to audiences made up largely (though not exclusively) of Republican types, because Iβve been concerned about this from the Christian perspective long before Trump was ever a thing. At best, itβs treated as a sort of eccentricity of mine; at worst, it gets people angry (mostly because they agree with the premises, and then refuse to accept the conclusion). Basically no one is receptive, because their worldview isnβt really Christian, either. They worship the flag, they think America is Godβs Chosen People-look even at the language of soldiers making a sacrifice, the βaltar of freedom,β the capitol as the βtemple of democracyβ etc. The earliest Christians died rather than burn incense to the Emperor; these people would like to have the State punish those who donβt stand for the national anthem. You canβt show people that βyour religion shouldnβt be the basis of law for everyoneβ when that IS their religion.16 points

It feels like more and more we are headed towards theocracy in this country. At the very least, the right are determined to commingle church and state much more. This goes for all religions, but since we are in the US, that mostly means Christianity. They weaponize it for whatever cause and policy they are trying to push on the country. As a father, I am concerned about indoctrination of my kids. I have said it before, but I feel like most religions, including Christianity, are a net negative for humanity. Not only would I be worried my kids could be sexually assaulted, I have daughters and am very worried about how all this bullshit might affect their bodily autonomy and health. Now with all the destruction and take over of the education system, it sometimes feels like soon I will have to explain to my girls that the world isnβt 6,000 years old. I know I am not the only one who feels this way. How is this stopped? Why do yβall on the right insist on pushing your beliefs onto others in the form of policy and law?14 points

What I found anti-LGBTQ is your use of the phrase "protect my daughter" to justify your homophobia / transphobia. Within the context of sports, that makes no sense unless you have her trying out for a contact sport. Maybe she shouldn't do that if you're so concerned about her frail physical nature, but I'm having a hard time thinking which sport would be a danger to her if it involved a transitioned kid. So, you must've been thinking outside of that context when you're saying she needs to be "protected" from LGBTQ people. And, that, Mr. Poe, is offensive because of the implication that they're a danger to her.14 points

Fringe all conference players don't come back to school to compete for their spots, and college coaches don't tend to tinker with where they play high performers simply because it might theoretically help the player's draft grade. There's no one else on the roster that could be reasonably expected to be as good at RT this coming year as Jones was last year. Moving Jones inside was always fanfic.14 points

I honestly don't know what the correct answer wrt sports. Obviously, I acknowledge the biological differences. But, I definitely lean towards it being such a miniscule number, and anything we can do to help these individuals going through hell to feel a better sense of belonging, we should. Poe's worldview where hundreds of cis gender boys men are going to choose to identify as girls--and thus deal with the humiliation, ridicule, and hatred from pieces of shit like him--just to complete in women's sports will never exist, no matter how often his information silo tells him it already does.13 points

There may be a few that go that far but will not be anything anywhere near what happened on 1/6. Most of those people had no idea the legal shitshow they were getting themselves into. They thought it was all fun and games. Now they've seen many of them arrested, jailed, and having to go through expensive trials and they won't want any part of that this time around. They will do what they're best at and just whine like babies online.12 points

Some of my roots into the US fromy mother's side of the family. From L to R, grand uncle, grandfather, great grandfather (the little guy in front of him is another grand uncle) grand aunt and great grandmother. Taken on a ranch somewhere around Del Rio. Seeing as my grandfather was born in 1900 and in this pic he looks to be a teenager, this pic was taken over a hundred years ago. They fled Mexico during the revolution The 2nd pic is the 2 older brothers on the left of the 1st pic. My grandfather is the one on the left.12 points

Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine: The collective posts and comments here are incredibly informative, but left many questions in my mind that didn't connect the dots. Why does Ukraine want to hold Bakhmut so bad? I have taken the liberty to facilitate the discussion and comments related to Bakhmut. So....below are my renderings and Google Earth screen shots of Bakhmut, and the surrounding area. Bakhmut: Red line is the nominal Ukraine-Russia Contact Line, with everything east of the line "held" by Russia. Russia has controlled the 3 sides of Bakhmut for some time, with the sliver to the west controlled by Ukraine. Note the "Bakhmut River", with the tributary to the west, which flows from south to the north. Same map w/ highways. Bakhmut, with the 450' Elevation Line depicting the Bakhmut "valley" and higher ground: The headwaters of the "river" originate in the valleys above the 450' Elevation Line. Everything north of the 450' line area depicted (the straight green line) is a lower elevation than 450', everything west, south and east is higher than 450' (the straight green line is shown for clarity only, this is an open valley descending towards the northeast). Bakhmut, with the 600' Elevation Line (orange line). Bakhmut is in kinda a box canyon open to the north. Bakhmut, with the 750' Elevations: The mains higher elevations to the west, held by Ukraine. The higher elevations to the south and east, held by Russia, are not shown. The highest point I found was 1130', ~ 30ish miles southeast of Bakhmut. 1. Note that almost everything in the valley is within 10 miles of the 750' plateaus to the west. 2. The 750' plateaus to the west are the highest points west for 200+ miles. (Mount Bonnell in Austin is 775' & Lady Bird (Town Lake) is 428'). 3. Note the 600'+ plateau towards the southwest of Bakhmut is mainly cultivated fields, which does rise to ~ 750' towards the base of the triangle towards the southwest. I expect this is where we saw a lot of the videos of Russia vehicular targets along the tree lines and the Orcs/open fodder in the open fields. 4. Bottom line, if you controlled Mount Bonnell and could hit any target in Austin, would you give it up? 5. If you controlled Austin, and were getting shelled from Mont Bonnell on a regular basis, would you stay? 6. Thank you all again for sharing what you know.11 points

I think it's fashionable to think everything is awful now. MCU is awful now, Star Wars is awful now even though we just had the best Star Wars content since Rogue One. Got to drive clicks and being negative is a lot easier to keep the clicks going. If it's so awful and mediocre, why keep watching when there's all this great television out there to watch?11 points

There is a lot to love in this update. God. It's delicious. 1) Hyping the relationship between Petrino and Fisher as football minds. I don't even know if they get out of spring ball before that relationship shows cracks in its foundation. These are two toxic shitheels. 2) Petrino as a "bold OC hire" is typed unironically by Billdo. It was "bold" alright. 3) He glosses fully over the absolute lack of depth at CB and LB. At the same time, he ignores the problem of there not being enough snaps to keep their 4 deep at DL and 3 deep at S happy. I will be flat out shocked if there isn't a major transfer from both areas in May. 4) He talks about how awesome it was only having 1 senior starter by mid-season and then rambles on about veteran leadership with a bunch of guys coming back for a 5th or 6th year. 5) Hyping Weigman while simultaneously hedging that Max Johnson is still there and also has starting experience. 6) The lipstick he paints onto the pig that is their offensive line is colored a very, very deep maroon. He mentions that a backup former TE will be a high round NFL draft pick someday, casually. In the same paragraph, he mentions some guy named Remington Strickland as a real live person getting snaps on the OL and not as the name of a new James Bond villain. He also mentions a bunch of other scrubs and then closes out with the platitude that the aggiest looking aggie ever to wear the uniform, Chase Bisontits, is really turning heads already in offseason conditioning. Right. "Hey, you know who is really exciting folks in the shuttle drill? The new fat OL. You should seem him run a mile or do the long jump, also!"10 points
