Those numbers would be awful if Tesla were a car company but see something something AI NVIDIA government contracts

Eh, the government contract thing is even more jazz hands (granted they all do this). Companies put out PRs all the time where they cite a massive government contract as a big win. But if you look at the wording/fine print, what they are is just in the acceptance phase where they are starting the work, but likely only getting a few bucks for initial work.

In other words, perfect for Elon.

Investors are just as stupid today as they have been throughout the long and insane growth of this massive tech bubble.  I have no doubt Elon will eventually stumble upon the correct magic tech-bro voodoo language to save his crumbling empire.  It's not like he has to actually come up with a functional product or service.  He just has to come up with some more made-up nonsense that investors will gobble up, and he's done it plenty of times before.   If building an actual business that can stand on its own merits were the task, he'd be fucked, just like 99% of tech executives.

Volkswagen has some of its ID buzz minivans rolling around Austin with autonomous stickers all over them (I’ve seen humans in the driver seats).

And they were driving in areas that weren’t shaped like a penis.

Every area is shaped like a penis, if you smush and twist your dick just the right way.

That's what @MissingInAction told me, anyway.

Nah.

Those pets.com commercials 25 years ago with Temu Triumph the Muppet dog were entertaining. Solid investment just based on that.

And here we are, living in a world where Chewy.com is profitable (albeit barely).  Maybe it's the lack of a puppet.

We live in the fucking boonies and have StarLink.  It's undergoing a major outage right now.  It had been literally flawless the last 10 months.

https://www.reuters.com/technology/starlink-says-it-is-experiencing-network-outage-2025-07-24/

Only 10 months?

but seriously Starlink had their longest outage ever, ~2 1/2 hours. It was reported widely:

Elon chimed in with zero help

as the outage continued …

finally with no root cause to report Starlink engineers reported all good.

I will just say I’m glad the place u used Starlink was progressive and took money from the last guy to build out fiber infrastructure and get it to my rural mountain house.

Unlike Texas.

Musk ordered shutdown of Starlink satellite service as Ukraine retook territory from Russia

A previously unreported order by Elon Musk to cut satellite communications over a portion of Ukraine disrupted a counteroffensive by Kyiv in the autumn of 2022. Reuters investigated the billionaire's order and its implications for countries increasingly reliant on his Starlink internet service.

What could go wrong with depending on an evil billionaire for access to one of the fundamental needs of modern society: communication?

I swear to fucking God, we're just living out the plot lines of half a dozen different Bond villains, except we're elevating the villains to god status, and shitting all over anyone who dares ask "so....maybe we SHOULDN'T turn over all of society to an evil fuck with a volcano lair?"

maybe deciding to allow giant digital media corporations to exploit the neurochemical drama of our children for profit was a bad call

One party believes its fundamental infrastructure like electricity or water

Another thinks it’s for an autistic billionaire to control

It didn't take a single step, which is the hardest thing for robots to do.  I'm sure it will do that about as well as Tesla cars can drive themselves.
