I may be wrong on Tesla and they just built the new plant in Austin.  Frito Lay and Toyota North America are all in Plano near JC Penny and Dr. Pepper.  The PGA is also moving to Frisco, TX for their national headquarters.

I think Tesla moved it's HQ to Austin in an accounting trick/tax loophole when Elon moved to Austin (or will be doing this soon); I know for a fact Oracle did this.

Also @Lobo not knowing JCP was HQ'ed in Texas, at your age and your alleged business acumen in the state, seems off brand and out of character, as you seem to know a lot of off-kilter factoids and obscure references.

I swear some of you have been living under rocks for the last 30 years. There is zero, zip, fucking nada evidence that they will pay any kind of political price for this bullshit.

Sorry to disappoint you man, I don't know the domicile of every single large publicly traded company in the United States nor can I rattle off every single one that's HQ'd in Texas.  You just tacitly admitted that such a knowledge would be off-kilter and obscure.  If a fact is off-kilter and obscure, it won't be known by everyone, even those who command those mental databases.  Knowing only a handful of them and being able to deploy them when appropriate, that's the trick.  If I knew all the public companies, that just makes me an asshole version of Rain Man.

Besides, everybody knows......I'm a Stein Mart Man and Dan Patrick is a Kohl's Man.

Back to abortion-----the verification of a woman's pregnancy date is also curious to me out of logistical concerns.  Does the six week clock start at the first day of her last period or will it begin sometime after that?  I'm wondering how easily the dates can be fudged?  You could buy a woman up to 4 additional weeks to obtain an elective D&C.  There is also some wiggle room with regard to what is and what is not a potential threat to the mother's health.  There is already talk today at UT System hospitals/affiliated doctors about how they can work around this draconian mandate.  Not saying it's good, bad, or indifferent.  Just that we all knew this would happen.  These physicians and nurses are aware that the alternatives in many cases are black market or Mexico for many women.

Pregnancy is calculated from day of last menstrual cycle.  It's therefore nearly impossible for a woman to know she's pregnant before at least 4 weeks.

Abortion is very personal.  A lot of moderate women have had or know someone who have had one.

Just because a bunch of old white men in the Lege and a few Karens want to restrict it does not mean everyone does.  There's a surprising number of GOP women in the suburbs who are okay with it, within reason.  6 weeks is not reasonable.

This is and isn't the left's fault. This is and isn't Bernie bros' fault. This is and isn't centrist-shitlibs' fault. While some leftists refused to vote for Hillary, most did vote for her. Meanwhile you had people like Neal fucking Katyal, the goddamned legal star of the center-left, writing articles in support of Neil Gorsuch, and to this day elected Democrats have fucking dawdled and delayed and been too fucking quiet about the actual goddamned insurrection, when Congressional Republicans tried to have them, specifically them, murdered.

Even today, very few people left of the far right have recognized the nature of the threat we face, so everyone shares some responsibility. But it is first and foremost the goddamned Republicans' fault. They are a criminal conspiracy composed nearly entirely of religious fanatics who are determined to destroy American democracy and subjugate the rest of us, if not kill us all. So stop pointing fucking fingers at each other.

It isn't so much finger pointing as it is math.  While not solely responsible, obviously, the Bernie Bro contingent absolutely contributed to that result.  And after what happened to Sanders in West Virginia, they had every right to feel jaded.  But a big part of that progressive wing, for whatever reason, has a documented tendency to lash out at those who agree with them on 90% of their pet issues in favor of rewarding those who categorically disagree with them 100% across the board.  People have pleaded with them to stop that stupid bullshit to no avail.  And here we are.

"Please stop advocating this protest/no show bullshit.  It's going to lead to horrific results."

"Well, we're fuckin' gonna.  Suck it, Establishment!"

"See.  Do you now see how this led to horrific results?"

"Seems harsh to blame some of this on us."

But will that cause them to actually change their votes? No. The answer is no. Those same people are probably not super jazzed about, say, license-free open carry, either.

But Biden! And socialism! AOC! Antifa! Wokeness! The same old tired shit will be used to scare them back into line.

I know that and you know that because we are probably the kinds of beta cucks that went to every OB/GYN appointment from the very start   but people like Dan Patrick who just takes his wife at face value when she swears it's his baby, don't understand that the clock starts ticking 4 weeks before most women even think to pick up the phone to make an appointment at the OBGYN.  What's more, by the time they get into see the doctor and get an accurate idea of how far along they are, it's already well beyond 6 weeks.

Which maybe was the whole point all along.

Let's get another frightening reality out there...........doctors are sometimes just as bad about letting their religion and politics spill over into their practice as elected officials are.  There's gonna be that window between weeks 4-6 when there's some ambiguity.  We got pregnant 4 times for sure, possibly 5.  Every time, nurse on the phone asked "when was the start of your last period."  And that date was stamped in bold on the top of our paperwork when we went in days/weeks later to see the OBGYN.  It's a matter of medical course that they ask and record that and then verify against what they see on bloodwork and sonogram.

So here's the shitty reality...those doctors that can't keep their religion/politics outta their practice...they're going to have their staff ask that question just as they always have.  And if the woman if that woman is not known to the practice (having already had baby with that group)..........her appointment will be throttled down so that she can't come in until after week 6 is complete.

