Arkansas, like OU, and Okla State, have been the biggest beneficiaries of students from the state of Texas that can no longer get into UT but have enough sense to not want to go to A&M.

OU is not anywhere close to the top 100 schools and the other 2 are barely in the top 200. Unless an applicant is borderline retarded, there are many superior options between Texas and those 3 embarrassing institutions.

Things have changed somewhat on the Arkie end.  Gone are the days of Hillbilly U.  They actively recruit good students now.

All universities recruit good students. None of them go to Arkansas, which is why they are barely inside the top 200. If you have a kid attending that clown college, your kid is stupid and you massively failed as a parent.

Having three historic regional rivals is fun. I don't see why anyone would want to drop one of them.

General hate between high end teams that are competitive is a different thing that's fun in its own way but isn't a true rivalry (until it goes on for decades).

Recruiting: Two decisions on deck

Texas is back in the top 5 recruiting classes once again, and there are two more decisions prior to the state of the season that could vault the Longhorns even higher.

Texas still has the potential to sign a class of 27 or 28 prospects. If that happens, the Longhorns will likely be in the mix for a second strgith No. 1 ranked class.

Davon Benjamin, DB, Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian
The 4-star++ versatile defensive back will announce either August 2 or the 5th, with the the second being the current announced date. Oregon has been considered the favorite for the majority of his recruitment. Texas and Michigan are providing true competition, and the Longhorns are all in. Steve Sarkisian is part of this recruitment, along with Mark Orphey, Duane Akina, area recruiter Johnny Nansen and DC Pete Kwiatkowski.

Washington and North Carolina will have hats at the table.

Jake Kreul, EDGE, Orlando (Fla.) IMG Academy

The OTF 4-star+ EDGE was considered an Oklahoma lean headed into OV's and through most of June. Now a month later, Texas has momentum here with a final push. Ole Miss and Oklahoma also remain in the mix. The Longhorns want a pass rush specialist in the class, and Kruel is the best prospect in that regard on the board. Kruel could commit in early August, or wait until October. IMG Academy has their media day the first week of August.

Texas will work to flip ...
Where the Texas class ultimately finish in the class rankings will not be decided until flips candidates and a potential senior riser signs in December.

Malakai Lee, OT, Honolulu (Hi.) Kamehameha - *Michigan commit
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Trenton Henderson, EDGE, Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic - *LSU commit
OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star

Jalen Lott, WR, Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek - *Oregon commit
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

OTF believes offensive tackle, EDGE, linebacker, wide receiver and defensive back are positions currently still on the table.

What a fun game that was.  However, it's impact was a drop in the Pacific compared to 1969.  And anyone who went to games up there after 69 knows, they hated our guts prior to the miracle of 87.  Btw, that game was the first "walk off" win in UT history.

Anyway, Glen Campbell was up at the bar when we were there and we went to meet him. He was rude and didn’t want to be bothered. Didn’t go well. That’s all I got!

Everyone throughout the southeast is targeting the texas burbs

As soon as UT and aggy cut the automatic acceptance of 10% kids, they immediately became a target for SEC schools wanting to gobble these kids up by offering easier admissions and good football programs, and for parents, substantial out of state financial packages so they didn't have to go bankrupt to send their kids to SMU, TCU or Baylor

If you could take one from that list-(mostly bread to fill class). Who are you taking? Kreul. Lee. Lott. Henderson 4 pick 1.

I was thinking Lott/henderson but I’m going Henderson

I like the idea of a north/south big RB.

That might go a long way towards solving our red zone issues.

Get Cooper, feed him red meat for a year, bulk up, score touchdowns.

We totally need that. We had to run a scat back all last year. Putting Arch in for red zone runes last year because he's super fast, 225lbs, and just freakingly athletic isn't optimal. We need his arm first.

Im fine playing Arkansas but with the caveat that theyre the only school we show no class or consideration towards. Every chance we get we run up the score on them in every way imaginable. We show them hostility at our home games similar to what they show us.

They're disgusting hill people and we should treat them like barbarians. The treatment ive received in Fayeteville transcends the need to be cordial ever again. We should curb stomp them and piss down the open wound into their neck. To the point that they genuinely dont want to play us anymore.

