yeah, VY had a cool and calm demeanor. QE seemed like he was just going through the paces, like a bored HS student, mindlessly going through their day. it was never like, “oh he stays so calm”, it was more like, “he seems like he could take or leave being our qb right now.”

the weirdest thing about this is that i only recall QE ever showing fire or leadership one time, and it’s when he was injured, and he got the troops on the sideline all hyped up while arch was actually on the field balling. i was like, “wtf is that? i’ve never seen him show emotion like that.” don’t think i ever saw it again.

Seems I recall one instance where, prior to the "playoffs", prior to the GA debacle, where Quinn was on the mend, still treading gingerly, when he finally took off on an unscripted run, showed surprising quickness and picked up a big first down. He jumped up shaking his fist.

I waited the rest of the season to see him do that again, and he never did, especially inside the ten against Ohio State. Ten fucking yards and relatively open path to the end zone when a  defender's reaction time is what, a quarter of a second before their brain even registers that he's running... Back to Vince Young against USC. They never had a chance.

Give me speed and quickness, i.e., Arch Manning.

Quinn himself has said he didn't really approach the position with the right work ethic the way he should have initially. Strength and conditioning in particular were weak points for him and had he approached that more seriously early on, he might have been more resilient and less prone to injury. I've also always had the impression that he was a bit coddled and unaccustomed to tough standards. True of a lot of kids these days (insert curmudgeon comments here). His drop to late 7th round pick may well be the biggest reality check he's ever experienced. If he takes the right approach and earnestly applies himself addressing his weaknesses, he may yet overcome them and achieve success in the NFL. Not a prediction on my part, but I hope he does.

Quinn always came across as aloof, both on the field and with the media.  The only time I recall being surprised at him was the Gruden piece.  Whatever you think of Gruden or those interviews, Quinn was a completely different guy -- relaxed, comfortable in his skin, funny.  I don't know why we didn't see that guy more, but maybe it's just the difference between one on one and dealing with groups.  (I'm no psychologist, I won't diagnose.)

I said put in the work AND consistency of effort.

He has been humbled at this point.  Maybe for the first time.  For me personally, there was once a time in my life when I worked reasonably hard at a goal.  But I did it in the wrong manner.  So perhaps now he can become more focused.  He has the opportunity.  I believe he landed in a good environment.  He will either succeed or not.

There's been lots of references to him at his best - Michigan, Bama.  So, yeah, there’s a point at which his preparation could lead to more consistency and provide him a legit chance of success and repeat those performances.

Going all the way back to 2022, I have not been short of criticism.  I’ve been consistent too.  But I haven’t limited what his upside is.  That’s where I sit today.

Is Quinn keeping the same agent? If he doesn’t get better representation then he shouldn’t expect better results. I was worried for Quinn when I saw his Hulu commercial and realized the other guy in the commercial with him was his agent. Shit like that plus @Thatguy saying how miserable Quinn was because he was being treated horribly by Texas fans made me think that he has bad representation and is having so much smoke being blown up his ass that it’s going to cause a dumpster fire with his stock in the draft.

Was it live, because I'd guess it was edited and they had more than one take.  I'd love nothing more than to see QE set the league on fire, but I've noticed the same characteristics that you mention.

Yes. Quinn needs to walk into Miami camp without his family, agent or QB trainer being a major influence anymore. Blank slate, start from scratch with McDaniel and the Dolphin coaching staff.

Could be.   I do not know the answer regarding his agent.

i do not necessarily get the sense that the voices in his ear have ever been great.  I view Sark and crew as positives but beyond that I don’t know.    I wouldn’t trust that treaty oak fella at all.

Everything except the deep ball.  It was HORRENDOUS.  I watched Arkansas and Kentucky today on the TxClips channel and he wasn’t even close multiple times.  Everything else looked pretty fucking great to be honest.  He has got to work with someone to fix that because it was the sole reason we didn’t just annihilate most of our competition.

Aloof is the wrong word. That implies an "I'm better than you" attitude that I don't think QE really embodied.  I think it's possible he's just a quiet introvert in a world that rewards brash extroverts (especially in leadership-oriented positions).  I think he hews closer to Tim Duncan attitude-wise (not skill obviously).

