Momma always said stupid is as stupid does.

No, scratch that- she said life was like a box of chocolates

No- she didn't say that either, I think it was something like- don't you fucking stick your finger in that Queso one more time, you damn savage.

No- that's not right eihter.  The last was @closetojumping  which is totally fake news b/c as @RGBIII pointed out it was definitely a chip, which is something I'd absolutely cop to doing, and since you stick chips in a queso bowl anyway and I might have caught a touch of the tism as the kids nowadays say I can't understand and am perplexed why this is not considered socially acceptable behavior to spruce up some bland and shitty queso.

No- now that I think about it mom used to tell me if I didn't have anything nice to say, don't say it.  At least I think she did. If that wasn't her I'm sure someones mom somewhere along the line said that.
So, that was the idea behind no game thread this week.

But, I guess, back by popular demand, here it is.

Post your thoughts on the upcoming game against Sam.  Maybe we can endeavor not to be like a bottom quartile offense in college football this week.  Dare to dream and as always for my guy BIll in Sinton- hook em high like an eagle soars.

Did your momma have sex with the administrator so you could go to the normal people school?

I thought Bill was the focusness guy.

Last week, I said I wanted to see Arch connect with Wingo a few more times and for the OL to cut down on the penalties. They accomplished both of those things.

So this week, I would like to see Arch play with a modicum of competence and confidence. I don't need VY levels of swagger or Colt levels of consistency, just play like the same guy he was against MSU last season. Get him out of the game at half time, regardless of how he is playing, and give Caldwell and maybe even Lacey some reps under center.

I never want to see Stroh on the field again. The experiment has failed and it is time to move on.

THE WKU QB went for 400 yards, 3 TDs & no INTs against SHSU. Just throwing that out there.

DC took entire defense with him to North Texas. New HC with slow coordinator hires and portal leftovers. Name the score game.

If we cant beat them by 30, we likely aint making a bowl

Ok cmon. We lost 14-7 to Ohio st at Ohio st. We didn’t lose 49-7. Not making a bowl? Haha.

These were the three things I hoped I would see from UT before the UTEP game. Suffice to say Texas went 0/3, so I'll just copy-paste them here again and hope we do better against Sam Houston:

Quote

- A clean game with far fewer penalties

- Arch consistently hitting his crossing routes and not firing the ball into the ground with poor mechanics

- A 3rd-down conversion rate that isn't horrific

I consider these realistic asks for a team with CFP aspirations, but I'm sure the usual suspects will show up next week to castigate everyone for having unreasonable expectations, demanding too much from Arch and Sark, etc. etc. when these asks aren't met. As is tradition.

The "Newlywed dream" is gone for Arch.  Evidently, there are two opinions on our QB.  Group 1- OMG! The sky is falling! Bench him and let's get into the learning curve for next man up.  Group 2- Calm down, Francis!  We're not making a ham sammich here.  Building a QB takes time, but how much time and patience do we as fans have? or Sark? or alumni?  Anyone ever read Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?  Dr. Jekyll looked great last year.  The off season was fueled with optimism, dreams of grandeur, and gallons of Kool Aid.   What we've seen from Mr. Hyde this year so far has been not so good.  If you believe Arch is as good as last year.  Be honest, he has regressed.  It is my hope this week his uncles have called him and had a "come to Jesus" meeting or got him "coached up" somehow.  It is not all about us.   Here's a question, what are pro scouts thinking now at this point?  What are his NIL supporters thinking?  I voted to put him on the bench.  How long, I'm not sure for how long though?  As a fan I believe it is Sark's job to put the best players on the field that can win, family pedigrees be damned.  I'm down for whatever it takes.  Witchcraft, voodoo, or Santeria, I'll start looking for a live chicken.  I'll hang up and listen.

OTF Premium Tuesday - Adversity

By Bobby Burton

For those of you wanting obvious answers or quick fixes to the QB conundrum, Steve Sarkisian offered none yesterday.

At his weekly press availability, Sark acknowledged the issues his QB is having but focused instead on the idea that Arch Manning will be better for it once he comes out on the other side.

Of course, Texas fans are wondering when exactly we are going to see the other side. Wil it be in 2025?

The offense has been so lackluster that lofty pre-season aspirations have already been reduced.

I’ll admit, there is wisdom in what Sark said. Facing adversity, then overcoming it, it makes us all better. And maybe that’s what Manning is going through now.

Yet here’s the issue Texas fans are grappling with:

Not all quarterbacks overcome that adversity before eventually flourishing. Some just wither.

Despite what Sark said, there’s no guarantee that adversity will make Arch Manning a better quarterback, or a quarterback that will eventually lead Texas to a college football playoff.

Instead, Sark is making a projection into the future. The problem? A projection doesn’t win games in the here and now.

**

One thing I feel comfortable with is this:

Sark is the coach making these statements and these decisions.

This is not his first time shepherding a talented young QB through early season woes.

He knows better than us whether or not Manning will eventually come through the other side.

**

For those wondering, I remain a big believer in the future of Arch Manning.

I don’t think a QB looks tremendous one year and overwhelmed the next. Not without a level of talent that is hard to stop from eventually blossoming.

The problem is, Manning’s development is behind what we all expected. Well behind.

