They have no idea what they are doing.

About a week before I got married in a six-minute Methodist wedding ceremony, I had the brilliant idea to call someone at the Catholic church to see if I needed to fill out some form so I, a Catholic, could get permission to get married with the Methodists.  I called a Msgr. Botik at Christ the King Catholic Church, and after I told him my situation, he told me I had to cancel the wedding.

"If you marry that woman, in that Church, you will be a heartbeat over hell."  I told him I would get back to him.  He actually called me and left voice messages the next few days.

Christ the King is the Park Cities church.  I kicked myself for not calling Holy Trinity Catholic Church - the gay Catholic Church in Oak Lawn.  I actually walked in and told a priest over there what the Monsignor had told me. "Oh that's Father Botik - he's pre-Vatican II.  Get married, and then in a couple of years bring you wife by and maybe we can convert her."

Yeah.  I grew up Catholic (catholic schools, the whole 9 yards, which also meant that some of my lifelong friends are dyed-in-the-wool Catholics).  When I told some of them I was marrying my non-Catholic wife (at the time, Methodist, as she grew up in the Methodist church), a couple of them even commented "but....she's not Catholic!"  Nope, she's not.  And, we're getting married in her family's church (St. Luke's - gotDAMN is that a white folks protestant church).  To make it even better, I'm now active in leadership in the PCUSA Presbyterian church, where my wife is an ordained minister.  Kinda makes my friends' heads spin, but the cool part is that the priests and nuns who educated both of us (yep, wife went to Catholic school for a while - she was regularly "the protestant" in various classes) think it's pretty cool, and we've had a lot of good visits over theology with them over the years.

Naah, here's how this plays out.

Quote

The news, however, has spurred concern that the military could be deployed within the US and abroad to combat sanctioned criminal groups like the Sinaloa Cartel, Tren de Aragua and Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13).

First, authorize the US military to engage in combat actions within the US against "invading terrorist groups Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa Cartel, and El Night-o Shift-o at El Taco Bell."  Then, declare -- unilaterally, without any actual due process or adjudication by any body (remember, "you don't get due process if you're an illegal" is their firm position) -- that this group or that group of brown people here or there are members of such terrorist groups, and hit em with Fallujah-style combat operations.  Sure, a few walls will get blasted down, a few belts of .50 cal will be unloaded into a fucking apartment or fruit-pickers' shack or whatnot, but why do you hate America and purifying the blood of our country?

This is a plan to use military force against whoever the regime wishes, inside our own borders.  Which, again, they've told us repeatedly is EXACTLY what they intend to do.

Yeah flooding the economy with money when tariffs are already inflationary should work out well. But Cletus will be thrilled because money.

He wrote checks he couldn't cash in his last presidency as well.  Fucking COVID checks.

We're paying down the debt!  No, we're printing more money!  What exactly are we doing?

It's like they all sit in the romper room in the morning and see who can come up with the dumb idea of the day.

You obviously are not on the FOX News distribution list.  They send US guns, not the other way around.  #cough

I love Christianity but it's hard not to despise certain Christians especially those who are so far removed from what the New Testament preaches and who use the Gospel to justify their hatred of others.

It's not "certain Christians", it's the great majority of them.

Kirk is a catch-22. Yes, that condensed, creepy, smarmy little face is asking to be punched. But any subsequent change in his appearance couldn't be anything but an improvement.

"I was in Wichita Falls for a wedding.  A Catholic wedding.  Where the reception was alcohol-free.  The long drive home down plenty of barren stretches of road gave me ample time to ponder exactly which of my many sins that experience was punishment for, but in spite of my multitude of sins . . . some of which are so appalling, I didn't enjoy even a brief memory of them . . . I couldn't come up with a single one worthy of the punishment of a dry Catholic wedding reception in Wichita Falls."

There.  Just wrote the first paragraph of my novel.

As a teenager, my mom and her mother forced my older sister and me to attend a winter wedding at a community church in OKC. When we were told our sunday would be spent at said church, my sister and I grew angry. We did not know these distant relatives and had no interest in their wedding.

Did I mention the wedding was to take place during the super bowl? Yeah. They wanted to ruin a great American holiday. Upon further questioning about what kind of heretics would do such a thing, my sister became convinced we were attending a cult wedding. My grandmother countered by saying that they couldn’t possibly be a cult; the couple was doing so well financially, they weee honeymooning in Switzerland.

As we suffered through the wedding ceremony, we found that a) we had to sit through a sermon b) they were going on a mission to switzerland c) they passed around a collection plate during the ceremony to help fund the mission

The ceremony was a bore. No music. No alcohol. I missed the entire super bowl.

That was the day I began losing my religion.

The annoying ones my wife knew that made her want to attend this wedding did not drink any alcohol except the offering wine.

Yeah I went to a wedding in 2021 for two Italian Catholics and not only did everyone get a bottle of wine with their name on it, but the reception was down in Jersey. Drove an hour to ge there to watch all these Italians get trashed as well as everyone else there. I had stopped drinking well before then, but it was impressive to watch.

Most of my more intimate exposure to Catholics is through Jesuit priests, so I'm a bit shocked to hear that from anyone of a surly generation in most of Texas.

And, I'm also a bit shocked to hear that from CTK.  Although it is the PC Catlick church, being Catlick in the PC is kind of non-conformist in and of itself and they run an elementary school, so I am surprised it was that retrograde.

The Jesuit priests I've known might have said that between gulps of wine, and then burst out laughing and made an excommunication joke.

Stop expecting posters to like your contributions that suck and getting mad when they don’t. Also your handle and profile pic screams old man asshole douchebag dumbfuck clown. Hope that helps!

I thought about just leaving this really odd but telling post alone, but . . .

@Elvis What would possess you to open a thread about the decline of America and the destruction of our democracy and post a sales video about a multi-million dollar yacht for billionaires?

Weren't you trying to sell your used Chevy Avalanche a couple of years ago?  There's a bumpsticker around these days that says "You're closer to being homeless than to being a billionaire."  I've seen your house, dude.  You better hope to God for some of that good old fashioned Biden stability, because if things keep up you're going to wish you had that Avalanche so you could put a camper on the back.

I attended a baptist wedding not too long ago, and I swear about half of it was how women should submit to their husbands. It was disgusting.

The best part of it is the women that agree. Meanwhile my wife gets mad I don’t tell her I am taking the day off ( I get 8 weeks and she gets 2 ). Many year ago she woke me up saying I was almost lay and I said I’m off today. She was shocked and said I didn’t know and I said you didn’t need to know. Go to work.
