Presidential message on Ramadan

Quote

With the rising of tonight’s moon, I send my greetings and best wishes to all Muslims observing Ramadan in the United States and around the world.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Quran to the prophet Muhammad through fellowship and prayer.  Many observe this holy time by fasting, performing acts of charity, reciting prayers, and reading the Quran.

Ramadan is a time of self-reflection intended to deepen one’s spiritual growth and renew a sense of appreciation for the many blessings God provides.  In this spirit of thanksgiving and reflection, those observing Ramadan can strengthen our communities, help those in need, and serve as good examples for how to live a holy life.

Ramadan reminds us of the richness Muslims add to the religious tapestry of American life.  In the United States, we are all blessed to live under a Constitution that fosters religious liberty and respects religious practice.  Our Constitution ensures Muslims can observe Ramadan in accordance with the dictates of conscience and unimpeded by government.  By doing so, the Constitution also furnishes varied opportunities for all Americans to deepen their understanding of the human soul.

As so many people unite to celebrate Ramadan, Melania and I join in the hope for a blessed month.  Ramadan Mubarak.

It would be an interesting social experiment to take 1000 Trumptards, and tell half of them the above statement was from Trump, and the other half the statement was from Obama. And then ask for a critique.

It wouldn’t be interesting...it would be 100% predictable and depressing.

I think people who still support Trump are outright delusional at this point. Recently had dinner with a large PE fund CEO and he swears that Trump is bringing people to the table with his negotiation style. He is playing adavance chess and winning.

The whole table was looking at him with wtf face but said nothing.

Trumpism all boils down to this: be the worst human being possible.  Lie.  Be greedy.  Be a hypocrite.  Fuck over those in need.  It’s hedonism for assholes.

It’s also high irony that the vast majority of these shitbags proclaim to be Christian.  If there’s any consistent teaching of Christ, it is to put the needs of others above those of yourself.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Trumpkins once Trump is out of power and the hubris, arrogance, and attention magnet aspect of the God Emperor is suddenly removed. Like suddenly turning down the blaring radio everyone is the car is singing along with.

Or maybe waking up naked on someone's front lawn to the neighbors' recording you after a particularly insane party.

Absolutely.   Under Trump the derangement is from the supporters, not opponents.   And the deranged think the sane are the delusional ones.   Everything is upside down.

Don't conflate Jesus' teachings with what "Christians" believe.

As and EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN and a Trump voter I can tell you that Jesus would have voted for Trump and then right after that brought about the Rapture because we moved the embassy to Jerusalem and then our beloved president would be in heaven building a wall to keep the Mexicans out. God bless.

I wondered something similar after Bush/Cheney. I thought surely we'd learned our lesson. Surely there was no way to move even more to the right. Yet here we are.

I can't rule out the possibility that it will happen again. If we ever elect a president farther right of Trump then we probably will have witnessed our last election.

Cool. Trump filed his financial form so in a few days we will know which story he decided to go with about Stormy.

Spoiler

President Trump filed public financial disclosure forms Tuesday following revelations he reimbursed Michael Cohen the $130,000 his personal lawyer paid porn star Stormy Daniels as part of a nondisclosure agreement.

Related documents would become available through the Office of Government Ethics, White House deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters said in a statement.

The Office of Government Ethics confirmed via Twitter it had received the report, adding they were "currently under review."

Federal executive branch employers are required to make certain public disclosures annually in order to be transparent about their financial interests.

Trump has been reluctant about sharing his financial information, most notably his tax returns during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Tuesday's submission could shed light Trump's financial position, as well as whether he repaid Cohen the $130,000 sum given to Daniels in 2016 in exchange for her staying silent about her sexual encounter with the president more than a decade ago.

Trump had previously denied the affair and the payment until personal attorney Rudy Giuliani told Fox News on May 2 the president had reimbursed Cohen in transactions "funneled through a law firm."

Giuliani later told the New York Times Trump repaid Cohen a total of $470,000 in $35,000 increments over a period of several months for incidentals costs incurred through Cohen's legal work.

Trump did not disclose his arrangement with Cohen in previous public financial disclosure reports lodged with the Office of Government Ethics.

