Does it ever get old pretending to be better than everyone else? You can't prove objectively that you're better than many of us in real life, so you resort to doing it on this forum. It's rather pathetic.

Pretty much the same thing with the sooners. Just some good natured shit talking and then chatting politely about our respective trips like normal people. Although opposing fans who are at destination wedding are more likely to be a normal class of person and not mouthbreathing goons, so our experiences may not be representative.

I'll also say that, according to all of my friends who went to Columbus, the buckeye fans were fine. Certainly better than fans in Lubbock or Fayetteville.

Well, they won. Buckeye fans who lose are a bit of a different animal. Plus it was 11 am. So only about half of them were piss drunk and high from eating paint chips.

The thing about belief is that there is no right or wrong because the future can't be proven at present. You can believe in the bright future whereas many others may not. It was a deflating game for most of the fans. Sure, we can bounce back and run the table. I am just not wearing my UT hat in public until other fan bases forget about the game for the same reasons Sydney doesn't want to read negative posts about the game.

After reading your nonsense on this page I looked back, and shockingly, you predicted a 2 TD win and Arch having a VY like performance.  You bought WAY too much into the hype.   Vegas told you this game was a defensive coin flip.  Not our fault you didn't listen and had an "expectation" that was an extremely low probability outcome.  Yes, Arch didn't play well and we sucked in the red zone (as does almost everyone against OSU).   It happens.  Especially on the road against an elite opponent when your QB is making first ever road start.   We lost a measuring stick game close and now have a lot to work on before conference play.  Nothing else changed.

That's not what I predicted. I said, if we have a good start and Sark's script is working, we win by 2 scores. If not, we lose a close one. If you're going to be a white knight for sydney, at least be honest. Anyway, I don't come here for confrontations. Some of you do. I come here for some light banters, so I will leave.

Hey asshole - I may not be better than you but I proudly wore the Texas women's volleyball t-shirt that the nice folks at the downtown men's shelter provided me with Sunday following the game. It didn't even have that many cigarette-burn holes in it and only kind of smelled like urine this time.

Maybe that means I get less handouts while I'm panhandling on the side of the highway - but those are the sacrifices that us real fans make.

My only real overall gripe at this time is another 11am start.   230p is the sweet spot for a cupcake game imo.

Don't fans routinely bitch and moan about 2:30pm September home games, due to the heat?

It's a sweet spot if it is not a brutally oppressive September.

After rewatching I'm feeling a lot better about how close this offense is to being very good. Arch settled in and started showing command in the 4th, and throughout the game he showed a nice understanding of coverage. He just made the wrong read a few times and had bad mechanics making a bad throw too many times. But he knows where to go with the ball. And there were 4 or 5 times where he makes ridiculous throws. It'll just be about tightening it up and learning to control the adrenaline in pressure moments.

On the TD play he does a fantastic job. He recognizes he has man across the formation, and motions the back in to max protect. He knows he'll have Livingstone 1 on 1 if he can look off the safety, but he'll need the time. Great recognition. He looks the safety off left then makes an NFL quality throw and Livingstone fights off the DB for position and the TD.

This one was earlier at the beginning of the TD drive. Once again he checks to keep the back in for max protection. He reads zone, possibly single high, but he does a fantastic job manipulating the safety. First, he identifies the safety bailing out to cover middle. Then he looks the safety over before snapping back to Wingo and delivering a strike where the safety vacated. Great recognition and throw.

This was the best throw of the game by either QB. It's a 3 x 1 vert with the slot running a post or seam (wasn't the best route), Wingo wide running a deep seam, and Endries running the wheel under it. OSU DBs play this very well, notice at the snap Arch reads the half field safety to that side turn and bail deep. At the beginning of the progression Arch sees the corner sink onto the wheel, which makes that wheel a very tight throw to fit in under the deep safety. He said "fuck it, I'm Arch Manning" and throws a got damn laser from the wide hash to the opposite sideline on the fucking money. Not many QBs can do that. That's shit that will keep DCs cursing at their screen in film review once this guy puts it all together. I did not appreciate this throw 10% as much watching it live as I did on review.

