Just watching the debate now. I may have missed it mentioned here, but what's up with Beto's throat?

That's what you pulled from watching the debate?

I mean it looked like an alien was trying to escape his body, so it kept my attention. I thought we might be witnessing our civilization come to an end as we're subjugated by whatever it is that was coming out of his neck. Fortunately for our species, Beto was able to hold whatever that was in. Call him a hero for humanity.

Is the point here that black people need to shut up and take being murdered in their own homes by the cops in stride?  This uppityness cannot stand?  I don't know what else to take from this.  Think about what he must believe of his own voters to post something like this as somehow damning of Beto, and what's really awful, is that he probably has good reason for holding that belief.

It's bizzare. But I think what he wanted to highlight was the "unarmed BLACKS killed by WHITE police officers" plus the context of a black church . To Cruz and his supporters, the way to talk about this is in race neutral terms with a heavy defense of cops. All lives matter. Blue lives matter. He's saying the killing of blacks by whites is not a problem. There's no racial component here. Beto on the other hand is a racial radical, see black church. It's a sort of dog whistle. More fear tactics.

Cruzs believes that there are enough of these morons that if he just parrots the trigger words enough, he wins. This is a test for Texas. Let's hope we pass.

I agree with his position but it is a loser from a voter standpoint.

Disengaged voters aren’t watching the debates so he is only playing to a crowd that isn’t watching.

I think the Facebook clips of the debate that will be passed around will have 10x the audience.

Don’t know the ultimate effect of that but just wanted to remind people it’s not 1976.

Sen fine needs criminal charges. She doxxed a “rape” victim. She obstructed Justice, and has resorted to active measure to sabotage the wishes of the vote of the people.

2,600 counties to 480 counties voted for Trump. This country is more than LA and Manhattan.

I enjoy that both dox and “rape” (quotes) are in the same sentence.

this event is totally not a big deal! and shame on the Senator for outing the poor victim of such a private matter!

Also, the retard refrain of Lock Her Up to all political opponents is as exhausting as it is unamerican. Do you know what criminal charges are? What crime are you talking about?

You think she handled the information properly by withholding it for two months and releasing it with a cryptic twitter post to derail a judicial nomination. She needs to explain herself under oath in front of congress. She put herself before her country and failed at her job.

You said she needs to brought up on criminal charges.  You said that because you have literally zero idea what “criminal charges” means.  You are part of the problem.  Willing to repeat right wing talking points without 2 seconds of analysis  to see if the talking points deserve to be repeated.

Watched a bit of the debate. They both look like some assholes to me. Cruz the gaper. Beto a little more refined but still full of shit.

It is what it is. Will keep invested in veto through early night returns and look to dump after the urban polls come down.

If you’re so concerned, name some major elected officials you don’t think are “full of shit” who are not “assholes”

Didn't watch last night but about five minutes in right now. Cruz is such a little twat. All he does is whine and cry about Beto this Beto that. Half of it exaggerated or false. Little aggy bitch. Just trying to drum up fear among gullible olds and low info voters, reality be damned.

I don't recall a lot of "beto this, beto that" but I do remember hearing quite a few "Hillary Clintons" and "Barack Obamas".  I kept waiting for the camera man to pan to them on stage.

Ted “won” in part bc he took the stage at times and the moderators then let him have the last word and the next question. It’s almost as if he knew the structure and it was his question next so he made his jab then Beto stayed quiet. Ted also hit all of his points, Clinton, Obama, socialist, taxes, jobs, Texas values, liberal activist judges, and on and on.

Beto was inclusive and he’s sticking to it. His coalition is clearly young people, suburban moms, African Americans, Hispanics, and liberal types. He tried to stay clear of labels like democrat and focus on working with everyone, but in the end he was speaking to his coalition.

No one was getting votes I don’t think. All GOTV and charge the base. Beto might wake some liberal sleeper cells and some stuff but really this didn’t seem like a fight over undecideds or vulnerables.

Teds “points” are such contrived bullshit. Pure fear mongering for the olds and dog whistles for the people predisposed to getting riled up about blacks/cops, kneeling, murica. With few exceptions, these are not real issues, just red meat for the mouth breathing base. We are not that far removed from a Republican Party that could stand on ideas and debate them. Now, it’s purely preying on the insecurities of the gullible. Ted Cruz is no better than a guy trying to scam grandma over the phone.

Has anyone ever watched championship debates?  It’s a point based contest to just drop as many points/topics in a small period of time.  It doesn’t mean you can hang in an debate between adults or politicians.  It’s an overrated description that Cruz is a master debater

Cruz only can argue that he is going to protect Texans against coastal, liberal elites.   If that is what Texans prize above all else, Cruz is who we deserve.   Now there is a valid argument whether Cruz even accomplished that goal but that isn’t a general election question to answer.

