The London Bridge Has Fallen - The Legacy of Queen Elizabeth II

It’s strange to think that it’s been so long since we have seen a King of England and it may be 100 years or more before we see a queen rule again.

Yeah, that’s an interesting side note. A good bit of the “woman on the street” BBC interviews have commented on that - almost all Brit women grew up with a female sovereign, and they almost certainly won’t see another in their lifetime.

Walked by Glasgow city hall yesterday, where the locals were leaving their flowers and notes. A decent variety, a few that called on Charles to be a defender of the Protestant faith. And a few arrangements with thistles, thought that was a cool Scot touch.

I would have thought inbreeding would reduce life expectancy.  But if a female product of cousin-fucking can avoid a few rare diseases and get top-notch health care with no worry about insurance, apparently they can be expected to outlive us normal people:

The things you find out whilst taking an early morning dump.  I wish I had Union Jack toilet paper to wipe my ass with.  I appreciate them as military allies but I've never, ever understood the royal fascination so many American women have.  The number of people I've encountered in the last week that are up on every minutia of the British Monarchy, who then have zero idea what the fuck is going on in U.S. politics is staggering.  Probably a Venn diagram I've been blissfully ignoring.  Two nearly concentric circles of "British Royals who were birthed by cousins" & "Southern Morons who were birthed by cousins" and the only non-overlapping sliver is "Got a quality education"

The monarchy doesn't have much to do with "politics", really. They have almost zero power to do anything. They just hang out and do PR shit, mostly. So women (like my wife) can just have their princess fantasy and not have to think about government or politics. It's just a soap opera for them. Don't overthink it.

Fair point.  If you combine the two on here and one in CR, it's gotta be thousands of posts by now with grown Texas men revealing disturbing arrays of knowledge about the Crown.  I wish the whole monarchy would die tomorrow, but apparently "Now is not the time!" or so I've been told frequently over the last week.

Yes, I know they don't have control over politics.  I'm not Sarah Palin.  Just that they understand the details of the UK heads of state better than the stories involving our current and recent heads of state.

If my wife started telling me her thoughts on Liz Truss and what it means for the UK, then I would agree with you. But she just talks about the dress so-and-so wore and what some kid's middle name is. These aren't "heads of state" to most people. They are characters in a long running prime time soap.

I like the way you phrased that.  Especially since my sister is so bummed out that "Days of Our Lives" is ending after 57 years on NBC, so she texted and asked me to gift her a Peacock streaming membership so she could keep watching it there.  Maybe this royal talk on the news will keep our occupied while I wait for a free trial to send her.

Shit $20, is that all?  I thought it was $20/month. Imma send her one today because apparently her soap already changed over yesterday and she's pissed she's behind.

Not gonna say sorry for thread derail, but will let the other gals get back to their royal gossip.

And CW-Edge Lord is a great porn name for your mom.  ;)    call me buck naked

Haven't commented on any specific royalty actually, posited any facts or trivia or commentary on outfits, relationships, or gossip.  Just that they should all die.  All of them.

But yes...to be fair to your comments, I am posting on the fascination I have with the fascination America has on them.  Levels upon levels, man.

I mean, the answer seems to be right there, it's not a matter of politics and for that reason quite a bit more enjoyable to the psyche, as a form of distraction. I would certainly be happier learning about the history of the crown and lines of succession than the issues surrounding attempts to overturn a free and fair election (among the dozens of other CR things that wear me down emotionally to fully consider). The people who find this level of interest in the monarchy probably wonder why many of us care so damn much about a bunch of 18-22 year olds bashing each others heads in on Saturdays, knowing where the players went to high school, what their individual stats are, the name and background of the quality control assistant, and listening intently to the coach describe defensive schemes. It's a distraction like a bunch of other things people find to be interesting. Like Sandman said, considering it caring about politics in another country over our own is the wrong viewpoint, its not politics, its history, drama, whatever makes someone care about the monarchy as a public institution.

Something happens, people comment, then we post the same six memes, more comments, then we comment on the commentary, then invariably devolve into a discussion reminds us of a Seinfeld episode.  Or you can sum it all up as a threadshit.  I agree with both.  No house at Windsor but at a freezer case at the end of the aisle.

I’m wildly curious to see the logistics of how they switch out all those bank notes in a reasonable period of time.  And are strippers involved in the process at all?

Back in 1992 I was stranded in Dover with about 10 pounds to make it all the way to Glasgow.  I met a couple of Manchester cab drivers on the ferry who were returning from a drinking and whoring holiday in Amsterdam who offered to drive me to Manchester.  During the entire drive these 2 hungover cab drivers had an in depth discussion with me about the US congressional system and the executive branch with specific emphasis on the Kennedy administration. I was just hoping they didn't ask me to name any PM other than Churchill.

Csb/tldr- we Americans are kind of dumb.

If any of them get in a car accident and they don't have insurance maybe they'll be forced to work as a comedian's butler.