Watch.  Suddenly half the practices in rural/exurban Texas won't have any appointment availability until 2-3 weeks AFTER the woman's declared date of her last period from her first phone call.  By the time she knows what's going on, it'll be too late to go to a Planned Parenthood or free clinic facility.

This is the truth and will always remain that way.  No matter what the Republicans do they can scare their sheep into voting for them with dog whistles about minorities coming after their jobs/neighborhoods/children, crime, socialism, etc...  They lap it up and will vote R again and again.  This is why Abbott, Cruz, Cornyn, etc... will continue to be elected even as Houston floods from Hurricanes and the rest of the state freezes to death during the winter.

Its anonymous. Lovely. Simple lovely.

If the phone line keeps getting spammed Texas can go the auxiliary reporting system of just firing three consecutive gunshots through the ceiling.  If you wish to use the auxiliary reporting system but live in an apartment with upstairs neighbors you will be required to report with FIVE gunshots through the ceiling.  If you witness a citizen failing to properly abide the 3 or 5 gunshot rule you can report them to authorities by firing ten consecutive gunshots through the ceiling.  If you're driving a vehicle and need to report someone you can utilize the mobile auxiliary method which is firing three shots out of the driver side window or directly through the windshield.

I know this is crazy, but maybe the Democratic party could give them an affirmative reason to vote for them, rather than simply a reason to vote against Republicans. Some in the party have finally figured that out, but it's still only like 10% of them.

This is completely sad, but also true. It wouldn't be a surprise to me at all, at all.

FTR, I had irregular cycles prior to becoming pregnant with our first and was  eight (I think?) weeks along before given the test at the doctor's office when visiting for something else. The rest were similar.

In addition to the miscarriage scenario, which is just absolutely abhorrent that someone would force a women into court to defend or the rape/incest scenario which again, is absolutely abhorrent, it drags us back into Nathaniel Hawthorne territory with a public besmirching, shaming, criminalizing, and financially breaking a woman by having her stand before a judge with the letter A for Abortion stamped on her forehead. None of the anonymous Dimmesdales will ever suffer a moment's reflection for their Puritanical fervor nor a pang of regret when they turn and walk away after a birth.

I think maybe it shifts, but it's further out than I once hoped.

The demographics of people moving here is not as Blue as people like to believe. In my limited personal sample size it's pretty even,, maybe Red. Studies support that. And it's not just Olds that vote R. Every day more redneck kids are taught to be rednecks. And thier values are not old school gop moderate, its full Maga. And they outbreed progressives. Travel outside the people's republic of austin sometime. It's eye opening.

Who is going defeat Abbot in 2024?
Whose on the bench 2026?

I understand what you're saying, but maybe today's ruling from the SC could be an affirmative, giant, motherfucking bombshell of a reason to vote for them.

It's still just a reason to vote against Republicans. The Democrats actually exercising power to do anything at all in response to this ruling would be giving them a reason to vote for them.

Recent history has also shown that today's electorate is by far the dumbest flock of assholes in all of history.

It's the same mixture of smart, medium, and dumb as it's always been.  The difference is the formerly marginalized dumb demographic has not only been brought out from the shadows, they've been put in charge.

Just another piece of evidence in the "SCOTUS IS AN IMPORTANT REASON TO VOTE DEM EVERY PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION" file

See: Citizens United, Voting Rights Act, Voting Rights Act 2: Electric Boogaloo, Texas abortion law, Exxon, Kelo, NFIB, Connick, etc.

Along with voter suppression of anyone remotely off-white, that's the Texas GOP's secret sauce - getting the Clevons out to vote.

Chicken and egg theory.  The Democrats wouldn't be required to exercise that power in response to that ruling if other democrats hadn't thrown a tantrum in 2016.  Those who want the DNC to take a more progressive lean should absolutely pursue that.  But it's infantile to get angry and resentful that a sea change doesn't appear overnight and punitively reward the opposition.  But I could be wrong.  Maybe a 6 - 3 fundamentalist majority court for the remainder of our lives and half of our children's life is a magical, well thought out plan that will bring quality results that just haven't occurred to me yet.

I will often stop by a J.C. Penney on my way through the mall to get to Foley's.  Invariably I get distracted at Sam Goody Records or Walden Books.  What's annoying though is having to double back to J.C. Penney because their prices on stonewashed jeans are better than anything Chess King can match.

Also does J.C. Penney's HQ in Texas really count since it's literally closed down?

Okay, back to abortions.  somebody create a tracker of how often a woman calls into certain OB/GYN practices because she's pregnant.  They ask for date of her first period.  Then you track what's the earliest appointment they give her to come in for a more complete exam.  See which practices throttle down open dates based on her quoted date.  I hate to assume this ugliness is coming, but we all know it is.

To the “it will never change in Texas here” crowd, how many senators in Arizona and Georgia are republicans now? You can make it harder to vote but they can’t eliminate it.

Also the Texas Republican Party has so fucked up here now I normally wouldn’t be surprised if hot wheels called another special session to fix this mess.

But he won’t because the republicans are so fucking insane now that he’d lose in the battshit insane GQP primary if he did that.

Good.