We all know later in that drive he misses the throw to Wingo and that was the shot to get the game tied. That's the consistency factor that needs to be overcome in this next month to take the offense to the next level. The line can play. The receivers can play. Endries can make tough catches. Baxter and Wisner are plus pass blockers and get you what is blocked, but hopefully Clark can show he can be a back that can juke a safety or corner and get you extra. This offense is close, but still just a bit doughy in the middle and needs a little more time to bake. We'll get there.

I thought he controlled the IQ aspect of the game, changing protections when needed. I am beginning to think the coaches told him to avoid Downs at all costs, and Downs played some very NFL manipulation on him with false reads. He's likely going to be a Top 2-3 pick, that dude can fucking ball.

Yeah 2:30 is actually the worst for an August/September game, regardless of opponent.  11 AM slightly better.  7 PM (or later) is preferred.

Exactly.  You don't go mow your lawn at 2:30 in the afternoon in September normally, so why would you clamor to go watch a football game, for 3+ hours, while drinking beer?

You're gonna have a bad time

I'll be watching the next 3 games with interest to see what Arch and his mechanics look like (because what we saw Saturday wasn't what we'd seen before) and what kind of improvement we can see as a program.

this is what i'm looking for the next few weeks , the other three are

does Baxter returns to form against a non NFL line ?

similarly who are our top receivers in their position groups ?

does our team show consistency against inferior teams / are they disciplined ? should see a heavy dose of rotations and back ups early

i think the 3 of these questions tells us whether or not we have a playoff potential team

All this, plus I'm interested to see how backups and younger players who get rotated in do. Especially Christian Clark and hopefully James Simon, but also Kaliq Lockett, Jaime Ffrench, the younger TE's.  Also interested to see if OL backups get in or whether they keep the starters in to just rep them more as a unit. Likewise, on defense, Kobe Black, Xavier Filsaime, Jorden-Johnson Rubell, Justus Terry, et al. I could go on listing names, but even against inferior opponents, we can still get a sense where these players are at.

Obviously, everyone wants to see how Arch plays and his throwing mechanics. Hoping we see some touch and lateral passes in the mix. Emmett Mosely should be coming back from injury as well.

Our fan base has always pretty much sucked ass.  Fair weather and low football IQ.  I mean really not that different than most fan bases but at Texas the absolute entitlement is something.  Way too many people have forgotten the 12+ years we absolutely sucked and would have lost that opener by 40+.  That being said, an 11AM kick is BS.  It is what it is and a byproduct of Texas being good (TV Picking it up) but it sucks.  If it were a night game, I would be leaving the soccer fields in Dallas with fam direct to a hotel then tailgate.  Instead, I'll be dual tasking watching soccer and first half on the phone.  Not cool.

Which 12 years?

2010 to 2022 or 1986 to 1998?   Or both?

11 AM kick offs suck especially considering our home schedule is horrible.    I was surprised though it will be on ABC vs the SEC Network or ESPN 2.  I guess our cupcake game this week is the best of the cupcake games in the conference?

While it is, at least according to Bill Connolly's CFB rankings, the biggest reason is that neutral fans are still curious about whether Arch can bounce back.

Also the early slate doesn't have a lot of big names - Iowa/Iowa State and Baylor/SMU are very regional rivalries, and Illinois/Duke has zero cachet outside of real CFB fans.

The Insider from FCB (I’ve always assumed Gary Patterson is the coach he is talking to)

  Hide contents

In this week's Insider, we get a review of the Longhorns from a former Power Four head coach who is familiar with Texas' personnel following the Longhorns' 14-7 loss at Ohio State.

ON QUARTERBACK ARCH MANNING

"He's going to be fine. It was a weird game because he made some incredible throws, like the [30-yarder] to [tight end Jack] Endries on the wheel route. There are NFL quarterbacks who can't deliver that ball into that window. But then there were three incredibly called crossing routes, one to DeAndre Moore to open the game and two to Ryan Wingo where Manning's footwork was all over the place, and he either skips it in the dirt [to Moore] or throws high-and-behind or low-and-away to Wingo.

