Poor company. Marcel’s gonna crash by October. Bad metaphor for a jet company.

Maybe when the rumors about him transferring start heating up, they can steal the "Wanna get away?" tagline.

All Aggy had to do was sweep the worst team in the conference and they’d be 14-16 and in the tournament without a doubt

Based on how they finished the tourney, I think they just needed to not get swept by us and mizzou and they'd be in.

But.... moo point.

I didn't say I think aggy gets in, I said it wouldn't surprise me if they do.

TV runs the sports world, and if TV thinks aggy will bring meaningful additional advertising revenue, then aggy will be part of the show.

If it happens - which, by the way, I certainly doubt - it will be pitched as "feel good". The plucky aggy fightin' 12th man coming back from the adversity of having their coach kidnapped by the evil whorns and their fingers broken... what could feel better than that?

Tv doesn't drive things like they do in football.

The Ags really are phenomenal baseball fans. Is there any other fanbase with greater support for less results?

I almost suspect that part of it is a sick reaction to how great Texas baseball is.

Remind me which network broadcast most if not all of the college baseball postseason because if it is the ESPN that I know, the only question is who is going to get fucked by the mouse this year.

Tell that to the 1989 Horn team

Look, I'm not denying tv has power with college baseball. Obviously it does.

The point was whether or not tv would drive the committee to choose aggy over some other, more deserving team due to tv considerations. I've seen no evidence to suggest that this particular committee is so sensitive to those considerations.

In deciding who plays when? Sure. No question. But not bubble team decisions.

True, though the baseball committee has actually used other less reasonable criteria such as which AD is on the committee.

A one-game finals 36 years ago speaks to the current college baseball setup + media support?

Just means that tv scrapped the previous double elimination format because they didn't want to show a game that didn't decide the championship

I understand that.  I'm just pointing out that the championship hasn't been a winner-take-all single game for over two decades.  I'm pretty sure the 2 out of 3 format still draws a ton of eyes (relatively speaking).

I’ll take the Chicago Cubs for $500.     Once upon a time this was true.

It’s definitely a mistake to move on from Earley. He is a player’s coach. Almost more like a best friend. Plus, he ‘gets’ Aggy. In other words, he understands what makes A&M culture so unique amongst colleges and so inspiring. He really needs at least four or five seasons to build from his recruits and best-friend culture. He really is an upgrade from Schloss and I hope he gets his chance to shine.

That list blows.  Alabama has 2x the titles of anyone else including OSU.  Georgia has more wins and more titles than OU but sure why not.  LSU, Clemson, SC, Florida have more titles than OU.  How the fuck is OU 3 on any list?

It is becoming increasingly clear that Texas A&M baseball needs to make a move at the head coach position. With the odds of making the NCAA tournament field longer than they ever have been for the Aggies, A&M needs to move quickly once the decision is made.

While this is a decision that will be divisive, at least to a degree— the players clearly love Earley, and it's always a tough call to dismiss a coach after only one season— from an objective standpoint, it seems to be the right one. Of course, decisions like these never occur in a vacuum— you need to have a plan of who exactly you're going to go out and get if you are indeed about to dismiss your coach.

Rob Vaughn from Alabama is a solid candidate for the Aggies, and appears that he has been for some time. However, if A&M is swinging for the fences, there's another name that they need to pursue aggressively— a long-timer at his current school, but a guy who is more obtainable now than he ever has been: Brian O'Connor of Virginia.

If Texas A&M baseball hires Brian O'Connor, they are immediate contenders once again
Baseball America has named O'Connor a name to watch for this coaching cycle. His name was tossed around during the Aggies' previous coaching search, but he ended up not being a final candidate— whether that was his prerogative or A&M's is unclear.

[BV Editorial Comment: Yeah, that's a real fucking mystery!]

Regardless, he seems to be a guy that the Aggies can go out and get if they decide to move in that direction.

The counterargument would be that you're trading a guy who went from preseason number one to missing the tournament for a guy who went from preseason number two to missing the tournament (if both of these eventualities do indeed come to pass, as it seems they will.

The counter to that counter is that O'Connor's long history of success at UVA outweighs this current season in Charlottesville. He has captained the Cavaliers to a national title while at UVA, and several CWS berths besides.

O'Connor is reportedly being targeted by other schools as well, including Mississippi State, but the Aggies can put together the best package out of any school who will be in the market. O'Connor could just be the big swing that the Aggies are looking for, and fans should be overjoyed if this is indeed the move.

But the one thing, the biggest thing, going against them that they can’t change… they’re still aggy.

There’s always a single, “falling off a log” simple, completely obvious, easily within their grasp move that vaults them from mediocrity to championship contender.  They should definitely do that thing that they’ve dodged like Neo for their entire existence.

And somehow, they managed to NOT hire Brian O'Connor last summer, when they had all of this future major league talent returning, but NOW he's the guy and he's ready and anxious to become an agroid!

Is was probably hard enough when the aggy AD had to get Texags approval for coaching hires (see Stoops, Mark). But now that the Jizz'em Gazette has entered the power broker landscape, it has to be humbling for the AD to take the #3 seat in the decision making process. But if anyone can do it, Trev Alberts is the cuck for the job.

You raise a good point.  If ever there were a moment when their weirdness would have been minimized in terms of job attractiveness, it was coming off a runner-up finish at CWS with a loaded roster.  And yet somehow they ended up hiring a hitting coach to run the program.