Tim Duncan was a fucking stone cold killer - what are you talking about? Tim Duncan was one of the most locked in professional athletes of all time, to the point that he was called "the big fundamental". He was just a bit stoic because he isn't (even in his personal life) a very loud/vocal person.

When did he ever hit a guy in stride on any throw? Even the check downs were thrown in a way where the receiver had to adjust to the dump off.

Too bad he never moved. He is not even close to “throwing on the move or off balance” and his throws were never in the breadbasket or in a position where his man wasn’t getting rocked to make the catch.

Like the fake against Kentucky where he fumbled even though NOBODY touched him? He fakes himself out more than anyone. If he could conquer his mental demons he would be on another level.

His interview with Gruden showed how fun and personable he is when things are focused on just football. I was very impressed he had such a personality on him. Golden loved Quinn too.

This is just patently false.  There are multiple examples of him flawlessly leading Blue on checkdowns for nice chunks.

This is also untrue.  Again, there are multiple examples.

This play was an absolute disaster, but that was a weird game regarding ball security.  Blue and Bolden both fumbled twice and Brown fumbled the ball once on a kick return for Kentucky when nobody touched him.

Quinn was not by any means perfect at Texas, but to say “when did he ever hit a guy in stride” makes me question if you’ve ever watched a Texas game with QE at QB.

This.  JFC that was an awful take.

So, in retrospect, Sark almost pulled off a miracle. His choke in the last series was more egregious than Quinn's.

Mid season Sark decided that Quinn could get back to 100% or so and take us to the promise land. That never happened. He also decided, perhaps the biggest factor in going with Quinn, was that he owed it to him to help in the NFL draft. We saw how that turned out. I wonder if Sark learned his lesson.

Seems pretty clear now that he should have moved heaven and earth to get Manning more playing time mid-season thru to the end, even if it meant going with two QBs. Manning was the guy to get us past Georgia and OSU. What a team that was. What a defense. What a cinderella season it would have been had a raw Arch Manning brought home the bacon. Can you imagine the impact on recruiting?

Wonder if Sark learned anything from it. Feels like Quinn was so mediocre mid-season that Sark decided to give him maximum snaps at Manning's expense. Big fucking mistake. Oldest mistake in the book - letting your backup sit when he could be getting quality reps. Damn.

No, because we're expecting Arch to be the gold standard moving forward.

If Sark stuck to his gut feeling that Quinn was toast when he made the move to Arch against Georgia, I truly believe we would be national champs last season. Sure, we probably still lose that Georgia game but that didn't matter in the end. Arch would have gotten better as the season went on. He would be ready for the SEC championship and the playoffs. He brings a dynamic with his legs you have to respect and it would have opened up so much.

Sadly, Sark went back to Quinn and this offense suffered because of it. The biggest indictment was the Arkansas game against one of the worst secondaries in the country. Quinn struggled.

Ball in hand in both semifinals games at the end and he shits the bed. Especially the end of Washington. But in Ohio State game, we had the ball driving tied up in the 4th. Looking to take the lead. Quinn had a 3rd down we absolutely had to convert if you want to win a title. And he choked as usual. Defense did everything they could to keep Quinn's offense in that game and he didn't take advantage.

Oof, I tried to forget about that play. Easy throw, way off the mark.

Da fuck? Quinn has horrible footwork work and can’t make throws off balance and on the move and it’s a primary reason he plummeted in the draft. I genuinely think that Arch had more roll out passes and scrambles in his few starts than Quinn had in his whole career at Texas. Outside of the roll out passes during the Michigan game, Quinn either hit his checkdown or took a sack when he needed to be mobile or scramble.

Nah... and about that Ohio State Game. We had the fucking momentum. We were coming back big time and got the ball to what, the one motherfucking yard line. Score there, the D shuts down the Buckeyes and it's on to an easy slaughter of the Irish. I want a do-over this season. We're gonna paint this conference burnt orange. Fucking Georgia fans will be at the airport when our plane lands, on their knees doing salami, salami, baloney.