Well, that’s what’s been happening. Given the schools’ proximity to the state of Texas, and relative affordability of being public institutions, that’s what’s driving enrollment. But since you are obviously an expert, go ahead and list out the superior alternatives that meet tuition and proximity requirements and have reasonable acceptance rates.

So, I took one for the team and actually read that stupid AF article on Sydney Sweeney's tits. For all of you, and for science. And it's as fucking dumb as you'd imagine. Also, you're all welcome because it's one of the better distractions, you cheese punning fucks.

Fun Fact, I actually learned this next small bit of preamble during a class at UT. Generally speaking, one common facet of the female attractiveness is the ratio of a woman's different attributes. Chest to Waist, Wasit to Hip, Body Shape, etc. It's called the Golden Ratio, and it's math. It's like 1.6 or something. In class the data shared was that playboy playmate measurements were compared over the last 75 years or some such, and while the weight, shape, and measurements always changed over time, the ratio basically was a constant through the decades.

Why is that important in regards to Sydney Sweeney's amazing, amazing tits?

Because outside of the obvious, that stupid fucking article citied literally aggregate measurements from the lingerie industry that said that the average female breast size is 34 or 36DD. That's right, the gold standard we all grew up with for MASSIVE HOLY SHIT TITS is apparently the national average. How can that be? Because included in that statistic was every fucking disgusting fatbody that most of America deems completely unfuckable, to the point of being invisible except to give me passing feelings of disgust at pretty much every public space I occupy. From my 600 lb life, to just the morbidly obese, to the people who shop at Wal Mart, to just the simple pear shaped lady, it's all included in that average.

So you see guys, her boobs aren't THAT big because America is super super fat, and fat women's massive tit's count too. That's it. That's the article.

Who're you going to believe, guys, you're lying eyes or an article that was ghost written by Vic Mackey or jealous ass Jabette the Hutt?

I played softball with a guy that worked for Playtex. He had a peculiar talent for identifying bra and cup sizes at a glance. Just standing and commenting as they walked by, 33C, 32B, 34D etc. The reactions he got were funny, shock, embarrassment, gratitude. Yeah the 34 D's and DD's knew they had it, and appreciated when others acknowledged that fact.

I remember his comments on the right tits being in the wrong bra. Yeah, even back then I knew to stay in my lane before it was fashionable to do so.

It's a good talking point to the THSCA, but I watched the entire talk he gave on youtube a bit ago. There were some other things said. The question was about this year's class, and how only ten of the 21 commitments are from the state of Texas. Sarkisian did a great job of answering the question, but the clear message in the entire Q&A was that Texas unapologetically was going to go after the best talent across the country. He acknowledged that agents have diminished the role of Texas high school coaches in the process, but he challenged coaches not to just give up their role as advisors and mentors. He challenged them to man up and be a part of the process rather than throwing up their collective hands and saying, "what can you do? It's all about the agents now."

He talked about how it's not just about Texas keeping the best players in the state. There were a lot of instate programs players could go to. Then he pointed out that many of the best players in the state were leaving for programs outside of Texas. He had the standard "if I could recruit my entire team from the state of Texas I would" line, but the clear message is that's not the world we live in. He refused to get defensive about it, which is exactly right.

The truth is this recruiting season is a sea change from how Texas has always gone about its business. I doubt we ever see 80% of UT's draft picks to the NFL being instate kids ever again in my lifetime. Sarkisian has made a clear investment in going after the best players wherever they are, with an emphasis on the southeast and California. It's not just the NIL dollars spent. Or the commitments. Or even the visits, although all of those are a huge part of it. The coaches are investing their time and resources in travelling all over the country - not just to see specific kids, but to build connections in the high school for players in the current recruiting class, as well as who might be someone to look for in future classes. That's when you know Texas is serious about this. They're not just putting a sack of money in front of the player. They're going out and cultivating relationships because they want people to know they're in it for the long haul. That's how you help protect your program from bad seeds that poison the locker room and/or force your hand where you have to pull the lever to the trap door to get them out of Austin.

