5 safeties and 6 WRs in the top 25. Those are probably the 2 easiest positions in college football to recruit/find in the portal. Good work On3

no offense but hard to lend credence to the idea that a bunch of guys going to duke, vandy, tech and arkansas are top 25 players in texas.  I mean, it's cute to be contrarian but wtf?  kobe black as 16 in state when he's a consensus 5 star?

are we going to get any on3 info as to why some of these guys dropped?

I haven't been following this cycle as closely as years past, so this is a bit uninformed.

Did any of our commits do the camp circuit? This would absolutely be the update where on3 credits camp performances because they can rebalance in the fall, and the movement appears to be "new data", as opposed to re-evaluating tape and adjusting to reflect their offers. If it were the latter, the IDLs that Gerry swears aren't 3*s would have shot up

Per On3, the number one IOL in the country ... is a guy from Texas, named Casey Poe.  Offers/visits - Bama, Georgia, Clemson, etc.. Looks Bama bound.  We didn't offer him.

image.thumb.png.ff907c15e8d6d55febe8bb6cfe1b022c.png

And that Aggie QB commit - Miles?  Went from unranked to #58 overall (#6 QB).

that's an eye watering jump for a guy whose best offers are PSU, A&M and Michigan State and who has taken OVs to A&M, MSU and BC (including 2 OVs after the A&M commit)

There is a thread on IT. Apparently the On3 rankings overvalue physical characteristics, i.e. height, weight, hand size, vertical, arm length of prospects compared to where players with similar physical attributes were drafted. The On3 personnel stupidly think they are going to determine the NFL draft instead of how these kids will project and perform at the college level. It makes watching tape and HS production meaningless.

There is a thread on IT trashing their own rankings?

Edit: they do indeed, at least Nahlin is posting about "how On3 operates."

That isnt true. I pointed out how heavy WR and Safety is in the Texas top 25. You can add 3 RBs in that top 25. That is not how the draft works. You have 3 safeties over the top 2 Cbs. That does not happen in the draft. 14 of the top 25 play Safety, WR, and RB. That is not how the draft looks. There is 0 thought into positional value and scarcity. I have not seen all these players, so I can not say that recruit X is better than Y, but I can tell you that 56% of the players drafted in the 2024 class from Texas will not come from those positions.

Yep, former 247 guys trying to do the same stupid shit at On3.

Also because they’re a new site they could be senstitive to any appearance of favoritism. And they almost certainly want a piece of the aggy market.

The aggys keep repeating the lie that On3 is crown jewel in the BOMC, so they hammer UT commits to show they’re impartial.

You can think what you’d like but Bobby said they’re modeling the On3 rankings similar to NFL draft.

I told you guys about this already. The On3 guys doing the rankings, none of whom are involved with IT, believe that guys involved with UT should lose value because “Texas doesn’t develop talent” and they don’t want to be viewed as bad evaluators when classes are reviewed down the line and Texas has a highly rated class that didn’t produce.

The two main guys went out of their way to move Manning down in the final 2023 rankings to be “ahead of the curve” when he doesn’t materialize as a star. That logic is fucked in all kinds of ways.

Anyway, the bad news is that Texas is always going to ultimately rank lower in class rank because of this shit taking hold across the industry. The good news is that some of the UT 3 stars and 4 stars will honestly be underranked.

That kind of thinking will likely be short lived after this season. If we have 10+ guys drafted off the team, then I don't see where that argument can be made.

Damn. 995ers have figured out how to become even bigger fucktards if true. Impressive. Also, they're Leon O'Neal slow if they make that adjustment right when we're putting guys in the NFL again after a decade of ineptitude.

I’ve previously posted on this and said it sounded aggie-ish, but I heard it from people who would know what the fuck is going on in the industry. There’s logic with why it is a thing that isn’t “they don’t like us dern sips!” but I’m fine if you want to think it’s bullshit.

Mensa’s recruiting classes were abortions on a historic level, back to back #3 classes that  produce a single 1-3 round draft pick in Overshown in the late 3rd. Media narratives matter and Texas was able to out recruit A&M for the first few years of Jimbo, but more importantly when it comes to A&M shitting the bed Jimbo’s stupid fucking contract is what ends up stealing the lime light. Everyone focuses on the 90 million dollars for 5-7 narrative, the 2022 class has been put center stage but even that’s morphed into a do or die total program meltdown situation. A&M had double and tripled down so many times that while people look at Texas and see a terrible gambler, they look at A&M and say “If this dude loses this hand, he’s going home and pouring gasoline in his kitchen and suck starting a shotgun”. In an incredibly aggy way they have managed to dodge some serious criticism by making the situation so much worse that everyone is holding their breath to see what happens.

