Public shaming doesn't work anymore because it barely ever actually happens any more (because you might get shot)

CSB: I used to know the baby in that painting a little bit. My wife and his sister were college roomies.

Was he able to kick the habit?

What was the actual point of the hearing with the Senate Finance Committee last week? Is there some kind of threat of actual consequences for RFK Jr, or is it all just political theater to make it look like Congress still does something? Is the Senate deliberating on something, and if so, what is that specifically?

It doesn’t do anyone any good for bipartisan senators to grill RFK Jr for 3+ hours if he simply goes back to destroying American healthcare infrastructure with no restrictions.

Ha. In the picture he was holding a candy cigarette. He was a partier though and I know he parlayed that story plenty.

Does he think of all the education that he missed?

Bernie sanders on cnn tonight (caught it on sat radio) said you wanna make America healthy again?

- medicare for all

- take on pharmaceutical and  insurance companies to reduce costs

- vaccinate kids

he was matter of fact and rather convincing.

Yeah. Because it’s not that difficult to explain and Bernie does it well. Meanwhile, psychopath up above is probably going to recommend testicle tanning soon.

I’m cracking up at the image of RFK explaining how to count sperm ....

Do you think all those jars at that institution east of Austin are going to now become government property?

From the "even a dumbass piece of shit grifter broken clock is right twice a day" department, I'm totally on board with banning prescription drug advertising.

Bernie wants a ban, Trump wants more side effect disclosure in ads.

I would prefer an outright ban on DTC, but the argument is that that would trigger cases on 1st Amendment grounds. The ads are already mostly a recitation of adverse effects. I guess if you force them to read the whole package insert you could make the ads cost prohibitive and more annoying than they already are, but this doesn't get rid of them. The social media component is also a good area that needs some cleaning up. I don't have much hope that this actually does anything useful until we see actual enforcement and some skull cracking.

Great listen on MAHA….

It’s not inflammatory (no pun intended) and good. Discusses for profit agriculture, toxic food supply, and how MAHA gets the problems right (chronic illness is too high in the US), but the solutions are completely wrong. Talks about banning dyes, minimum wage, food deserts, fluoride in water, healthcare cost and system in the US, mRNA technology, how wellness went from a left wing fringe hippy movement to a "mainstream" conservative movement. Good listen.

This will never not be a great album

Yup.  Three iconic songs (yes, including "Jump") and a lot of solid deeper cuts.  And then it all went to hell.

Any chance you could share a synopsis?  An hour ten is quite some time.

Actually, I just checked and it's only 33 minutes. I think it'd be next to impossible not to know the singles like Jump, Panama, and Hot For Teacher. I'll Wait is a lesser known single but a really great song. Top Jimmy, Girl Gone Bad, and House of Pain are all solid deep cuts.

I listen at 1.5x and the beginning and end be are filler so it doesn’t s actually about 40-45 mins, but from memory …. For profit agriculture is a huge problem and that started in the 1970s - food quality (chief historical example was HFCS) and toxicity in food from the “cides” is a real issue, and you can totally see the problem when you are traveling to other countries and experience their food systems, food deserts in poor areas are a huge problem, banning dyes and adding cane sugar to cokes doesn’t address either of those problems. Chronic disease is a major problem, but exercise, vaccines and fluoride in water all prevent chronic disease - did you know dental problems is the number one chronic illness among kids (I think that’s what she said). MRNA technology will be as big as the discovery and invention of antibiotics and has applicability to so many vexing problems but cutting research won’t help, access to universal healthcare and better wages are the number 1 and number 2 things we can do to make amerce healthy as both of those have the highest correlation to poor outcomes. Wages specifically drive food choices and calorie dense foods / ultra processed foods is often what poor Americans can afford. I lost track on how wellness shifted to a conservative issue during COVID  it in the end she said make America healthy again should be bipartisan and science based but if we eat our veggies and go for a walk we’re well on our way.

she finished by saying academia failed us by shunning social media originally and by then giving up that space to whackadoos. I think academia has responded but there’s so much more needed for smart and accurate knowledge to get disseminated to the people.
