Because they have pride in themselves as an institution? Letting him coach the playoffs would be the biggest bitch move I would have ever seen.

Are you saying this because of the supposed ultimatum? Or because he is leaving at all. Employees leave jobs all the time and have a notice period to finish up their work. There’s no bitch move in that. Now if you are saying it’s because of the ultimatum then I agree. But why was there an ultimatum in the first place? Because Ole Miss wouldn’t let him coach.

Insanity to think Kiffin would devote even most of his time to the Ole Miss game prep.

Now he has 100% of his time to devote to LSU. It would have been significantly less than 100%.

If he threatened to raid their staff and players if they didn't let him finish the season, that would have pretty much ended the talks.

Sounds like Kiffin handled this poorly but I still don't understand why Ole Miss put an ultimatum on him in the first place when they were heading for the playoffs.

Because of how he handled this. He could have easily pulled the old coach move of “I’m only thinking about this season and getting ready for the next game. All that stuff is a distraction” and let his agent take calls.

He didn’t have to be a messy bitch who loves drama and shitpoasting on Twitter. His ex-wife and kids could have made it to Baton Rouge quietly-or not at all— instead of flying them to BR on a booster jet. He acted like a messy bitch and created drama because he craves it.

Ole Miss isn’t LSU but it wants to be a program on that level. They can’t publicly let their own coach treat them like a safety school. It’s like a wife who can handle a lot of bullshit but not being disrespected publicly.

Yeah Eric Morris is literally doing this as we speak (assuming they make it). It's not a bitch move to recognize someone has other goals and still work together to finish things right. The ultimatum was dumb especially coming from a position of weakness. The only caveat was that maybe they were just sick of him behind the scenes, who knows

No you have to get him out the door now! That way he won't know who the players and coaches are!? THAT'S INSIDER INFORMATION!

lol what the fuck?

He's the one who hired/recruited all those people. He knows who they are, who he wants, and how to contact them. And most of them probably want to go with him anyway.

Yeah, I thought flying them to Baton Rouge was stupid, too. It's only 350 miles away from Oxford. Long drive, but they avoid the flight trackers and drama.

Counter-point.  The SEC loves this because it makes for great coverage, not only now but in the years to come.

This isn't as fun if Kiffin decided to take his talents to Penn State.

No one worth fuckin at Penn State. But point taken.

Again, I'm not necessarily defending Kiffin, because I don't even really like him, but I haven't interpreted the recent events as Kiffin handling it poorly. Maybe I don't have all the information, but from my perspective he had to decide by the end of the regular season because that is what LSU required. He was respectful yesterday by not muddying up the final game of the season by Ole Miss with his employment status.  He's in an impossible position and has offered the best possible soluiton to Ole Miss, coach thru the playoffs to try and win it all. And having his family fly to Baton Rouge on a booster jet is unneccesary drama? Please. That's ridiculous. Is there some other drama I've missed?

His son was wearing LSU headphones in an instagram post a few days ago along with his daughter posting pics at an LSU women’s club meeting.

I agree with the ultimatum forcing there to be a problem, but once they made that move and then he said he was leaving, then allowing him to coach the playoffs is not a reasonable decision.

Not if you are an exec, especially if you are going to your competitor. Any exec will have all his paperwork done with the new place and will inform his employer fully expecting an immediate escort to the door. A typical engineer gives a 2 weeks notice and gets a chance to wrap up work and attend goodbye lunches. An exec is in meetings the whole day with company sensitive data and no one will feel comfortable with him/her in there.

But an HC is different. He is not just an exec but the whole team. It is better to keep the team to meet your critical goals. For Ole Miss, it is mostly just pride and maybe bluffing with a very weak hand.

Yeah if they are so angry they ain’t letting him coach no more (whether ppl agree or disagree if it was the right thing for Ole Miss to do) I assume they wouldn’t allow him to talk to the team either. And he probably should get out of the entire state and not look back. He won’t be welcome. And only allowed into the state if his new team is playing. The hate will build like a fire ball.

Not defending him either and we don't know the full story but y'all know Kiffin wasn't the one publicizing most of this shit right? It was the media covering his family's flights TMZ-style, Ole Miss giving an ultimatum, everyone in the media asking him what he's gonna do, etc. Short of straight-up lying, not sure how he could've possibly taken attention away from it.

It sounds like he handled this weekend extremely poorly but it seems like most of the stuff before now has been other peoples' fault.

I promise you that Jimmy Sexton was behind the media circus and the ESPN fellatio and that yes, sending your (EX!)- wife to “tour Baton Rouge” lol on a private jet was absolutely intended to be very public.

Well, as a very senior exec who has done it myself, and having seen other critical senior execs do it, that doesn't always happen. But yes, most of the time they are walked out immediately.  But your point about the HC being the whole team is why I'm arguing that they should have let him do it. When a normal company senior exec is leaving, there is plenty of infrastructure and resources in place to go on without significant risk of having a terrible near-term result.  A head coach leaving most of the time torpedoes a team's chances, except for Michigan basketball Fab Five.

However, all of this may be a moot point. Given that Ole Miss just announced Golding as the permanent head coach, then it is now completely clear why they couldn't let Kiffin coach. They've got their permanent new coach and they immediately now need to go to war with Kiffin to keep as many players and coaches as possible. I totally get Ole Miss's move now.

I really don't understand leaving. Get a raise from Ol Miss and become a local legend. Alternative, go to LSU and possibly get fired in 3 years

No way LSU can afford to buy out Kiffin in three years while dealing with BK payout.

They hitched their wagon to Lane come good or bad.

For what purpose, though?

Create a bidding war with Florida? Squeeze Ole Miss for a raise? Both?

Also, Ole Miss trying to get a „stay or go” answer is extremely rational. Look at all the up and coming G5 coaches they never interviewed because of Lane’s bullshit. A Sumrall or Golesh would have taken that call.

Because the idea that the school is any more loyal than Lane himself is a fiction. We love to talk about how there aren't any expectations, but that's horseshit. He turns in a few 4-win seasons and that "local legend" shit is out the window and all the pussy-hounding they've been hiding starts coming out in social media. Look at our forum after Sark loses to Florida and his team has to fight in OT to beat bottom-feeders. These fanbases will set coaches on fire for losing or close-to-losing.

You bite the apple while it's there.

To get the howling message board masses at three football crazed schools to demand Lane or no one and drive that contract as stupid as possible.

Yes, they still are Louisiana State University and Argricultural & Mechanical College

Kiffin's annual jabs at Texas aggy will be fun!

Sure, but go get a Jimbo level guaranteed contract. It seemed like Ole Miss was willing to give him everything he wanted.

yea i dont either, Cushy job youll never get fired from or pressured to be a top 2-3 team yearly, theyre content with top 10 and a playoff spot + big win over bama or georgia...

He wants the inherent advantages of LSU's recruiting and prestige. He doesn't have those at Ole Miss and the NIL money is easier to get at LSU.