The issue is that you can get a lot of shit English food, but good quality English food is really amazing.  Many of my most memorable meals were in the UK.
A full Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding and goose fat roasted potatoes is one of the world’s most glorious meals.

Spent half my youth in the UK visiting my aunt and her family. That damn roast and Yorkshire pud is my favorite memory.

you have either never been married or never had daughters or nieces.

a huge, HUGE percentage of childrens books/movies/TV shows geared towards girls, (and damn near every Disney movie aimed at girls), for the entire existence of those medium have featured a princess in a castle with an issue.  OR a commoner becoming a princess by marrying a prince.

Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Frozen, Tangled, Anastasia, Beauty and the Beast, Princess and the Frog, Shrek (all of them), Aladdin, Brave, Princess Diaries, and thats just a few of the movies, you have entire shows on Disney named "Disney princesses" that include almost every female character listed above.  plus all the Sofia shows.

and thats the kid versions, there are multiple "normal adult (non-porn)"  movies out there where a girl dates a reserved  guy who turns out to be a prince.

American girls are weaned on princess stories, and across the pond are real-life Princes and Princess that speak English.

your head is under a rock if you dont understand why a huge portion of English speaking women go gaga over princess stories. its their childhood dreams coming true for someone like Catherine (or Megan before she became a succubus) going from commoner to princess.

Shit when Grace Kelly married the Prince from Monaco, America went nuts about that. plus there are multiple stories about the Danish or Netherlands royals marrying commoners.

There isnt a reverse side for American guys... we might get stories about us saving the princess, but thats about it.

Well yeah, I get my two daughter's fascination with princess stories.  Those Disney princesses usually have special powers or really interesting background stories.  That, plus good animation and a decent narrative arc...I'm cool with the merchandising side-angle.  But these are just boring inbreds.  If I wanted to watch boring white inbreds talk about shit they know nothing about, I'd go to a Qanon conference.  Disney I can handle, I know their agenda and I'm willing to participate.  Again, my commentary was regarding my fascination with the fascination.  Thanks for understanding the nuance to that.

I did see a "princess-themed" film starring Samantha Saint in the role of Cindarella.  And I gotta say, I enjoyed that version a lot more than the "who gives a fuck" royal wedding between the balding inbred prince dude and the cunt whose sister had a nice ass at least.

And he was only briefly the King, and a one-term President to boot.  Took over after Samuel Adams, our 14th president, was assassinated at the end of his term IIRC, elected once more, and then chose not to run a second time.  To "heal the nation"   Fucking pussy.

My mom watches NBC morning news…since forever. Anyway that’s her jam. She just loves the hour with Jenna and Hoda. This is pretty surreal in a way because Jenna was there for it…

i doubt anyone will watch it so here’s what she said about that moment:

Bush Hager explained that she was scheduled to interview Charles' wife Camilla— then Duchess of Cornwall, now Queen Consort — on Thursday afternoon at Dumfries House in Scotland.

But about two hours before their scheduled chat, "We heard sort of running up and down the halls" — during which the royals' team "came in and said, 'Can you please be quiet? There's a call.' "

"We were right by then-Prince Charles', now King Charles III's, office. They said, 'He's on a call can you please be quiet.' Then, all of a sudden, we heard a helicopter," Bush Hager recalled.

"They said, 'The Queen is ill, and they have gone and rushed off to be with her,' " she continued. "We just said our hearts are with them."
——————-

anyway Jenna thinks that QE2’s death was a huge shock to KC3 bc the night before there was no worry or concern about QE2 health. I still think she died in her sleep and the servants and such found her. Anne was already there for other engagements.

This website is not a good place to find a good sample of “Texas men”.  There’s a bunch of weirdos here, and a lot of them are very lady like.  Some are probably dressed like their favorite Disney princess as they’re reading this.

Tom Clancy has been dead for years, but if he had a ghost, you'd be able to cut actual glass with it's ghostly hard-on.

They've already said they are going to limit air traffic in London, and that heads-of-state will be landing in airports outside of London and shuttled in on buses, etc.

You're describing a similar phenomenon, though. Granted US politics has a bit more influence on the rest of the world than the British monarchy does - but they find it interesting because of the detachment. For a lot of folks it's less "I'm going to study American politics to ensure I'm knowledgeable" and more "What are those crazy fuckers up to?". Maybe those cab drivers were more studious than most, but US politics is a soap opera for them just like the monarchy is for us.

GTFO of London this morning just in time.  We left at 7:30, they were starting the massive road closures at 9:00 (they'd already done a good number of them last night, made our cab ride back from the theater a bit of an adventure).  I've never seen that big a police presence in any major city (granted, I don't think I've been in a major city for a huge, national-level event like the queen's funeral).  Cops EVERYWHERE.

Did not go by and pay our respects to her majesty.  I don't think she's hurt by that omission.
