This is exactly right, and it is good for the program to not get bullied or intimidated by this kind of bullshit and it is good for the players in the program to see what happens when guys try to pull this kind of bullshit. Too many guys have a distorted view of their own worth. They should be free to pursue whatever avenues they like, but that doesn't make Texas the bad guy, and Texas is under no obligation to overpay because of feelings. This is a good development for the future of the program.

Since we have zero governing body I’d like to see all major programs take a stand. We were all sick of ND getting a pass into the playoffs being independent and playing the most favorable schedule they could find. USC took a stand on this and good for them. We aren’t playing ya so you can get fucked. Nothing will change unless the schools band together and say enough is enough. I’m not mad at Parker and I wish him well. You always bring levity to a situation with your posts.

a lot of schools are dealing with portal fallout right now. It’s odd to me we are to the extent we are as we are a top 5 destination but whatever. I’m waiting for the gossip that will likely hit the webs in a couple of days. Something is brewing.

Thankfully we're not paying this bum $500K to drop passes for us next year. Would swap him for an IOL any day of the week.

The criticism of Sark and Texas in this situation is kinda funny.

Probably moreso than any other program, Sark has tried to retain players and keep some sense of normalcy & consistency with the roster. He got some key portal additions but didn't go crazy. This was the ideal way to be successful, and two straight semifinal appearances understandably felt good.

Bigger picture, I think Sark wanted to continue to build the positions rooms from within and trust their development/evaluations, but we clearly got burned this year. You simply don't have time to build/develop when everyone else is making immediate fixes/upgrades to their rosters. I actually commend him for trying to keep it old school and not immediately succumbing to the huge free agent frenzy. But now he has to fully give in to the portal/NIL era.

Sark's most successful season is when he completely raided the portal for WRs. Isaiah Bond who was playing like our our top receiver before he got injured in Dallas, Silas Bolden who gave 100% on every snap and made big play after big play, and oh yeah some guy who saved our asses by the name of Matthew Golden. The portal has definitely surpassed HS recruiting in importance, and I don't believe bringing guys in that way is an obstacle to having a culture, either.

If a kid is told he 6 on the rotation of 4, regardless of the money you are pushing him out. You know he isn't just going to "not play". It's not even a conspiracy. It's what coaches do when they want to push people out. It's weird to me that you guys think 16 people went into the portal because they wanted more money. Lol. But I will leave y'all too it. This is why I stay off the recruiting board.

Here's a thought, you want prime time money maybe perform like a prime time player. Wide open drops and not dominating the competition ain't it. Get big or get fucked.

I don't see them not paying Arch, McDonald, Simmons, etc. Why? Because they fuckin make plays. I'm not paying ribeye rates for fuckin sirloin.

The player himself comes out and tweets.

Wait a minute, the player himself tweeted it??! Well stop the presses!! There's no way a 20 year old kid would ever use social media to portray himself in a better light!! Surely, he'd come right out and tweet that Texas wouldn't meet his asking price if that was in fact the case like those agenda-pushing 995s are claiming.

He also tweeted that he was a "Longhorn through and through"... Forgive me if I don't believe a single word of that tweet when he claims to be a "Longhorn through and through" and then schedules a visit to OU.

Oh and his second most successful season, our best receiver was a portal guy we got from Georgia.

Some of this is just so hard to believe.

College aged kids have always made intelligent financial decisions. It’s just not an age that they pay attention to money over the best choice.

he's chasing money instead of greatness

I don't really understand why the out of his control comment is being seen so extremely negatively. To me, it is out of his control that his playing time will decrease. I think that is legitimately true. And I think him leaving Texas to pursue more playing time (and money perhaps) is a choice. Both things can be true. I didn't read his comment as an attack, but apparently a lot of people did.

Pretty easy to understand... Texas is trying to upgrade several starting positions and not overpay depth guys.

  • RB (Wisner)

  • WR (Jaggy & Moore)

  • LB (LeFau)

His comment is either a lie (he wanted to stay but wasn't allowed to stay) or misleading (he was willing to stay if his demand were met, and his demand wasn't met). There's no other way to read that comment. If he's lying, that's shitty. If he's trying to mislead the reader, that's also shitty, and yes it's also an attack because he is, or his agent is, or most likely both are, upset they couldn't get more than a mid-six NIL rev-share. That or Bobby's and the other 995ers' source(s) are all lying, and I don't see why they'd lie about that having been on the table for Livingstone.

He did not have to include that comment in his little farewell post. Every other departing player has managed to express gratitude without saying something that's, at best, misleading and that cannot be interpreted any other way but as laying blame to the organization for pushing him out.

Really only one guy arguing that Parker was forced out

What is Sark's policy on his player's going into the portal?

This situation is no different from a year-end performance review not going the way the employee expected. As an employee, you feel like you deserve a higher pay bump but the employer disagrees. You choose to leave and blame the employer for not valuing you. Both parties are better off parting ways.

The portal has definitely surpassed HS recruiting in importance, and I don't believe bringing guys in that way is an obstacle to having a culture, either.