**

I’ve seen some comments about moving on to Matthew Caldwell at QB. I’ll agree that Caldwell might be a better immediate option if Manning continues to stumble.

But I also want to be clear in this overall assessment:

Texas isn’t going to win an SEC title if Caldwell has to start 6 conference games for the Longhorns.

The Texas OL isn’t good enough for that, the other pieces of the offense aren’t either.

It’s a reminder to us all that it’s not just the QB who is having issues on offense currently.

While so much national focus is on Arch, the offense as a whole has not played well to date.

i've been waiting for someone to voice this

campmanning should have flown in sunday morning for an in-person meeting with sark, cdc and arch

if it's not going to work here, he can declare a medical and portal, but that decision has to be made before kickoff this week

if there is a reason that *we don't know about* for the hyde display the last 3 weeks, sark has to sign up for 'fixing it' or living with the consequences

sark and cdc should put the cards on the table for arch and campmanning: if you don't revert to mississippi-state-arch in the first half saturday night, there are consequences

nothing personal, just business

with a hamstring injury?

we should save him for fair park *IF* he is even ready by then

if we can't beat florida with the backs we have and rpo-arch then we're not beating 0u with or without baxter

Sam’s gonna sit in a high shell all game and see if Texas can run the ball/complete chain moving passes. Rinse repeat from every other team we play this year.

Who did Sark help out of early season woes?? Tua and Mack Jones came out hot early in both his seasons at Bama. Kessler doesn’t fit the bill. Are we talking about 37 year old Jake Locker who was shepherded to a 5 win season as a first year starter? There’s no way Bobby could’ve written that with a straight face if he’s talking about John David Booty or Carson Palmer

Best news I’ve heard

Why, so he can get re-injured against a glorified HS? I see no benefit to Wisner playing in this game. He, of all people, doesn't need more practice. If Texas can't win this game with only running plays and walk on RB's there will definitely not be a bowl game.

I keep looking for positives on the offensive side of the ball, and there isn’t much.  Arch’s struggles and O-line struggles have gotten the majority of the spotlight.  I think more focus needs to be applied to what has been a pretty mid WR room, at least what’s been put on the field so far (time perhaps for a look at other wideouts in game?). The TE room looks more promising in the receiving game, but like the O-line, have had their own shortcomings in the blocking game.  I saw a debate earlier of whether or not this is a rebuilding year.  At least on the offensive side of the ball, I’d say it’s that at the least.

I don’t think anyone is thinking Caldwell could take us to an SEC title. I think we would be trying to avoid a losing season.

Hard to actually evaluate the WRs when most of the passes have been uncatchable.

Hang 70 on em. Shut the haters up.

This is table stakes at this point. SHSU is objectively and absolutely terrible this season.

If we don’t hang 70, concern heightens astronomically.

I want to see an OL who doesn’t make mistake after mistake, WRs catch the damn ball, and Arch complete basic passes that any P4, much less, DI, QB should be able to complete.

We are gonna be a the fuck out of them. Probably a blood bath. To the tune of 27-7 easily

It is gonna be a drubbing where the game will not be in doubt.  Sark will kill clock midway through the third and then remove Arch in the fourth when we are up 24-3

same as last week, i want to see not 1, not 2 but THREE (3) sustained drives from our half of the field, 6 or 7 plays, resulting in points, with no penalties on offense

adding to that for this week against this opponent the number of flags on defense and special teams should be less than 5, with none of them a result of undisciplined play

i also want to see creativity in the red zone - at least 50% of red zone plays should be something we have not seen before

i also want to see the offensive line create an unbreachable pocket - the only excuse for pressure on arch is being outnumbered on a blitz

AND even with all of that, if we achieve it, it only means the sky is not falling

until we prove we can do it in the league, we haven't

if we prove we can't do it against a team in the bottom 10% of the fbs a lot of people who invested a lot of money in this roster are going to be po'ed

it has to go right saturday night

This is such an odd feeling and one I’ve never experienced as a fan of any team. Maybe the closest is the 2010 season because I was a kid and all I knew up to that point was Texas winning. Never watched a game and thought losing was a possibility (except against OU)and I figured that’s how it always would be. Then 2010 happened and it rocked my world. Since then, I was beaten into submission to understand that the world I lived in from 2004-2009 was not a given and it would be tough sledding and anytime I built up hope (2016 ND game, 2019 sugar bowl, 2021 when we started off hot and were up 3 scores against OU), it was quickly flushed down the toilet. This was the first year I’ve built up what felt like legitimate hopeful expectations because it finally made sense. Never in a million years could I have expected Arch to look like this and i keep coming back here each day almost expecting an update that he was just low on battery and they charged him up and now things are back to normal. I imagine everyone else is in the same boat because of the panicked tone in everyone’s posts. I am now fully expecting a Doodoo bowl game against SHSU where we don’t cover and arch looks maybe a hair better than last week and just good enough to keep the job going into Florida but not enough to inspire any confidence is us and from there, well we might just be fucked. Everything I’ve thought to this point has been wrong so we’ll see if that continues.

I think the biggest victory for me will be an opening drive that doesn’t go 3 and out while we look like it’s our first time playing football in our lives
