Just wanted to say this thread is a mod creation, I had nothing to do with it.  It's a split from the DT rains thread.

it was an actual thread - i think it was up to 20ish posts before the sanitation crew stepped in

Yeah, I started it because it was inevitable, but I guess whoever owns the first post chronologically that was moved over gets the blame.

So did Abbott and co blame a teacher for leaving a door open on the dam?

the dark money focus groups are working overtime on the talking points. they will be unveiled on the sunday shows, and they're going to point the finger at the few civil servant climate scientists who weren't DOGE'd or bullied out yet.

I disagree completely.  People are venting their anger not just about this event but about party politics in general.  Just look at the comments from all of the usual suspects about "which team" is responsible.  I'm angry about it too but that's not what this thread is.  There are current ongoing rain events.  That's what this thread is.

I'll explain it to you:

  • Rain, in amounts absorbed by the earth or handled by normal or routine collection is OK,
  • Rain that exceeds that amount is dangerous,
  • One of the things government is supposed to do is protect people.  You know, police, firemen, etc.  This costs money,
  • Government is big enough to do things for "the public good."  So, costly things like lighthouses are maintained by the governments, not the private sector, which makes all decisions on profit & loss,
  • The funding requests come from experts who know all about "1000 year floods" and "worst case basis" and all that, plus an idea of what to expect for the next 20-40 years.  They have the education and experience for this.  Kind of like how civil engineers knew how to thick to make the walls of Tom Mueller Dam.
  • If for whatever reason this system of people and resources is interrupted, there can be problems.
  • When there are problems, like maybe someone's house flooding, people want to know why.  The normal response would be to fix the problem, maybe one that shouldn't exist in the first place.

Let me know that you're tracking with all this and I'll continue.

Well I didn't create it, and I'm the first poster.

EXACTLY. It is not partisan to note that a given politician performed poorly at his or her job. It’s not about policy or ideology. We’re talking about the basic blocking and tackling of state governance. And these fucking clowns went on stage and shit themselves on a live broadcast in front of God and Texas. Even fucking TexAgs saw it clearly for the distasteful brown nosing circus that it was, for Christ’s sake.

But a handful of manbabies on the DT board can’t bear the embarrassment of their own sycophantic support for self-adulating narcissist windbags. Because they’re spoiled fail-children who have never had to face the consequences of any of their lifetimes of bumbling fuckups.

For fuck’s sake. Grow up and learn to absorb uncomfortable ideas without crying to the board police like a giant fucking pussy.

Less self aware than aggies. Let that sink in.

I'm having trouble finding this. Anyone have a link for me to post on a very nitpicky board I post on?

Never mind. I found it on his FB page.

The people complaining about this being politicized are legitimately stupid.

Try to understand this: the funding for disaster response in this country was recently slashed, for political reasons, and now we have a major disaster.  No one is adding politics to the discussion.  You want to remove politics from the discussion, and you can't, because politics is an integral part of the whole sad story.

100%.

And, I'm just curious ... was the Jim Spencer post moved here from the DT thread or was it actually posted here after the 'sanitation crew' wrecked shit?

If it was moved ... well ... why in the actual fuck?

You try to explain it to magats during election season, and it's you libruls have TDS and are just jealous of his plans to make America more efficient.

Try to discuss it with regard to an actual catastrophe or emergency, and it's nOpOlOtIcS!!!

They've got all the bases covered.

Well, at least @utee94 won’t get his feelings hurt or have to confront difficult realities.

utee94 is a good guy I think and not actually a Trumper and probably considers himself pretty apolitical.  But in that may have his head a bit in the sand about what Trump is doing to our country.  The thrall in which Trump holds hardcore red state politicians like Texas' is something to behold and really fucking disgusting and un-Texan.

Let me help:

  • We are sorry any children, anyone really, died,
  • If you vote Republican they either enact policies, or listen to things other than facts (Jesus), or cut budgets for the very entities that could prevent things like this from happening,
  • We are concerned that with other disasters looming, this will be a foreshadowing of something significantly worse.

Let me know if you understand what I just typed.

That was not was said, but it's better than what he said.

I know I turned my alerts off a couple of cop injuries ago. An alert about an incident 8 hours away from my house and at 3am.

I guess we as individuals are allowed to ignore the annoying and intrusive Amber, Blue, and Silver alerts.  Personally, I keep the Severe Events activated because they have actually alerted me to things I didn't know were going on.

But, if you have responsibility for a bunch of other people, I don't think you are or should be allowed to turn those off.

But, even had the camp directors and others responsible had them on, it sounds like they may not have gotten anything.  Still, there's weather radio and I think it's incumbent on LEO and county officials to take seriously and notify places like camps and schools of severe situations in unincorporated areas.

All you fuckers that continue to vote red, you’ve had the wheel for 31 years.  1994 was the last time a Democrat won a statewide race in this state.  All you do is continually bitch about how bad things are and you’ve had 31 years. How many do you need?

Just give it a few more decades. They’ll get things headed in the right direction soon enough.