Always try to read you and others an one post the full Sark link and that other one about now bad ass Texas is. sorry i'm fading.

UT-Dallas and Houston. Depending on your degree path, Houston can be a great school.

It all depends on your degree program and how much assistance you're getting from the variety of schools.  If you're getting a elementary education degree? Go to the cheapest place possible.  Going to a CS program, find the best program you can get into as it will pay for itself over time as long as AI doesn't take all of our jobs.

I’ve advocated for vocational school to become a plumber or carpenter or something of that ilk, then an apprenticeship and then we’d help the kid get a franchise or hang a shingle. I dealt with franchisees for a few of the national electrician, HVAC and plumbing brands. Many of them were self-made millionaires.

I bring it up to my kids in front of my wife every now and then because she loses it and the kids all crack up. I can’t say it’s a path that apparently my kids may be going on, but I don’t think anyone is a dummy for taking that route. I honestly think that is a better choice than getting a sociology degree from Arkansas or Auburn or any degree whatsoever from LSU.

Since we're on the topic of recruiting, I'm advocating for my kids to do as much concurrent enrollment and AP in high school, and then do a year at community college to knock out transferable credits. It's a hell of a lot cheaper, a lot less stressful, and it gives them time to figure out more about what they want to study in a 4-year college.

I lived in Louisville for a while. Spent every weekend I could down in Lexington. That town is awesome and Keenland is the most fun I've had a "sporting event" outside of Texas football games. Honestly had no intention of moving back to Texas until my folks got sick, Kentucky is a great state. Especially if you are decently smart and have any kind of social graces. A lack of in-state connections could limit your ability to get in with the "country club" set, but the job opportunities are endless for someone who is at all qualified.

I had to learn stay away from Bardstown, though. I could see the path from "functional alcoholic" to "ruining my life" was paved in wheated bourbon.

Looking forward to the game in October in Lex.  Keeneland Friday and game on Saturday.  Lexington is a very fun town and that part of Kentucky is beautiful.

To bring it back to recruiting, should I be worried about the numbers? Seems like I should.

This is absolutely correct.  Most of the wealthier, selfmade people I know did not attend college.  They grinded in a trade and built up.  A couple of Welders, an electricians,  and electrical lineman, all multimillionaires, mostly finding niches within the oil and gas service industry.  I tell all the young people who will listen that to be successful you don't have to be the smartest, you just have to work hard and be disciplined.

I've got faculty friends who have told their kids to consider these options -- and who lament that they can't switch to a trade or craft now that their knees and backs are going. Many, if not most, college degrees aren't the ticket they were when many Surly posters were in school.

Our weekly happy hour has three professors (one retired), a retired school superintendent, a couple of IT guys, and an electrician as its most regular members. Guess who's got the biggest damn house out of that bunch?

Professors earn vastly different salaries, depending on their field and the school they teach in. Business school professors make a hell of a lot more money, in part because business schools bring in a ton of $$$ through expensive MBA degrees and alumni donations from the corporate ranks. Next are teachers in the engineering departments, followed by those in the sciences and liberal arts who heavily rely on grants. Business school professors don't have to run labs. Business school Ph.D grads don't slave away in post-doc roles for years, while engineering post-docs will make roughly $60-70K/year at an R1 university. Most science post-docs make the NIH minimum, which was $54k/year up until recently.

This is accurate. I maybe should've mentioned that I'm a tenured professor, and I'm telling my kids to do some community college before they hit the 4-year school. And I really don't care if they get a 4-year degree or not. Just find something you like, work hard at it, and make yourself indispensable. I still think a 4-year degree is generally the safest bet to higher income, but it's definitely not the only way.

we should think about a standalone condom thread - this will be a fascinating topic as this season unfolds

their schedule sets up nicely in 3 phases

talk about the league office setting them up the bomb

mo state (sms now fbs) - W

ga southern - W

@ purdue - W

mi state - W

@ illinois - W

OFF

they should have no problem opening 5-0 while taking care of b1g scrub roadies when the weather is good

michigan - ?

OFF

if they win either, the hype will be loud

anything from 8-4 to undefeated is possible, 10-2 looks likely and that puts riley the slut back on the front burner
