My bet is Abbott has been promising Musk the world in order for SpaceX to be the first company in the future Texas stock market. This includes looking the other way about any environment concerns and draining South Texas of even more water for his lithium plant in Robstown (Corpus.)  This last topic is one that is woefully ignored by the general media.

I would imagine that the emails are very direct in Abbott selling Texas out. And I'm not even considering how Abbott himself could be potentially benefiting from these arrangements.

no way in hell robstown has enough water for that facility

This is why they need Choke Canyon to have more water, and convince farmers and residents that filtered fracking water is perfectly healthy.

The emails they don’t want to release probably contain Abbott and Elon talking shit about dotard.

I think Abbott was asking if Elon liked his penis implant.

Abbott will try to redistrict Jasmine out of her seat in his special call session..

Can’t she do a MTG and rep a solid blue district that she doesn’t live in?

This sounds like bullshit. Can one of the lawdogs read the actual bill and chime in? Dorms are on campus. There are evening classes on campus. The libraries are open at night. Small group rooms in Welch and RLM are open at night for group study. The fucking union ia open at night. Come on

Some pretty gnarly stuff, and yes, it does appear to prohibit

"expressive activities on campus between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.;"

https://legiscan.com/TX/text/SB2972/id/3249738

Great swaths of these amendments seem pretty prima facie unconstitutional as well as ludicrous.  At least under oldlaw.

From WaPo:

And any expressive activity between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. is off-limits altogether.

Though each restriction raises potential First Amendment issues, this last one is perhaps the most concerning. State law defines “expressive activity” as “any speech or expressive conduct protected by the First Amendment” — speeches, writing, art, symbolic actions, even just talking to your friends. It’s problematic enough that legislators seek to prohibit nighttime or early-morning protest activity, but the language could affect late-night art events, student journalists, and even assigned research, course or thesis work for students or faculty in the habit of burning the midnight oil. The new law is so absurdly broad it could theoretically be used to stop a group of students from discussing politics on a campus bench at night. That’s not security; it’s suppression.

I'm sure Sark and Miller will just roll over and tell all the attendees at nighttime football and basketball games to clam up at 10 PM pronto.

This is fucking nuts.

That’s actually a great idea. People should call the cops right at 10 pm if the first night game and demand the law be enforced at DKR

I'm sure SCOTUS will rule that, while the law is constitutional in suppressing theater, study groups, etc. it doesn't apply to sporting events.

Yeah I’m sure those will even be protected. It will somehow be ruled applicable only to certain groups at the discretion of Abbott.

To be fair, after the NC State game Mack really shored up his special teams for the rest of his tenure and then became OU’s bitch.

You two assholes decided that the current state of our country isn't dark enough, so you figured you would do your part to make it 10% worse. Thanks.

Further debasing of our degrees.

Texas is going to offer degrees in only two things: Petroleum Engineering, and MAGA studies, within a decade.

Wow.  Those two are wholely unqualified to lead ACC let alone the UT system.

Jim Davis, the Garfield guy?

I hate Mondays.

Davis, who previously worked for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and has no prior teaching experience, has been an active interim president, consulting with the UT System’s board of regents on the recent hiring of a provost. He selected William Inboden for the role, who is the director of the GOP-backed civics center at the University of Florida.

lot of weak sauce.

His departure prompted the appointment of Zerwas, then the system’s executive vice chancellor for health affairs, to take over the role.

Zerwas, who is a doctor, represented Fort Bend County in the Texas House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019. He spent part of that time as chair of the House Higher Education Committee.

I foresee a time where the University has become so MAGA that I won’t be able to justify ticket costs, LFD donations etc.

I’ll still watch on tv but I’ll feel better about where my dollars are going.

How could they leave out his Garfield experience? That might be his best qualification.