"People questioning Steve Sarkisian's play-calling or saying the offense was too vanilla - he was trying to work the perimeter of Ohio State's defense and usually had a zone beater concept on one side and a man beater on the other side. He used motion to help Manning know where the man coverage was and where the zone coverage was. On that first play to Moore, if Manning hits him in stride, Moore might've turned upfield and scored. That's how open he was. But jitters can happen in your first road start.

"On the crosser he threw high and behind Wingo, Wingo's defender had gotten caught up in some wash and Wingo couldn't have been more open. But Arch's feet weren't set when he threw it. He had an open stance, throwing side-arm, like he was impersonating Patrick Mahomes, and missed an easy throw that could've turned into an explosive plays.”

"Everyone's wondering if Texas has any explosive playmakers on the outside? Once Arch starts hitting Wingo and Moore in stride, we'll see their yards after catch. But you have to hit your playmakers in stride for them to be explosive.

"Sark will clean up Arch's throwing mechanics. I actually liked Arch's pocket presence and how he side-stepped a blitzer and stepped up in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. He also made the right checks at the line, getting into max protection when he saw pressure coming pre-snap. He's got a lot of game. He's just got to relax, step into his throws and have fun.

"Arch is the kind of guy who learns from his mistakes. By the time he heads to Florida to start SEC play in his next road start, he should be dialed in."

ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE

"All of Texas' offensive linemen need to finish blocks better. Trevor Goosby, playing with a cast on his

hand, was a warrior. I've always liked Connor Stroh since he was in high school, because he's a massive guy [at 6-foot-7 and 341 pounds] who enjoys the play-in, play-out fights you're in on the offensive line.

"Cole Hutson looked comfortable making his first start at center and has some athleticism. DJ Campbell's first-down holding penalty in the third quarter was a killer, because it put the offense behind the chains and resulted in Arch forcing a ball downfield that was intercepted.

"Even though [sophomore right tackle] Brandon Baker had a couple miscues in his first-ever college start, he's got good technique and should only get better. And the [Neto] Umeozulu kid played well when he came in at left guard. That O-line was better than what I expected in the run game and in pass protection."

ON TIGHT END JACK ENDRIES

"He's not as long as Gunnar Helm, but Endries might be faster than Helm. He's also a good blocker. Endries is Sark's kind of tight end. This guy is gonna make a lot of plays this season."

ON THE DEFENSIVE LINE

"Cole Brevard, Alex January and Hero Kanustood out among the interior D-linemen. Brevard can hold up against double teams at the point of attack, and Kanu and January use their hands well to get off blocks and get into gaps and will only get better. Travis Shaw needs to be more consistent, and Maraad Watson got a bit of a lesson in big-boy football. But all of those guys can play and will continue to rotate.

"At end, I really like Ethan Burke, because he's super physical and does a good job bull-rushing linemen backward into the pocket. He consistently sets an edge against the run.

"I thought Colin Simmons would play more physical, because they [Ohio State] were accounting for him and kind of got him out of his game. His hands to the face penalty on third down, when Graceson Littleton made a great pass breakup to get the defense off the field was an absolute killer. That led to points for Ohio State.

"For all the talk about Trey Moore playing linebacker, he was up on the line of scrimmage most of the time, and he was reading too much and was sort of a non-factor. I've just never been impressed by Moore as a run defender on the edge."

ON TEXAS’ LINEBACKERS

"Liona Lefau played a hell of a game with the exception of the hands-to-the-face penalty that negated a safety. Ty'Anthony Smithplays hard and plays fast. He's gonna be good. Anthony Hill was just off from making a couple big plays, including on the fourth-and-goal touchdown run [by OSU running back CJ Donaldson]. Hill shot through the gap on that play but got there too early and actually missed the ball carrier [Donaldson]. But it's a pretty good day as a defense when you hold a team like Ohio State to 14 points and 203 total yards, and your two best players on defense [Hill and Simmons] were sort of non-factors."

