The way Abbott keeps upping the game with each new action being a little bolder and fascist than the last is apparently their plan to normalize their shit.  Same with Trump and his lies.  For some reason if he can tell a larger whopper today, then the slightly smaller one he told yesterday doesn't seem so bad and is just accepted.  Abbott said it best when he said, "It could have been worse."  Just sums up the whole thing.  We begin to accept the crap they say and do, because each day they prove that indeed 'it could be worse.'   It's like with Hitler and his gradual taking of territories and countries in Europe.  Everyone knows it could be worse, but do we rise up against him and bring it to a head now, or do we give him what he wants now and hope he's happy with it?  We have been Chamberlains for too long now, we are going to need a Churchill for keeping our democracy.
At first, I thought it had to do with his need for attention, as it is in Trump's case.  But there is a thing in people that needs to dominate over others however they can.  It makes them feel superior and they find places like churches, KKK, Rotary clubs, whatever to share their ideals and actions.  The internet just made finding and joining these kinds of groups easier, and took them nationwide, if not globally.
I don't know how to counter that, and maybe I am seeing it wrong, but deep in all this I can't help but suspect the hands and money of a very elite group of monied people are inventing these groups and stirring a certain side up with hate rhetoric.  Whether that money is American or Russian or possibly both, it would be difficult to prove.    They are doing exactly what they accuse of Soros.  Every accusation is an admission, right?
I don't have the answers, sometimes I just write things out to try to see if it makes sense to anyone else, and maybe someone has some ideas on how to combat all this shit.

You combat it with violence. That’s how these things end.
When one side insists on inflicting and normalizing violence (and that’s EXACTLY what this pardon does: it says that violence in furtherance of the regime’s favored causes is ok), then eventually…violence becomes fully normalized as the means to accomplish…everything.
This is how they want it. It’s a stupid thing to want, they will end up being just as victimized by it as those they currently hate, but they’ve chosen it. Once that path is committed - and trust me, we are fully committed to it - then it ends in blood. A lot of it.
I’m just hoping that I can finish making my money and GTFO before it gets me or one of mine. But I sure as shit don’t want either of my kids ever to come back here.

Those antisemite weirdo students at UT protesting in support of Hamas got off fucking easy.
Next time...

Correct. The die has been cast, the precedent has been firmly established. Kill for the regime, be protected and rewarded.

This state already had law enforcement who was willing to look the other way when dozens of trucks with Trump flags surrounded and harassed a bus carrying Democratic campaign staffers.

We also have counties where Republican election officials have resigned purely for fear of being assassinated by these yahoos in their own party.

Now we’re signing off on *murder*!!!!!  How crazy is that?   I mean, we had an impartial jury of TEXANS and witnesses and a trial….   And it’s not like there’s some new DNA evidence or a whistleblower reporting prosecutorial misconduct… it’s just, “we’re gonna let the convicted murderer out because we like his politics.”

… And he’s free to go to Cabelas tomorrow and buy a fucking assault rifle.

Lunacy.

Extra judicial murder is ok as long as it’s not a conservative who gets killed.

And if the judicial system somehow fails and convicts, elected officials will then intervene.

Which leads to the oppressed carrying out retaliation once they know they don't have equal protection under the law.

Look at the Troubles in N. Ireland to see how this can turn into a cycle of escalating violence.

The state has a monopoly on violence for a reason. Remove that and everyone has their own reason to initiate violence.

Bingo. It’s why this path isn’t just homicidal, it’s suicidal. Which makes it breathtakingly stupid, but we are SO committed to “breathtakingly stupid” we might as well stamp it on our coinage.

Apologies, I often forget many on this board don’t live in Houston where a significant amount of violent crimes are committed by people out on laughably low bonds. Most recently, the UT alum attorney and friend to many here who was killed last week.

He’s arguing self-defense, as after the argument had spilled outside the attorney did push him to the ground. Let’s see if “stand your ground” applies the same way.

This is just an incredibly stupid post. Even by your standards this is dumb. Do you know the difference between convicted and charged? This man was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law by jury of his peers. Do you believe in the idea of innocent until proven guilty? It’s a core principle of this country’s legal system. Maybe you would prefer Russia

I've been thinking about this for the last 24 hours.  It's really gotten under my skin. This really does represent a new low.

How many murders happen in our state every year?  Over 2000.  Clearance rate? 70%.  How many pardons for those 1400 people? 1, as far as I can tell.

Two guys meet on the street.  Both armed.  One shoots the other.  Justified? Murder? Who knows?  A 12 person jury is the way you determine that.  And they determined that here.  Abbott said this is the single one the jury got wrong.  I PROMISE you the political beliefs of the victim played into this decision.

Abbott doesn't know this guy from Adam.  He just knows that the state will smile on him for eliminating someone associated with a political belief that is out of favor.

Fatty thinks its wrong to convict a conservative for murdering liberals. Even a conservative pedophile, though perhaps I'm being redundant.  Because he thinks it is good for people like him to kill people like us.

I just like that these guys are a-ok with the precedent of “murders of those not favored by the regime will not face consequences.” Will they still be ok with it in blue states? Do they think “yes, that’s a good way to govern?” I’d like an answer to those questions.
We won’t get any such answers, of course, because the Fatties of the world are intellectually dishonest cowards, but you know, thought I’d ask.

  • The guy who was killed was legally carrying and also a military veteran, and was technically the one standing his ground since the killer drove into the area.
  • The guy who was killed was not texting underaged girls, but the killer was.
  • The guy who was killed was not wanting to go to Dallas to "shoot some looters", but the killer was.
  • The guy who was killed was not saying that it's ‘too bad we can’t get paid for hunting Muslims, but the killer was.

Yep.  At least Rittenhouse has the decency to not be texting any teenage girls, ever.  And at least brought a med kit to the killing floor.

I don't know that there is an action against this criminal anti-republic organization that I would condemn.

I'm still shocked that we are here. I believe what I see and hear, but I am still shocked by some of it.

Crude, but I  don't give a shit. This is the face of wickedness.

It's something else to read the early posts of the DT thread about the shooting - it's the exact same fucking rhetoric from the same shitty right wing posters cheering on protesters being brutalized by DPS. I was just at a professional conference here in Austin. Talked to a couple of people who are retiring. Talked to a few others about their retirement plans. Talked to many others about their kids and their plans.

All of them are outside Texas.

i don’t think people are prepared for the serious brain drain this state is going to suffer over the next decade.

In Texas - always, always shoot first and shoot to kill. Bullets center mass until they hit the ground. Take cover, never turn your back on the person that endangered your life. Be sure the person that endangered your life has zero chance of shooting from the ground before calling cops or let someone else call the cops. They may be faking to get a chance to kill you while laying on the ground. When cops show up, weapons on ground, hands up. Follow the officer’s instructions. Identify yourself. Do not answer questions
