I question the long term economic analysis of trading a Texas degree with minimal comp for an Arkansas State degree with a few hundred K. I get that 20 year olds and their “agents” might make that decision, because math is hard.

Yeah...if players gave a fuck about that, Northwestern would be killing it in the portal.

On paper, maybe. We won't know if they really did well until next year.

Did Harris fuck up so many of these meetings?

Work through the mentality of this.

What's more likely?

That Harris just goes rogue and fucks up meeting after meeting after meeting with, coincidentally, only the players that either didn't produce anything in 2025 or were/are having people brought in from the portal at their position?

Or that most of those players in those positions are being offered less money than they made last year and see the team trying to add players from the portal in their positions as recruiting over them? So they are choosing to leave and go elsewhere to both make more money and have a starting job?

Gerry said Barnes told him he had 8 different teams contact him with offers to start next season within 30 min of it going public he's in the portal.

It doesn't matter if Harris, Sark, Trump, Biden, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, or the fucking Buddha are the ones giving them that news.

You give Texas the benefit of the doubt all the time, Indiana is probably deserving of that too.

Why? If him insulting the morons made them go away he could have cleaned this place up and made it respectable years ago.

Even when he bans a lot of the idiots and deletes access to posting they just pop back up as some new stupid name. He can't get rid of them, they're like some super species of roach.

Both things can be true. Ideally you have a GM who can articulate the trajectory a player is on within the program, what that envisioned role is worth and what the player can do to change that role. There’s also a level of consistency, professionalism and engagement you want from someone in that role, which it doesn’t seem like Harris is bringing.

There was an article talking about what TCU(?) was doing to prepare for the portal. They focused their portal scouting on players from the region, those they had previously recruited or those who have some connection to the state or program. Judging from our pursuit of the Michigan olinemen we don’t have that philosophy, and depending on how things wrap up that could be an expensive and damaging self inflicted wound.

We'd also have to believe that all the other GMs are equally inept what with other blue blood rosters draining of that bottom/middle (relative to starters) talent.

They saw enough that Owens and Ffrench were seemingly last on the depth chart for this year. Doesn't really mean they would be busts two years from now. But, yes, coaches should have a good idea on where they are and how much they are worth the effort/$$$.

That combined with you can't pay people to sit the bench anymore. The top players you need have gotten way too expensive. Teams have to put their resources in those players and a few players like a Justice Terry or Lance Jackson they anticipate developing into top level starters in a year.

Everyone else is getting offered peanuts in comparison. The days of paying big money out of HS for anyone not projected to be a major star have to be over. I doubt any mid to high 4 star guy gets offered anywhere near what they have in the past. This is just that transition year where last year's recruits were paid on the old model but this year's portal is working off the new rev share model.

There is way more money than competence in college football, probably football in general.

TCU doesn't have the clout we do. It's going to be tough for them to pull nationally from the top of the portal.

I dont blame Sark for going all out at the top only for guys who are the best. The Michigan guys are starters on a Big 10 team that is known for OL development. They pushed hard for Baugh. They're pushing hard for Coleman. They took their shots at the top and are pivoting to the next level and starting to land targets.

They absolutely need to have scouts scour the entirety of college football at every level for talent that's being developed. No matter where it is located.

As far the players in the portal, that's happening with every top level program. We had the #1 recruiting class out of HS last year. Those guys were crazy expensive, and with the change to the system this year in rev share you just can't afford to pay the ones that are not developing quick enough what they made last year to sit the bench. All these teams around the country have rev share money and starting jobs to throw at these guys. No one is convincing them to stay without offering up that bump in pay.

It's been posted before but interesting to see where UT's targets sit. Raleek had good blocking (ASU is hidden under Nebraska). Smothers did not. Texas in the laughable zone.

YAC is obviously only one metric for RBs that doesn't favor smaller guys like Raleek.

Ohio State boards look a lot like ours, if not worst, because they are getting hit hard by the portal.
