Like many of you been decompressing from all the awful news. I do think that the locals felt and maybe some still do that their version of a warning system was more than adequate. However upsetting and rage inducing that is. I also think their big fear bc of the road situation coming in and out of places like Hunt, Ingram and Kerrville was telling people to evacuate and getting them killed that way.

As a Waldemar camper who suffered thru 8 years of pick ups there aren’t many ways in/out of places. Most of the time only one way.

if anyone has any helpful information to share about grieving or helping to talk to others who are grieving I would appreciate it. My youngest cousin is really going through it. Both girls that my two cousins were trying to find have been found so I suppose that has to be the only blessing I can see. That they were found.

hugs to all y’all assholes.

I haven't flown my drone in probably 2 years, so things may have changed, but used to DJI didn't allow you to fly in a TFR unless you had gotten clearance. My guess is they disabled that in the ongoing fight between the DOJ/FAA and DJI.

I actually had used the FAA Drone app to bypass a TFR (getting permission to fly under 100 feet AGL). So I remember the old process pretty well. Been too busy the last few years to get the bird in the sky.

I usually rely on that automatic "grounding" feature of my Mavic along with word from my neighbor who is a retired SWA pilot and professional drone operator giving me the 411 on what's GO/NO GO.

looks like I need to rethink those protocols.  I DO NOT want a sit down with the FAA.  Ever.

Yeah, there is an app specifically for it that makes it more workable, but I'm on a computer, and its not great even there.

Yeah, I drone Youtuber I follow got caught several years back, FAA slapped them with a $10k fine, and threatened to seize the drone if he did not complete the commercial drone pilot license after paying the fine. (which is essentially a PPL).

That’s exactly right. The governor and the rest are already shielding the Kerr County judge and commissioners. They’ve been openly defiant when pressed for answers and cry any attempt to question the timeline, the decisions, or the failures is just “politics by losers.”

We’ve seen this playbook before in Uvalde. Greg Abbott — the guy who never hesitates to point fingers when it suits him, suddenly thinks accountability is off-limits when it lands on or near his doorstep. He’s more worried about controlling the headlines than missing children. We know how this ends. He’ll quash any criticism or findings of fact that don't suit his needs.

I dunno, doesn't seem to be changing Abbott's tactics so far. Imagine when being question who is blame calling those people (the parents of dead children) losers...
https://www.rawstory.com/greg-abbott-2672976224/

Quote

Questions about Texas's emergency preparedness systems have swirled since the flood began over the weekend. When a reporter asked Abbott who was to blame for the devastation, Abbot shot back.

"You ask, and I'm going to use your words, 'Who is to blame?'" Abbott said. "Know this, that's the word choice of losers."

Quote

"Every football team makes mistakes," Abbott continued. "Know this, the losing football teams are the ones who try to point out who is to blame. The championship teams are the ones who say, 'Don't worry about it, man, we got this. We're going to make sure we go score again and win this game.' The way that winners talk is not to point fingers, they talk about solutions."

Man I bet those parents feel really silly now. Clearly they're not Championship Parents.

I took the tweet down bc it disappeared. There are a ton with those same pics but yes at one point pretty sure he lived in Austin. Appologies if not real. Was trying to find some happy amidst all the awful and that had popped up in my feed. Should have done more vetting. I typically do. I’m trying to organize meal trains for the parents of one of the girls who died and organize some other things for their two funerals and to make sure the parents will have what we are able to get for them, We received so many donations for the two girls: Greta and the other girl (I am not allowed to post her name) that we are trying to figure out what to do with the excess money.

again my apologies, I ain’t on FB, and I usually try to keep things within the rules, ahem.

SIAP I saw this and it was a masterful explanation. My heart is in a lot of places right now trying to help on different ways.

Several of the grandparents do or could get it with the snap of a finger. Not sure they would use it tbh or what good it would be. I think it would have to take the Hunt's getting involved before anything were to change.

