Hey a free thinker!

You realize that the vast majority of liberals/leftists don't give a fuck about Destiny, right? I wouldn't have even know who he was before his Jubilee debate clips went around on social media.

Isn't he some gamer guy? I have no idea.

can anyone that is ACTUALLY morning CK's death please explain why. what was it about him that is so worth all this attention? because this sure looks like fascists covering for other fascists, and suppressing any dissent from those who see this as what it is. CK should not be your martyr and if he is, it 1000% undermines anything credible you can say from here.

Because of the brutality of the killing of a pretty prominent person in the minds of a lot of people on this country. I don’t agree with quite a few things he said but I did watch a lot of his videos. Mourning is not a word I would use, but it was a pretty disgusting act that I still don’t think he deserved. Unfortunately, we are rarely able to meet in the middle in this country anymore. We are beginning to look like a 3rd world country with political figures being assaulted and assassinated.

There is no middle for people like Charlie Kirk. He was a bigot and that should never be forgotten.

99.99% (or more) of Americans think this was a horrible situation and should not occur. But people are still allowed to have negative opinions about what Kirk said without that being a celebration of his death.

I was shocked he actually apologized about that one. Not that it makes him any less of a piece of shit.

Not that I think you disagree, but that kind of comment cannot be walked back.  He was very clear.  These vermin believe this shit.

Yeah I'm just surprised they even gave enough of a shit about the backlash to respond.

saying an outrageous comment and then quietly apologizing days later, is the best path for them. Most who agree with him, with either not hear the apology or they will brush it off that of course he had to "apologize" to shut up his bosses.

Are you referring to Governor Greg "Wheels" Abbot?

Yes, as well as MLK called the “appalling silence of good people who do nothing.”

That's a nice quote and all, but there are a ton of good people out there who do nothing simply because they don't want to get fired or arrested.

These are the same people who drove around with stickers on their pickup tailgates showing Biden tied up and celebrate Alligator Alcatraz while pouring out crocodile tears for poor martyred racist Charlie Kirk. These are some dehumanizing, disingenuous, evil fuckers.

So, it's wrong to shoot someone for expressing a contradictory opinion (and I agree).

But it's not wrong to kick someone out of a public university, a spot that they earned and are paying for, for expressing a contradictory opinion?

Y'all really don't see the bright red flashing hypocrisy here?

FFS, this.

You can start with the simple direct quotes:

"You [referring to black women Michelle Obama, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and others] do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously."

The 1964 Civil Rights Act was "a huge mistake."

"If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified."

"The great replacement strategy, which is well under way every single day in our southern border, is a strategy to replace white rural America with something different."

We should be able to "whip foreigners" in the US.

And that's just a start.  He was utterly divisive and shitty.

People who agree with those things don’t see a problem.

If someone who mocked an assassination later acted violently, and the institution had done nothing, they could be sued for negligence.

Universities probably have "zero tolerance" policies toward speech that is threatening or endorsing violence.

Calling for violence isn't the same as expressing a contradictory opinion

I'm not sure if the girl should've been kicked out or not, but if they knew about this incident and didn't do anything they could be held liable.

Did she call for violence?

Look, I think what that chick did in that video is distasteful, hurtful, and ignorant.  Like much of what Charlie said.

But it's problematic to think Charlie Kirk was some free speech icon who didn't deserve his fate and to also support this girl getting kicked out school for her free speech response, isn't it?

Literally none of this is correct.  You are incredibly stupid and should just stop expressing any thoughts on any topic.

You are absolutely right. He did not deserve to be killed in that way, nobody does. Unfortunately it is increasingly common in this country to be taken out that way.

The fucking United States Senator from Utah can openly mock the Melissa Hortman murder and face no consequences.

Random private citizens can't even voice criticisms of the life Charlie Kirk lived.

The sheer number of people falling over each other to pay tribute to an unapologetic bigot speaks volumes about the United States of America.

@Brisketexan - I'm climbing off the ledge.  Not because anything has gotten better, but because there's nowhere for us to even jump.  Might as well figure out how to live like this.  First step is deleting all forms of social media from my phone.  Real life is much more pleasant than life through a screen.  I only find disappointment in learning who people are behind their keyboard.

The bold is the answer. As someone who is social media sober barring this site and college football twitter, I didn't even really know who Charlie Kirk was and his prominence/belovedness to conservative Texans. I blissfully didn't know anyone's opinion on Charlie Kirk, even those very close to me, until after he died. I think in the new era of America, superpowered by AI, the answer is to deccelerate online connectivity and activity and try and curate more in person, microcommunitiies around us.

I mean, I don't know, other than I feel lke you do.

Yep, it's human nature if things are allowed to get bad enough. If hate speech is allowed to go unchecked.

This experience had shown me freedom of speech cannot survive in the 21st century. There has to be major consequences for spreading hate, or else you get a nation of brainwashed people calling for civil war over completely fabricated and imagined transgressions. It's not just the US. You can see signs of it in every developed western country that doesn't clamp down on speech. The UK is an insane mess of propaganda and idiocy right now as well, just not anywhere near the level of the US yet. Same with a large part of Europe.

The US is the one that the elites actively used it to poison their own population so they can steal as much as humanly possible for themselves. Look at all of the legislation republicans have passed since Fox News and social media took hold and went in this direction. Not a single piece of it has actually helped any regular Americans. It's all been about tearing down regulations preventing monopolies, ripping apart the American social safety net, and racking up tens of trillions of dollars in deficit spending only to funnel all of that money in to the pockets of the billionaires.

It's the world's largest shell game. Get you looking over here while they screw you over there. And "we the people" are too stupid to recognize it.

Going forward the only countries that will thrive are ones that put major restrictions on speech and the internet. Eventually every society around the globe will do it and democracy will mostly die out because this isn't sustainable. Of course it won't only be hate speech that is banned, it will be all manner of speech that goes against the ideals of the ruling government.

One of the bests posts on this thread.  The bolded sentence is truth.

I've been thinking for a while that democracy is fucked as a system of government because people can't handle it.  I don't know if it's because of intentional acts by billionaires or the physical laws of the universe.  Either way, it's not working.