ON THE SECONDARY

"All the talk heading into the season about freshman Graceson Littleton being a special talent was right on. Wow. Littleton made a bunch of elite plays, including two big-time pass breakups with one of those against Jeremiah Smith. His third-down tackle in man coverage on Brandon Inniss on a crossing route to force a punt with like two and a half minutes left to play was outstanding. Littleton's playing time will be going up, I can tell you that.

"The communication in the secondary between Michael Taaffe, Jahdae Barron and Andrew Mukuba last season was pretty special. The communication in the secondary this year isn't there yet, but it will improve."

ON SPECIAL TEAMS

"If [punter] Jack Bouwmeester can keep doing what he did against Ohio State, pinning teams deep in their own end, he'll be in the mix for the freakin' Ray Guy Award. He was outstanding. The defense should already love him for consistently flipping the field, and his gunners did a nice job of downing the ball inside the 10 and inside the 5.

"I'm not sure what's going with the return game. They don't have anyone explosive returning kicks. I might rather have Ryan Niblett's explosiveness on kick returns instead of both of my lead running backs [Quintrevion Wisner and CJ Baxter]. On punt returns, it seemed like all Niblett did was let the punts bounce and roll further into Texas' end of the field. Heck, I can do that. They gotta figure that out.

"Speaking of Niblett, I thought he'd be a strong candidate to replace the speed of Jaydon Blue out of the backfield. Texasneeds to have someone explosive in that Blue/Keilan Robinson role, and Niblett seems like he could do it."

ON TEXAS GOING FORWARD

"I think the three best teams in college football are Ohio State, Georgia and Texas. If Arch uses this loss as a great learning experience, and if Texas improves from week to week, I think they'll be right where they want to be at the end of the season."

Wow this is too reasonable

Thursday - Nearing the end: Bobby

Spoiler

OTF Premium Thursday - Nearing the end

Bobby Burton

By Bobby Burton

Let’s start with the really good news. The wait may finally be nearing the end.

True freshman defensive back Jonah Williams, who took the Texas baseball team by storm this spring, has returned to “full” practice for football. He had been nursing a hamstring injury for months that sidelined him from practice sessions.

His regular season game debut may come as soon as this week or at some point over the next two games so long as there are no physical setbacks.

Williams is a very gifted athlete. While it’s going to be hard to break into the rotation at safety given the talent and experience at  the position, Williams could help Texas almost immediately in the return game.

At any rate, Williams should see the field at some point soon, and prior to the SEC opener next month.

**

The news for Wardell Mack isn’t as encouraging. The redshirt freshman defensive back was picked up on DUI charges and booked into Travis County jail early Wednesday morning. He has since been released.

Steve Sarkisian provided a statement saying that the matter would be handled internally.

That’s exactly how Sark handled things with freshman offensive tackle Nick Brooks this spring. Brooks did not appear in the game against Ohio State.

Brooks is expected to play during this three-game non-conference stretch.

**

Sark reiterated what he told reporters last week about the health and availability of Stanford transfer receiver Emmett Mosley V. He said Mosley, if he plays, would be limited.

Is Niblett just a straight line speed guy? I feel like they've tried him all over the place, including punt returns (and defensive back prior to that) and nothing works.

Must be.

If he is even 75% of Jaydon Blue or Keilan Robinson, you aren't moving him to defensive back 6 months ago. That was a red flag.

If Arch uses this loss as a great learning experience, and if Texas improves from week to week, I think they'll be right where they want to be at the end of the season."

pour me about 4 shots of that please

so 2 defensive flags cost us 9 points - that's a pivot

First I hate it when hot straight women wear the lesbian flannel uniform, it’s so unfair.

second, I rarely wear Texas gear anywhere except at a game or watching a game on tv, and I squat to pee but I can fight you so fuck the haters.

The issue is not whether or not you wear Texas gear. It's the decision to not wear Texas gear after a loss.
