Son of baconator is $3 at Wendy's. I'm not a fast food guy in general but I am a guy that is trying to feed a teenager out occasionally for less than $25, which is literally what it costs these days for pizza, fast food, Jimmy Johns, whatever. Plus you can customize it in the app, get rid of the mayo and cheese if you so choose. 6 patties for $9 isn't bad, and the Wendy's burger beats the shit out of a McDonald's burger.

If you want to figure out how to fast food, talk with a teen/young adult on a limited budget.  They have absolutely figured out how to game the system.  The boy comes home to visit, and he'll come to the house with a sack-o-food from Taco Bell, McD's, what have you, for under $10.

Yep I think it's a carryout only special. Unfortunately the kid won't eat Dominos or LC. He takes after me and is a pizza snob. He won't even eat Jets anymore.

Went today since it’s close to the office and wtf a double cheeseburger is 4.39?  I used the app deal for a second one for 29 cents so it was 5 dollars for 2 but god damn

I also don't get the CFA love.  The chicken sandwich is fine.  Their nuggets are tasty.  Their waffle fries may be the worst in the business.  As limp and bland as their dominant culture.

When done right, Fil-A can slam. Case in point: The hospital where I work has a CFA in the cafeteria that (/noracist) is staffed almost entirely by older African-American ladies. The cooks, the register, etc. They are the friendliest, know everyone by name, and know your usual order. And they by God have ruined me on every outside CFA: Every sammich (spicy or reg) is shatteringly crispy. Fries are made to order, cooked 2x as long as at a reg CFA, and are handed to you “burn your fingers” hot. Oh, and there’s no such thing as an 8-piece or 12-piece nug; you’ll always get minimum 10 or 14, respectively. Ask for two sauces? You get handed five.

In other words, the anti Popeye’s experience.

Unrelated: I have gained 15 pounds since it opened.

This thread has inspired me to start gathering data for my next scholarly journal article (planning to submit to the Annals of Improbable Research). Preliminary title: "Give a shit vs. Give 'em shit: Franchise quality and service disparities in McMansionville."

Which neighborhoods should I visit? How much must I eat? Does the number of A&M graduates behind the counter make a difference? What other factors should I consider? I welcome all methodology suggestions and other advice.

Edit: And in a serendipitous coincidence, the current edition of the annals just happens to be titled ...v31i6-450x582.jpg

p.s. feel free to derail thread even further by letting me know whether "serendipitous coincidence" is redundant. Or not.

Yeah my teenagers are all over the apps.  There's always a deal somewhere.  Which is great because they eat like fiends and usually pay for it themselves instead of taking me up on my offer of the aforementioned homemade green bell pepper and onion welfare burger on Wonder bread.

Always cracks me up when hospital cafeterias and food courts have fast food options. It’s a great way to ensure your cath lab stays busy.

I don't eat places that kill people. It's a shame cuz I really liked McDonalds.

I like the double or triple cheeseburger extra pickles mustard add lettuce and Mac sauce.

Before they changed the ordering system I would get a double quarter pounder big Mac style.

Hot n spicys used to fucking slap. Now they are cardboard and taste like shit.

McDonald's fries are god damned incredible

Well, I’ll cross you off the invite list to my Friday shindig at Jack the Ripper’s Grill and Games.
Damned shame. They have a skee-ball setup that lets you try to roll the ball into the knife wounds of a dead prostitute for points. It’s quite popular. Saw Craig James there just last week.

the app is the bomb. Used to be able to save 20% on every order over like $5. they probably lost so much money on that deal that its no longer there.

I bet if you took a small mcdonalds fry and dumped it in a large holder, it probably comes close to a large portion, so I always get small since its almost $2 cheaper. sucks they doubled their prices of cokes from $1 any size to like $2.87 now or whatever rip off it is. fuck we had it so good, and we didnt know it. App brings us back to some of those times but you gotta work for it

saw deal for medium fries gratis with other order. accidentally selected 'use deal in store' on mcd app so it locked me out for 15 minutes (no, i haven't actually used that deal). so i went to the kiosk which for some reason decided i actually needed to select the medium sized fries, but instead of giving me any sort of input option just presented me with a blank screen.

so i left and went down the street to popeyes.

also how the fuck is a mcflurry not available for reward?

I’ve only used one a couple time, but the self ordering kiosks are garbage.  The path to “checkout” is nonsensical.  Not sure if that’s intentional to keep someone browsing but my god it isn’t a rational process

Popeye's chicken and mac&cheese from CFA can be a winner.
Fuck Popeyes for not making their deliberately shitty dirty rice any more.

Best family inappropriate group laugh ever.  We dropped the boy off at uni in the UK literally the night that Queen Elizabeth died.  The next day, everything in the country was set up for full mourning.  I mean, EVERYTHING.  Including these:

queen-tweets-05.jpg

You could be silent for a moment in mourning for the monarch, then boop her nose to clear the screen, and order your filet o fish as usual.

It’s not anyone’s personality. There’s better options for similar prices, with the fast food inflation going on. It’s quick, it’s nostalgic, it’s consistent.

Wendy’s has a better burger. McD has the better breakfast. Chick fil a has better chicken, assuming you don’t want to go to Popeyes and throw hands

Please put some respect on the Wendy's breakfast Baconator.

I love them because I hate dealing with people, besides the kiosk has a higher IQ than your average McDonalds employee

my reference wasn't specific to McDonalds my bad I didn't make that clear but I just find the apps for most places so much easier.

Service and food at my closest Popeye's are actually surprisingly good.  The staff is reasonably pleasant.  I have no idea why but I'm okay with it.

franchise ownership makes all the difference in the world

if the owner cares, you'll see it in the results

Had a buddy years ago that was a dentist.  He lectured parents of pediatric patients about effects of candy and cokes.  He’d pump raisins as the perfect sweet food.  Put one of those little boxes of sunmaid raisins in their goody bag with their ninja turtle toothbrush and toothpaste.

He said these raisins are like sugar bombs that just stick to teeth.  Perfect little cavity makers.  Gotta make future biz somehow.

I have a good one by me as well. It was a little disarming the first couple times. I felt like a wild deer slowly approaching a family.

"Wait - y'all aren't going to fuck my order up? Your drive thru speaker actually works? You are actually open in accordance with the hours posted on google?"

I was a stupid parent.  I actually thought it important to expand and educate my son’s palate.  It’s stupid.  Don’t do it.  Teaching a 6 year old to prefer a ribeye over hot dog. Stupid. Sushi over a happy meal.  Fajitas over a taco.  Shrimp over fish sticks.  Fuck that shit. A 7th grader can eat $100 of sushi with no issue.  Save your money.  Teach em that chicken necks and collards are gourmet fare.

Not at all.  My DiL is a dentist.  I relayed this story as an idea for her practice.  She didn’t cater to it.

Preach. We fucked that up as well.
That said, when the boys get older and really need food volume, and start spending their own money…they learn how to eat cheap.
