Probably NIL isn't as good on the baseball side. For most people that would be decisive. not so much because football makes more money over the long term, but he would have to take a substantial immediate hit.

I don’t pay attention to baseball but don’t they get paid more than football in the pros?

The answer, of course, is both tacos.

Baseball players make a relatively small amount until they have been in the majors for 5 years.  Football players get more early on. Big difference is baseball has so much more longevity available to players that are good enough, that cumulative earnings shift to baseball.

Can I interest you in a Quinn Ewers thread?  It's well-aged and pairs nicely with a Coach Prime discussion.

Yes. And they have longer careers, too.

From CJ Vogel at OTF:

Texas LT Trevor Goosby will be sidelined for a practice or two more according to head coach Steve Sarkisian Monday morning. Again, Goosby is not expected to miss much time and it is likely he returns before the week concludes.

However, when Goosby went down Saturday during the scrimmage, it was third-year lineman Jaydon Chatman who entered the starting lineup at left tackle.

Today, I am told there was some movement on the first team offensive line which aligns with a theory I had earlier this month in regards to Neto Umeozulu and his versatility.

The Longhorns bumped Umeozulu out to left tackle, Cole Hutson out to left guard and plugged Connor Robertson into the lineup at center according to a source. We have heard often about the cross-training ability of many offensive linemen currently in Kyle Floods' room, and this further builds on that topic with another veteran getting snaps at tackle.

*****

That makes me feel like whatever the injury is to Goosby, it's worse than they're letting on right now.

Neto is the one of the great riddles of Longhorn football. I cannot remember ever hearing a negative report about him, but I still have yet to see him start a football game.

Of course, I question the OL shit on the OTF thread and those guys are all immediately defending it as no big deal. Vogel calls it "manufacturing depth". Right. Removing meaningful reps from 2 different positions with 12 days to go is not the old "let's get some crosstraining going" type of move. You don't rob two positions to solve for another one. That creates 3 problems. Omeozulu has never taken reps at OT while at Texas. What the fuck is happening here?

Is this ultimately an indictment on Chatman and Brooks? Neto at LT is bizarre.

“We recruited him hard,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said of Sayin. “I have a ton of respect for him. He’s a very gifted passer, really good player. He came to camp with us, I think, two years in a row. We have a lot of familiarly with him. He’s an elite passer, and he’s the kind of guy that can utilize all those great weapons around him. It’s going to pose a heck of a challenge.”

Sayin enrolled at Alabama in December 2023 after his monster career for Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, California, throwing for almost 8,000 yards and 85 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions, but transferred to Ohio State about a month later after Nick Saban announced his retirement. He was on the sideline for the Buckeyes during their 28-14 win over Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Cotton Bowl Classic.

He played in four games last season, completing 5 of 12 passes for 84 yards, including a 55-yard score against Western Michigan for his first collegiate touchdown pass.

Brooks is a true freshman. I doubt they want Brooks to get his feet wet in Columbus. This is not an indictment on him.

That went about as well as I would have guessed. They don’t do critical thinking or even really any kinds of discussion over there. They just thank the mods and say “hook em!!!!!!!!!” and move onto the next thread.

Wrong.  He once rushed for 4 yards, and the stadium went wild.

I'd be interested to know if Neto was playing LT for the entire practice or just certain periods or what the exact context was. Him taking a handful of reps at LT in the team periods is a lot different than him playing LT the whole practice from drills to srimmage settings to everything.

I agree it wouldn't make sense for him to slide out there if Goosby's injury was truly short-term, but it doesn't make sense that Chatman, who had a good scrimmage and is coming along nicely based on what the 9.95ers say, wouldn't take reps at the spot where he played 2 days prior.

All I was trying to point out is that CJ Vogel's nonchalance is fucking dumb. This isn't some sort of good thing. Don't portray it as such. Some of your reader base isn't the complete room temp IQ group that posts the most loudly. Jesus.

You may be onto something here.  It’s possible Hutson is the 3rd or 4th G. Sark has subbed at G more than anywhere else on the Oline the past two years albeit because that’s where we were inconsistent.  It could be about Robertson at C and Hutson at G and what the hell, throw Neto at LT for a brief run.  I can’t imagine that was the look for extended periods of practice.

But Sark knows we’re whipping ass so maybe he’s less concerned about locking in reps at this moment.

I'm starting to wonder if Daniel Cruz is just a bust. I expected him to maybe be at least the primary C backup this year, maybe push to start. But the staff seems to be going out of the way to put other guys ahead of him at C. That can't bode well. But maybe he's still undersized and not quite ready?

Gerry still talks highly of him. But I too was hoping he'd compete for starting C this year.

He is listed at 6'3 312 pounds so it doesn't feel like a size thing. He is listed as heavier than Hutson and the same weight as Robertson.

Just feels like a case where Robertson has a 2 year head start on him in the program. As mentioned above, Gerry has mentioned that the staff still thinks highly of him and Nate Kibble. They are only entering their second season in the program.