Totally suspicious of you people but I have my daughter back, my next door neighbor girl back, daughter’s friends all good. Dallas friend’s kids made it thru. One of my close friends lost his daughter, and my other less close friend hasn’t found his yet. We are still shocked but the girls seem completely normal.

They may seem normal now there’s gonna come a day when they open up and talk about this and it really starts to affect them. Hopefully, it’s sooner than later so they don’t harbor this for too long. My kids finally opened up to me a decade after the fact of how much my military service being deployed and being gone, affected their lives and to me the whole time they seemed oblivious and like everything was great Kids are pretty resilient and awesome, but they will be affected and I pray for

Bluesky post is a post from the Texas Tribune, which has a reputation for factual reporting with a left center bias. So, no, not bias much. Your defense of the mayor is no defense at all, if he said what was reported and the report was a direct quote.

Holy shit, dude.

I'm not defending the Mayor at all.  Guy slept through the entire thing.  The fact that the Tribune is posting the headline to make it sound like the Mayor was competent and the Governor was lying, while at the same time there is evidence there were first responders stationed in the area (including a first response vehicle that was swept away) should tell you all you need to know.

I'm fucking burnt out listening to everyone Monday morning QBing the shit of all that's gone on.  Frankly, I want to read about factual recovery efforts or factual post-mortem on the entire response efforts, but the media scum telling half-truths and publishing articles 48 hours before they're ready is getting old fast.  Journalistic ambulance chasers trying to put blame on whomever isn't bringing back the victims, and right now, that's exactly what the families of the victims need.

I had a different take away. Mine was that communication between city, county, and state sucked ass. But, we are veering away from reported fact (the mayor’s claim, and the state’s claim) to opining on those claims, and I will stop here.

My purpose was to highlight your distrust of “biased reporting.”

Bluesky + Texas Tribune... Bias much?

Kerrville Mayor is in a world of shit right now, I'm sure he'll say anything to get the heat off him...

So the stories don't line up. Abbott said the state had “assets, resources and personnel” in place two days before a flood tore through the Hill Country.

In place for what, the flood that they didn't know was coming? (Insert MTG joke here)

If they knew a flood was coming two days ahead of time you would think that they would have raised the alarm but we still have hundreds of dead.

So either the Governor pre-positioned disaster recovery “assets, resources and personnel” ahead of time in a prescient act of preparedness for something the Mayor was not aware of or Abbott is bullshitting.

Insert the comic of the two red buttons with "Abbott knew the flood was coming but kept it on the DL" and "Abbott is lying"

Outside of everyone rolling your eyes at "media scum" while you attempt to laughably accuse any other organization of bias, all me to try and illustrate the big point here you seem to be missing. And it's obvious that you're missing it even though you've inadvertently outlined it in your post and don't seem to see the signifigance:

The governor, who is calling parents asking who to blame Losers, said that there was plenty of notice and resources sent. The mayor, who slept through it, says he has no clue what the governor is talking about. Two sides are saying opposite things, and one will be shown to be a blatant lie, and that motherfucker should face consequences. Now, it's rather obvious who you think the liar is, but whatever, either way, the sunlight means someone deserving should face some fucking consequences, and that's a fucking good thing.

But I guess you can go back to finding a solution that "brings back the victims" since "that's what the families of the victims need." I guess maybe you dabble in necromancy?

But I'd bet 100 bucks that, short of their dead family and friends coming back to life, victims would settle for some fucking justice and accountability for folks at fault, and THAT can maybe be uncovered by...checks notes...people asking fucking questions and writing articles about it

The first bolded part seems to be factual given what some of the articles and surrounding Counties and camps received.

Regarding the second bolded part from everything I've seen and read about this situation is that Kerr Co and Kerrville head of officials are directly to blame for this whole situation because of their bullshit excuses and CHOICE to not put as many safety precautions or alerts in place for the "most dangerous river valley in the United States."

the State apparently started the admin process to reimburse jurisdictions who rendered aid on July 2nd.  That's the whole ruckus caused by the Austin Firefighters Association saying the AFD Chief should be fired. So the State WAS doing something to prepare.
