Think about the type of player you’re getting at Tech if he’s been money whipped extravagantly to go there of all places.

These are low IQ players, jumping at whatever money they can get and probably don’t have the work ethic, focus, or intelligence to really succeed and exceed.

Oh I don’t think he’s low IQ for taking $5m. Very few can pass that up. Hell I’d have taken it too.

Paying $5 million to one guy is not how you build a program. Even if it's a few guys you overpay for, and I get that the only way you can get them is to overpay, it's not how you build a program. Losers are gonna loser.

Drama drama. Brought to you by the idiots who fired Mike Leach.

You guys know there’s no salary caps right? There’s no budget? All this talk of “tying up money” in recruits is nonsense. We have almost unlimited money to spend and we should start acting like it. Do the Dodgers give a shit how much money they have tied up in Ohtani or Betts or Kershaw or anyone else? Do they let it stop them from signing more stars? No.

Someone give me the down low one n this sand aggy.  Ok billionaire but is he willing to throw 30m at tech athletics every year?

Dont look at 30 mil from your perspective.  If he has $1000 throwing $30 at something isnt that much.  Also, he has more than a thousand and it will continue to grow.

The outrage would've been from other teams/fans. "Texas is ruining college football!!11". People care a lot less when its an irrelevant Texas Tech program.

All I can say is that I predict the numbers keep going up until there's some kind of legislation or the system starts collapsing. Maybe this new enforcement mechanism does something to curtail the spending, but I doubt it.

Texas isn't going to ruin college football any more than it ruined the Southwest Conference or the Big 12. But I feel like you know that.

In any case, I did miss the point of the post.

I do feel like Texas Tech can spend its way to relevancy if they have the right coach. I have no idea if McGuire is that sort of dude, but if you spend enough more than everyone else year after year, eventually it comes together. That's assuming the Double Eagle guys continue to believe this is a good use of their immense wealth. And it assumes other programs don't get their own very generous benefactors and outspend them. But that goes back to my first sentence.

So bizarre - Tech currently has two low 4 stars in their class, all the rest 3-stars (other than Ojo).  So basically, they just threw their entire recruiting budget at Ojo.

The funny thing about Tech’s transfer class is they spent an obscene amount and ended up adding 3, maybe 4, guys that I view as real impact players to a roster that was otherwise fairly mediocre. For the most part, these guys are closer to Jermayne Lole level players than Mukuba/Golden.

The strategy doesn’t make sense to me, it’s not like they had an existing roster ready for a playoff run and just needed a few pieces. They’ll get tagged a few times in B12 play because it’s a random number generator conference and they go on the road to Utah, ASU and KSU. More than anything, they set themselves up to be national laughingstocks.

Look, if Tech wants to drop bags, they're more than welcome to. But I fear that they're going to learn that signing five stars does not automatically translate to wins. Tom Herman and Charlie Strong were also able to snag 5 stars.

It's really two guys. John Sellers and Cody Campbell. They both played football at Texas Tech. They were partners with Double Eagle. They're the guys who brought in the softball pitcher, NiJaree Canady, from Stanford, for $1 mlllion per year both last year and this coming season.

There is nothing wrong with deciding to take the money.  However just like the recent camps, he's a little bitch who plays games and cant handle things with maturity.  I wouldnt feel bad if he blows his knees.

I doubt Cody Campbell thinks like the haters that fired Leach. CC played four years for the pirate. And the speculation that Ojo won't end up signing seems odd. My understanding is that he has already signed so as to obviate any House Settlement consequences of his deal. I agree with those who believe he is a super-high risk to be locker-room poison, a 5* millionaire either riding the pine or getting humbled playing before ready. The cash is going to run right through Lubbock.

We saw first hand how that worked out.

I believe the only consensus 5 star that Strong got was Jefferson so McGuire technically has more consensus 5 stars at Tech than Strong had at UT assuming Ojo signs to go along with Hudson. Just an interesting look back at the dark days of UT recruiting.

First ever wcws appearance, and made it to the finals.  And they added some offense and a second pitcher in the portal.  I’d guess they were happy.

lol wut.

Williams barely got drafted. He was nowhere fucking near being a high first round pick even if he started two more years in college.

you’re retarded.
