I am happy as hell that trump's party turned into a bust, but I am unhappy that it came at the expense of the Army.  This should have been a celebration for a fighting force that has done so much for our country.  Yes, there's good and bad in the history of its use, but the Army has protected us from the likes of Jeff Davis, Tojo, and Hitler.  It should have been able to celebrate without the celebration being highjacked by the orange clown.
Happy Birthday, Army!

I like that the armed forces got specific callouts from several speakers at the Capitol yesterday. Formed to fight against kings, and still on the job today. The mission has never changed.

the us 3rd regiment is the oldest in the army

they protect the unknown soldier at arlington and are the color guard for the fallen when they arrive at andrews

and they literally are chartered with OFFICIAL cosplay - not aggy cosplay - yesterday was not a one-time thing - they've been doing this forever

So professional cosplayers with a modern twist (women, no drummer boys).   Ceremonial units have their place, and I like that they are an homage to the past and keep alive some of the information that would be otherwise lost and I hope to one day get to row on that Greek trireme or atleast see it.  But the event was a circus for a wannabe king.

I also like seeing old equipment like the Shermans at a museum and seeing them at a local event, or my neighborhood F4 Phantom was fun.   Seeing it in an official capacity sponsored by the grifting for the glory of trump makes it all distasteful.

I am angry about the military being used as a pawn one one hand to be celebrated while their brethren are simultaneously, being use to oppress American civilians.

So just ignore my grumblings.

I guess hope always springs eternal with me, but yesterday felt different. It was both his parade and the protests. The juxtaposition of the two can’t be ignored. This energy is contagious. I know I’m not alone, but I was energized by being amongst so many diverse people who are pissed off. I think the emperor was finally naked in front of everyone. Plus his flip flop on deportations for certain groups. This is the weakest he’s ever looked. Which is probably the most dangerous time

Yeah, again, I think this was a US Army thing long before it was Eeyore's Birthday.

So I am certainly not going to fault soldiers for participating.  Particularly those with a highly ceremonial role, who would be expected to participate in whatever the Army chose to do for its birthday.

I suppose strictly speaking, once this became a propaganda tool, we could hope for some sort of boycott or insubordination.  But the orders in that case would be a weird mixture of legitimate and illegitimate that it would be hard to ask them to disobey.

You’re welcome to your ignorant views — and they are no doubt built upon ignorance — but internet people pretending to love their country and their community and calling active duty soldiers “cosplayers” is the height of irony.

Simma down and have a gummy.   You completely ignored this part.

The active duty marines picked their king over the country this week.  Yeah, it is cosplay.  Dress-up, or whatever else we want to call it.

I believe he was referring to the marine who posted that they were trigger-happy and ready to get at the protesters in LA.   I’m sorry if your snow flaky ass has a sad by that comment.   When you explain to me why a huge portion of the J6 insurrectionist were former or current military, I will give a damn about a comment about cosplay.

If America was a better country, we would idolize the military less and educators more.

It would not bother me one bit if the rest of the world -- all of it -- instituted a travel ban against United States citizens.

Not while I’m in Italy please. I love it here.  Lots of good discussion tonight about the turnout for Dear Leaders parade.

Well, I was thinking about a ban on entering, not leaving.

The site behavior is weird. I quoted jimmyjazz, and your quote attributed to me what jimmyjazz said.

Some people just suck at marching. However, one would think for a big event like this they wouldn't pick those people to be marching.

some people in fact do suck at it.  but watch the video at the link, that’s an entire company who appears to suck at marching…and there’s zero possibility that an entire unit simultaneously sucks at marching.

that was by design…a silent but very obvious protest.  the question is who are what they’re protesting.  was it that they had to be there, was it Trump, was it Hegseth?

one of my offices is in Harker Heights, and about 1/3 of our clients in that office are associated in some capacity with the Army, be it active, retired, guard or reserve.  i’ve asked a few of our clients in leadership positions how the transition is going and unprompted you instantly get some form of “man, fuck SecDef deep in his goat ass.”

@scottsins can verify…

so my money is that’s directed towards and meant to embarrass Hegseth

Melania has had a ban on entering for a decade.

The black bottom and red top is also the Ukrainian flag of distress. Equivalent to the Stars and Stripes upside down here.

Truly astounding the mental gymnastics Christians will employ to judge others and place themselves in a position of moral “superiority”. All the while shitting upon the actual teachings of Jesus. Hate filled pieces of shit.

Remember how that started? "Wait, they're just going to lie about something where there is tons of photo and video evidence? Why would they do that?"

We were so young and naive.

2003/2004 should've been the wake-up.call with all the blanket lies coming out of the Bush administration in both that election and the lead-in to the Iraq invasion.

Anyone else remember this quote?

The aide said that guys like me were 'in what we call the reality-based community,' which he defined as people who 'believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.' [...] 'That's not the way the world really works anymore,' he continued. 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors...and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do'.

100%  they were sitting around trying to come up with a number of attendees and someone had 250th anniversary in their tiny brain so they just added the 000’s and went with that.

this ended up projecting the exact opposite image to the world they were hoping for…instead of strength, we projected weakness; instead of solidarity, we exposed division; instead of organization, we showed chaos and disorder; instead of shared interest and mission, there was apathy in abundance; and on and on, ad infinitum.

we just exposed to the entire world…if they didn’t already know…the utter incompetence of our leadership and we used what is considered to be strongest military force known to mankind as the vehicle to convey that message.

Trump and his goons truly believe that fear of us and concern for consequences are what motivates other nations to deal with us…they are the very core of their ontology. in real life at that level that is rarely the case.  but if they were a factor, they are no longer.

Trump flipped over a 3 of clubs after he acted like he was holding an ace of spades.  and he didn’t even need to play that card…he did it on his own

we now may as well lay back, relax and enjoy the inevitable sodomy that is sure to come our way because there’s not a goddamn thing we can do about it.

3 of clubs you say? That’s a weird coincidence. Just saw this appearance by Harry Anderson on an old rerun of SNL.