But hedonism has a good side... And most hedonists arrive at ethical hedonism eventually, unless they are just clearly hypocrites. I don't think Trump is even hedonistic, as he can't even be enjoying this... He's not even clearly self-evident enough to understand his own happiness.

John Wooden, perhaps the best basketball coach of all-time, once led his UCLA Bruins to 88 straight wins over three seasons in the early 1970s, still an NCAA men’s record. That streak, plus 10 national championships, earned him the nickname: the “Wizard of Westwood.”

If President Donald Trump has more win streaks like his present one, he might well become known as the “Wizard of Washington.” From the economy to important victories across the vast Asian continent, America is winning under Trump’s leadership.

He should be happy as hell that he won, given that he lost the popular vote, but he (his ego) can’t enjoy it so he prattles on about Hillary and rigged voting.

i'll recount an event at least thirty years ago when we were visited by two aging members of my family.  the wife of the visiting couple was famous for her hatred of the beatles.  i knew well how she usually set her opinions.  she and her sisters would discuss something and decide what was right.  after that, there was no way to get one of them to reconsider.

so i set up a little experiment.  i got her alone and asked her to listen to some music i had put together on a cassette tape.  it was my fave early beatles songs, but of course i didn't tell her that.  actually, i was curious whether there was something about them that she (and her sisters?) truly didn't like.  so i played norwegian wood, eleanor rigby, girl, and maybe another song or two.  she loved it until she asked who the group was.  i thought surely that this would illustrate to her that she should learn to not trust her and her sisters' half-baked opinions so completely, but that didn't happen.  she wouldn't talk to me most of the rest of that day.

that really shook me up.  i had never experienced how completely closed those minds can be.  i believe very strongly (but am open to reconsideration) that the problem group we call trumpies are actually this sub-group of america that was instrumental (due to their mindless hatred of england) in our becoming a nation.

many, many aspects of these people are good.  it's just that they are twisted in ways they can never leave behind.  the hope is to reach the youngsters, but every time you pass a christian school you are passing one of their indoctrination centers.

That and the Dems were dumb enough to run Hillary.

Remember, the group that elected Trump was not able to elect a bonafide war hero or successful businessman over a black guy named Barrack Hussein Obama.

These people did not come out nowhere and say "hey, I think I'll elect a liberal from New York who was friends with the Clintons and cheated on multiple wives and bragged about taking women against their will while his wife was pregnant".

They needed Hillary Clinton in order for Trump to win, because they couldn't get it done against the son of a Kenyan.

I sometimes think this is what really bugs Trump about his win and about losing the popular vote.  I think he knows that without Hillary running, he doesn't have a chance, and that bugs the shit out of him.

oh, i totally agree.  that was spectacular arrogance, though, not stupidity.

one day not too distant this nation will celebrate the arrogance that put hillary on the ticket.  lacking that, this festering sore that had been undetected by the populace since at least when rupert murdoch graced us with his fetid presence would still be growing in secrecy.  hillary on the ticket tipped the scale too soon for the group that would give all to overthrow this nation.

Let's meet in the middle and say it was ignorance on the part of the Dems then.

Many of us who were aware of politics in the 90s remember how hated Hillary was, but her supporters forgot that little fact.

The Trump defenders seem to think that this investigation is about news cycles, as if we're way past the Trump Jr. emails and the meeting at Trump Tower mattering. They are a smoking gun for collusion by top campaign officials.  The only question is the extent of their involvement and whether and how much Trump himself can be tied to it.

This was reported on six months ago.  It was George, Ike's son.  My guess is that he didn't have any special insight on it, but saw it on the news and gave his honest interpretation of it.  But it is possible that Ike had talked to him about the meeting,  and father and son realized the legal jeopardy involved.

oh, yes, i absolutely agree there was a huge slice of ignorance pie smeared on the dem faces, as well.  they completely misunderstood their standing, but i believe hillary was a particularly strong inureface candidate for them.  the dems were fat and sassy and had sat on their thumbs for eight years.  they had their comeuppance coming.

have i mentioned previously that i wish to see both major parties get the royal flush?  neither benefits this nation.