So just under 6% of 85 man roster, with another 58 essentially not having chosen yet. If you plow that same percent over, it’s another 3.3 players, so basically 10% of the roster. That’s not nothing.

edit: actually never mind not all those dudes are on scholarship. I guess my perception is just anecdotal, since you see on the LHN shows Ehlinger, RoJo, Jeff McCullough and all those guys filmed at McCombs.

Pretty sure Hudson Card was in McCombs as well.

And also, no one really gives a fuck about a&m. They’ll raise their profile every few years (johnnys heisman, poaching jimbo, the 2022 recruiting class) but they’re just as often laughed at (5-7, jimbos contract, kyler and kyle transferring in the same off season). Ultimately, they only matter to the extent they provide fodder for the national cfb media.

Four-Star OL DeAndre Carter talks official visits to Auburn and Michigan State, Texas up next
It's shaping as a three-team race for the talented offensive lineman with Auburn, Michigan State and Texas making a push.
Greg Biggins

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei offensive lineman DeAndre Carter took a pair of official visits in June and has one more locked in before decision time.

Carter is one of the nation’s top offensive linemen and is currently rated the No. 90 prospect in the 247Sports Composite and No. 56 in the Top247.

He started the final game of his freshman season at left tackle and hasn’t missed a start since. He’s a mammoth prospect at 6-4, 330 pounds but can move and is dominant as both a run blocker and pass protector.

He took a handful of unofficial visits this off season and then took a pair of official trips in June to Auburn and Michigan State. He broke down what stood about each trip:

Auburn- “That visit was eye opening for me. I had never been to Auburn before but it really exceeded my expectations. It was so family oriented and everyone I met was very genuine. The players and coaches were great with me and I also liked how close the players and coaches were with each other. Coach Thornton is my lead recruiter and he’s a great guy and I’m really comfortable with him.

“I like coach Freeze a lot too and was able to spend a lot of time with him. He sat with me and my parents at dinner and then we had some really good conversations the rest of the weekend. We talked at his house and then on my last day of the visit, we had another nice sit down talk and he let me know how much they want me. I like the SEC a lot, it’s just different out there because of the level of competition. The fan bases are very passionate and I think it would be fun to play in that kind of environment.”

Michigan State- “That was my second time visiting Michigan State and I really enjoyed it there both times. On my unofficial visit, I saw most of the campus, the facilities and the dorms. I think the official trip for me was good because i was able to spend a lot more with the players and coaches on the team. It wasn’t as rushed, not saying the unofficial trip was rushed but I could just relax more on the official.

“My dad was with me on the first visit and this time, my mom was able to come with us too so that was great. They both loved it there and feel really comfortable with Michigan State as an option. I have a good relationship with coach Kap (Chris Kapilovic, OL coach) and like his coaching style. He brings the energy and all the guys on the team love him. I like coach Tucker a lot too and he’s someone I have a lot of respect for.”

Carter has one more official visit left and plans to visit Texas September 30.

“I visited Texas for Junior Day and had a really good visit,” Carter said. “There were a lot of people there but I had a good time and I have a good relationship with coach Flood (OL coach). He's recruiting me hard and reaches out every week.

“I was in position meetings with coach Flood and actually learned some new things technique wise and have used them on the practice field. I like coach Sark too and all the players I talked with really like it there.”

As for his commitment timeframe, Carter said it will likely be early in his season.

“Right now, the plan is to commit early to mid season,” Carter said. “It could be after the Texas visit but if I wake up and feel really good about a school, I get that special feeling, I could commit earlier.

“I don’t want to wait too long and lose my spot but also don’t plan on rushing things. That’s the good thing about being an offensive lineman, schools take 3-4 every year so I’m just going to play it out and we’ll see what happens.”

When you bring up “It’s far behind in diversity, food, culture…”

A) Is this for how recruits view the city?

B) How the school’s alums view the city?

C) Or how the traveling fans view the city?

Because I don’t think that those things impress C category at all.

Speak for yourself.  I base my travel around restaurants and what’s unique to the place.  Bars and drunks are the same everywhere.  I’ve done the research.
