you and @royiv need a jump to conclusions mat.

Hey, at least those shoes are Guccis. Was making a joke about how shitty our schools are in Texas.

Ok. But actually my kids are getting a pretty damn good education right now - politics haven’t quite reached advanced classes in our district. I’ve got a drum major and a budding all state musician in the other, they are hitting their stride and doing well. So even if I could get everyone to agree to up and move it would be at some significant risk to their near term success. Just a really shitty fucking situation all around. We will make it just fine but it doesn’t mean I’m going to have caviar and champagne along the way - well I might - but there will be some solid shit eating sandwiches days and nights to go with it to be sure.

I mean you edited the post and added some pretty relevant context that was missing on what all the outside forces were on the situation. You are in an objectively fucked situation and that sucks donkey ass.

and of Texas passes this absolute healthcare ban you can be for damn sure the feds will try and then we will have legit refugees leaving the US.

We all go through shit and need to rip into some ass to release some pressure. I'm just glad we have a strong enough community and culture on this board where it doesn't devolve into poo flinging and slap fighting for serious stuff like this.

- Any ad copy stating they are a "Christian-owned business"

- The Jesus fish symbol ANYWHERE on their business materials, vehicles, etc.

ANY of those three, and RUN AWAY, don't walk away, from doing business with them.  Not just because they are MAGA (they almost certainly are), but because they will fuck you over in every possible way.  Overcharge, not perform, lie about what they did, etc. etc.

I have a friend who is a transactional attorney, and when she's doing due diligence and sees ANY of those features in a subcontract or somesuch, she flags that transaction/relationship for the client as a risk.  And she doesn't sugarcoat it - "I've been around long enough that I have to tell you, these things are red flags indicating someone who's going to fuck you over."

As a young man I worked for a GC.  I was transitioning to supervision; project superintendent.  We were trying out a new sub...I can't remember which trade, but the owner warned me "this guy just told me that he's a Christian about a half-dozen times, so keep a close watch on this asshole and don't approve any invoices for the owner to pay without checking with me first".

And the owner went to a Catholic Church every Sunday without fail.

IMO, these are who are going to have to start publically speaking up.  He has a huge following.  I want as many as possibly speaking up.

I can’t stand Portnoy, but I totally agree. He reaches a big demographic that needs to wake up to reality. Even if just questioning a few things like he did sows a little bit of doubt in the minds of the disciples, it’s a good thing. I’ll welcome anyone that helps wake this country up to what is happening as an ally.

I mean, it really is amazing, isn't it?  Anyone with any real-world experience knows that "outwardly showy 'Christians'" are the fucking WORST.  Hell, I remember it from my days waiting tables as a college student.  If you saw one of your tables doing this before the meal, in full view of the world (and often putting on a show of it):

giving-thanks-faithfully.png

....you knew you were 1) about to get abused/treated like absolute shit, and 2) tipped for shit.

I mean, it's a fucking MEME:

The experience and take is fucking UNIVERSAL, and beyond debate.  Pretty fucking shitty indictment of American "Christianity" right there.

Our overall tax burden went up significantly when we moved from AZ to Texas. In AZ we paid an income tax, sales tax and property tax on our house and vehicles. Texas is a low tax state for businesses, not citizens.

None of the folks I'm talking about ever went to anything so refined as a seminary.  They're of the tradition of the Bible being whatever they say it is, and Christianity being so "personal" that God talks to them directly and therefore their word is The Word.

In other words, they're just some dumbass hicks who have no greater training or studying into theology than your average idiot, despite the fact that there have been big brained folks lifting heavy theological rocks for oh, about 2000 years now.

Yeah, my uncle too actually, he is a retired Episcopalian priest. He went to places you never think, he was in Baltimore in the 80's, and was absolutely loved by his all black congregation. It was wild compared to all the "Christian" crooks I've encountered over my life.

Ha, I can introduce you to some. Up in Roanoke, the congregation paid the preacher and his son to drive two Bentleys in gods name.

There are few places on earth where the crushing gravity of near-infinite ignorance and stupidity can be found than in any place that calls itself a "Bible Church."  It's like insisting that being a self-trained fighter pilot is the way to go.  Shit, my wife teaches a class with a friend of hers, and watching and listening to them wrestle with the history and theology of literally 6-8 verses in one chapter, reviewing multiple translations (because if you don't read the original text, you're already off-course) and writings on the various contexts of the passage, blows me away.  And it grants so much meaning and impact to the theology.

As opposed to Cletus, who done read the Bible cover to cover 4 times, in the original English just like Jesus talked, so he's got it all figured out.

That's the hell of it.  As much as I HATE American "Christians," one of the main reasons I do is because there are plenty of examples of people who do it RIGHT.  And the contrast...is fucking brutally stark.  Hold up people who actually walk the walk next to American "Christians," and you see in stark relief what giant pieces of shit those self-declared "Christians" really are.

For most New Testament stuff, mostly koine Greek (remember, the Gospels were largely WRITTEN something like 70-100 years, or longer, after-the-fact).  For OT stuff, mostly Hebrew, but some Aramaic there.

Wait, they weren’t first hand accounts written by the people who were there, near contemporaneously?  Shocking.  How is Jesus quoted with the red letters?

Exactly. Most people don’t know this, but there are subtle distinctions on the Bible’s direction on in-vitro fertilization due to language differences.

Sure - per my wife, the reasoning is a stewpot of legitimate concerns about authenticity and good old-fashioned "we don't like what this says because it would threaten our personal political interests/goals, so let's exclude it."

The "Bible" is a mess.  Insisting that you're studying the full measure of Christianity by just reading the English translation of certain writings that were approved by politically motivated men is a recipe for missing the mark.....AND, because there's so much play in the steering wheel, "the mark" is always going to be impossible to hit perfectly.  So, some humility and some "but we may have this wrong" is necessary.

She specifies the NY office of the FBI, which is notoriously a bunch of Republicans who've been ratfucking Dems for years. It wouldn't really make sense to target them in the purge. This feels like Bondi and some others in the administration had actually convinced themselves that a lot of Epstein files were way more damning for Democrats than Republicans, while the New York office knew the truth so hid/destroyed them, and now they're all scrambling for some explanation for why they don't have anything on any Dems.

I feel like you haven't been watching closely. It's not enough to be Republican to be safe. You have to be a certain type of Republican. In fact, not being enough of a certain type of Republican is the best way to commit political suicide right now.

This isn't about purging Democrats. This is about purging anyone who is not sufficiently loyal.

If someone tried to tell me the FBI traditionally has been a Democratic Party bastion in the federal government I'd laugh in their face. It's not a matter of if the FBI has been sufficiently progressive or conservative in their outlook. The Trump administration wants complete control of the domestic security force.

Judicial system.

Military.

Internal police force.

That's how you take over complete control of the government. After that you control other mechanisms, too, including the media. but first you need to control the judiciary, the military, and domestic security. If the Trump administration has their way, I assume we're going to see some mechanism to purge judges at some point. Could be a reconstituted FBI that does it, if they're successful.