This also shines a spotlight on the difficulty of recruiting the portal in the modern age - each one of those guys was a lesson unto itself. Bond got the money and immediately came in as an entitled diva who set all time high water marks for entitled douchebag behavior. He was unfocused, was a bad teammate and the team ultimately let him hide behind an injury to save face for the fact that he was flat out benched by the end of the season for being unreliable. Golden was the complete opposite - he came in focused and motivated to improve, and he did and was a portal success story that you'd want to identify and emulate. AD Mitchell was in-between Bond and Golden - less focused and more of a pain in the ass than Golden (his NFL pre-draft comments were accurate) but not the disaster that Bond was and Mitchell performed on the field.

The portal is like speed dating, with the extra variable that you don't know how the money changes players. As the system starts to mature into approaching some kind of equilibrium and more players get more money sooner, then it may well turn out that throwing more money at players in the portal who have already been paid substantial amounts doesn't run as much risk at distorting their development. Figuring out not only who is the right fit for your team or who may have untapped potential, but also who is going to be coachable and fit into a team (I.e. not just be about their own stats for their next payday) is of utmost importance, but also really difficult.

It will be interesting to see how things evolve in figuring out how to value those intangibles. Guys like Livingstone and Wisner were legit good culture guys - they did their work, they played hurt, they were good teammates. That's not a given up and down the roster. It would be a mistake to overpay for those qualities or feel like you can't lose those kinds of guys, but it isn't wrong (at least in my view) to value it. I think in previous years Texas has probably overvalued it, so I welcome this development, but I also think this is an experimental time of dialing things in during a whirlwind. None of this is easy.

I am considering asking for some money or I will portal to another program. My strategy is simply this:

I am asking how much Banks and Flood make. And asking for that. Considering all my years of fandom and traveling and money spent on years of nothing but losses and heart ache and years wandering the desert

I mean If we are going to pay Sark’s buddies to be on the coaching staff to suck ASSWATER and not do much worth a shit the team can pay me to watch Sark squat and call slow ass developing plays that have no hope of generating a score, I see no downside. I’m sure to see an offer soon, check’s in the mail and all that,

Imagine getting in your feels and coming up with dumb conspiracies over Parker fuckin Livingstone. Dude was decent and that's it. We can do better. Bye, and I will never think about this player again, unless and until we play whatever shitty ass team he transfers to.

This guy is a clown. Not worth all the energy being expended here on his “poor me” narrative.

He’s not that good. If OU picks him up, it’s just to pick his brain about the offense.

21 minutes ago, Bevoette said:

I'm just gonna say this. I fucking hate the portal

The portal is fine. The timing of it is not.

Not making a decision is making a decision.

If he did not want to leave, he should have signed the offer. End of story.

He wanted more money. Did not accept the offer on the table, and his value was such that without a signed offer, he was expendable. The choice not to sign was the only choice made.

What is interesting is that in negotiating ANYTHING the only real power you have is to say no. But you must also understand that saying no, also comes with risk of no deal at all! That's where the balls come in. Parker quite simply overplayed his hand, and was forced to fold at Texas.

College athletes were thrilled when the portal became a thing, and it has paid off for many.

However, what is interesting (and slightly funny) is that so many assumed it was all upside, except for two little icky things:

1: Leaving for more playing time/money is great...if you can find a better situation. For every Joe Burrow story, there are two Tate Martells.

2: Players can come in and replace YOU

I thought it was known that if a player officially entered the portal (submitted paper work) Sark made it clear there was no returning to Texas. Which is how it has to be.

I have absolutely no idea. He has recently whined about the lack of professionalism from player's agents, claiming many have no accreditation or understanding of the process whatsoever.

I did see an interesting TikTok created by a female volleyball player. She said it was unnerving how the minute she placed herself into the portal, she was instantly cut off from all university services such as gyms, weight rooms, health services, trainers, tutors, advisors, etc. I wonder if athletes understand that.

Well some teams like KState and Oregon State need help. So I’m guessing they are excited the portal is so vast right now. I just want our oline fixed man. And whatever players Muschamp thinks he needs. The Oline has to be fixed. Find some dudes. Big dudes who are older man.

Scuttlebutt from the NFL thread is Pistol Pete Carroll is one and done in Vegas…So Sark to Vegas? I kid I kid. There is a gonna be a massive suck for Arch campaign by some NFL team next year. Some don’t have to try to suck but still.

Just fix Oline and find a RB that can get at least 100 yds per game and it don’t matter man. We should roll! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

That's it? That's your smoking gun?

Here's the question he was responding to:

"Since you lost four RBs do you expect to bring in one RB or more? And if you could talk about the risk of going after elite receivers with the three freshmen you just mentioned and Jermaine Willis coming in?"

He wasn't talking about negotiating with 2025 Texas players who had entered the portal. You've embarrassed yourself by planting your flag on retard hill with Livingstone.Instead of reconsidering your idiotic position you've decided to die on that hill with disingenuous bullshit.

What’s your point? Do you think tampering doesn’t exist and players (via agent or direct) aren’t hearing numbers before they actually enter the portal?

Didn’t Sark let someone go in the portal and come back a year or so ago? Am I imagining that? I know a couple of guys have said they were going to portal but weren’t actually in it.
