that fucking press release says Texas schools are top notch...

I think Trump takes that cake as the worst politician... I mean the entire undermining democracy and norms and everything.

But I don't know if there is one that I like less than Greg Abbott.

We should not be playing fuck fuck games with our public education to appease a bunch of fucking christofascists. Cmon Jeff.

I’m not saying I’m for it, I’m just saying what would prevent that from happening.

If this funds privates better than publics, the publics will fade away. Which is probably the point.

Oh wait, did Abbott put his foot in his mouth again? He does have a history of doing just that (Uvalde 'could have been worse', Garth Brooks booed offstage at fake music festival, Daniel Perry will be pardoned... then the nasty text messages come out)

I realize you're posting from an anger, and your question is likely rhetorical, but I'm going to answer it anyway.

Why do we need choice and vouchers if schools are top notch?
1.) Because we can't legislate Jesus into public schools as much as we'd like, so it's much easier to encrouage kids out of public schools and into private
2.) Private schools can reject kids based on nothing at all...or things like say...Race. So you know, kids of a certian skin color can avoid diversity and anything Woke
3.) Private schools can now raise their enrollment cost, to keep out all the poorer families who will try to enroll anyway, so the status quo remains exactly the same.
4.) Poor (read ethnic) kids now go back to even shittier funded schools.

This.  This is the agenda.   It's a perfect combo of having the government pay for instruction in Republican Jesus (not to be confused with the actual biblical Jesus), re-creating segregation, and crushing the poor and minorities even more, ensuring that their fate is cast for generations to come.

Sounds like he's trying to bully pulpit Dade into just agreeing to it.  If nothing comes of it, he blames Dade for going back on the deal and the Texas MAGATs nuke Dade's speakership into the sun in 2025.

pull GOP primary ballots

Yeah, man.  Those primary choices will be awesome.  I'll really feel like I made a difference, ensuring that the easy winner of the general election (because (R) next to his name) is Himmler instead of Mengele.  What a service I've performed!

I mean if they are so "top notch" then why do we need any of this school choice/vouchers???

Really wish I could pull the brakes on Abbots chair and make him answer that question...

Somebody had to be pissed off enough to make this GIF (and the fact that the rest of their account is just animated GIFs of foxes says something)

For at least the next few cycles, more districts than not are going to vote for a Republican in a general.  You can offer the stupids a MAGA/Briscoe/Patrick fuckwad or give them someone less insane.  Otherwise, the current strategy of hanging back and not touching a GOP primary ballot 'cause it feels icky ain't fucking working out too well.  I had to listen to Ellen with a straight face claim that women here illegally are taking advantage of our legal system to gain unfair protections against their rapists.  In 100 booze/drug-fueled benders, I could never come up with half the shit they're inventing now.  They need to given a timeout on the sidelines.  Only way to do it is force their constituents who have to keep voting Republican in generals to choose somebody who didn't wake up this morning thinking, "Yes, yes...it's clearly a lack of Jesus in libraries making our kids murder one another."

Dan Patrick, Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, a couple of West Texas billionaires, and Texas MAGATs are already going to try nuke pretty much everybody in the Texas House next year.

Texas might be the farthest gone state in the "union," which is crazy when you think about some of the states. But yeah, there's a less horrible group of Republicans that will fix shit if the Dems would just help them get elected! Great fuckin plan ygifs

Sorry.  Totally forgot what a bang up job your “we are a purple state that just has low turnout” model is going for our state.  My bad.  They won’t fix it but they’ll pass less insane shit.  But let’s totally go with Wendy and Beto again because that’s done phenomenal.

That’s still not a great pitch for “voluntarily ingest strychnine instead of cyanide.” Nope. Not gonna ingest either.

How do you find and notice these things lol.

On Tenor, when you search for Greg Abbott

https://tenor.com/search/greg-abbott-gifs

It's in the first 4-5 gifs.

Unfortunately, Abbott Elementary has a character named "Greg", so a whole lot of fans of that TV show have uploaded GIFs that interfere with our Greg Abbott searches, but there are still good ones at the top, like

I did this twice in an effort to block Ted Cruz and Dan Patrick from their current offices, and all I got for it was a decade of nauseating republican mail and telephone calls.

Same here but I actually find it useful. If I get a mailer from, say, Steven Hotze, I can just carry that to the polls and vote the exact opposite. Research done for me.

My mailman definitely thinks I'm a real piece of shit, though.

Initially, I was entertained by Hotze, Link Letter, etc.  But, it got old real fast.

In other news, water is wet. Now, he’s gonna have to run for Congress:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/family-values-republican-candidate-arrested-183622073.html

The Republican candidate for a Texas city council was arrested just hours before Election Day on federal child pornography charges.

Brad Benson, who was running for the Granbury City Council, was arrested at his home Monday morning. Benson was a small-business owner and the deputy fire marshal for the town, which is southwest of Fort Worth.

“I can confirm he was arrested by the District Attorney’s Office yesterday and charged with two felony child pornography charges,” Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds told Newsweek on Tuesday.

Good god. This is a Republican tweet about a Republican:

Did you miss the bits about Republican politicians publicly calling Phelan a drunk?

There's a war going on between suburban MAGA and a few West Texas BMDs who are making Paxton/Patrick/Abbott/etc. jump and dance to the best of their ability vs the House and the rural Republicans.

It's hard to imagine that this intraparty bickering is doing anything to help advance the GQP agenda. It's kind of nice to watch them eat their own and for Abbott to keep pissing down his leg.

Getting a little interesting. No quorum yesterday. No quorum today. Will try again Monday. Four of the red members of the house are accusing Phelan of orchestrating it.

The House Select Committee on Educational Opportunity voted this out of committee 10-4.  The 4 votes were NO by Dems. The 5th Democrat on the committee, Rep. Oscar Longoria (RGV) was absent.

Rep. Longoria is working with Phelan quietly against the wishes of the Dems. He is one of the most conservative Dems in the House. Longoria didn’t even stick with the Dems when they left the state to block Republican voter bills a few years ago.

Longoria and other Dem reps located on the border have voted with Greg Abbott in favor of immigration bills because it provides more border funding to their districts.