On second thought, maybe Beto should focus on that Cruz is fully ineffective as a senator.

So, you're implying that Kavannah is indeed guilty of sexual assault?

Do you think Ted actually enjoys using his juvenile debate tactics?  I don’t.  Ted would probably much prefer a more cerebral conversation but that’s not what works.

Ted is a good debater because he knows his target audience and doesn’t shy away from exploiting their vulnerabilities.  He knows the chords to hit to provoke appeal.

It’s total slime-ball politics but unfortunately that’s what sells deep in the heart of Texas.

The fact that he would post this video says a lot about his base.

Republicans don't even need to speak in complete sentences, or hell, speak at all,  in Texas debates. They can just stand there and hold up placards that say things like "Socialism," "Gun-grabbers," "Texas tough," "coastal elites," and "tax and spend," and then hold up pictures of Soros, Hillary, Obama, Schumer and Pelosi.

Since Ted is a practiced mime he would be especially good at this, conveying his disgust with all these alien concepts with his smirks and body language.

Not just Texas. Ted watched Trump beat him and then win the presidency doing exactly that. Trump showed everyone that small things like telling the truth and rational thought have no bearing on elections.

Pretty much this and why I hate debates - fact-checking is almost impossible and the anecdotes from the campaign trail are also unverifiable.

"I met so many people on the trail, including a rancher named Joe from BFE, who said 'thank you for protecting my 2nd amendment rights to own 6 AR-15s so I can shoot all those human trafficking dope smoking illegals.'"

boyfriends killing girlfriends, girlfriends killing boyfriends.  very partially inclusive.  and thanks Ted for making "Why are you such a fucking cuck" a legit question in a Texas Senate election debate.

Beto is normally very smooth, but is normally delivering his stump speech.  He's really good at fielding unscreened questions and saying something meaningful and relatively polished as well (see viral video).  There were a couple of word fumbles and unpolished bits last night (i think he actually led with girlfriends killing boyfriends, and then went back the other way around, that seemed like a trip to me) that seemed like the result of nerves.  He needs to both relax and get a bit angry, and also be a bit more comfortable jumping back in or running a bit over regardless of what the moderator says.

Completely agree. Ted used to debate actual issues. I disagreed with him and found his face punchable, but I respected his intelligence. At this point, he’s selling shit sandwiches because that’s what people are buying.

Yeah, I probably had higher expectations based on the videos I had seen floated around, in which he appears very agile on his feet.  He sounded too canned, imo.

He doesnt enjoy it, but he knows he is in that difficult position of defending the indefensible. Its like mock trial where you have to make an argument to defend a guy who was caught on video murdering someone and signed a confession, and the police, for once, did their jobs perfectly.

Beto gets to argue that shit smells like shit. Cruz has to argue that shit smells like roses, so he chooses the Chewbacca defense instead.

Whats he gonna do? Make an honest argument for why he supports policies that are detrimental to the majority of Texans?  "Look bitches, none of the shit I support is good for y'all, but it does enrich my corporate donors, and I really don't give a shit about y'all anyway, I'm just trying to get rich" doesn't quite work as well as demonizing Beto and Hillary.

Well, yes and no. The high school shooting coach in Graham was awfully specific. Everyone in Graham knows who that is. And if she didn’t have that story, we’ll know about it.

What I meant was he was considered a champion debater at one point (Princeton, I think) and more importantly he’s not unfamiliar to speaking under the brightest of lights and National stages (as well as someone who has argued before Supreme Court). He is a lot of things, but a shakey-dog voice and a little bit nervous on the national stage he is not....much less a second tier college in dallas covered by the C-team media. That was my only point as I agree Trump killed Cruz (everybody really) in debates.

the skateboarding and air drumming and boyish good looks is cool, but when paired with a weaker stage presence and rambling answers, also comes off a bit green which can help (outsider, boyish charm, etc) or hurt (looks like a boy playing a mans game, etc.)

I agree Beto needs to come up with some more one-liners.

"True to form" was a hell of a start.

NOW you fuckers are getting it. UTTERLY INSANE AND FALSE BULLSHIT WINS. It’s the only thing that does anymore. Sure, the truth and decency get some votes - Beto isn’t going to lose by 20. But he IS going to lose.

Because the only currency of WINNING value is bullshit. It’s a race to the bottom, and the GOP has a fleet of F-1 cars to take them there.
