I'm guessing it's a twitter link. Since twitter is borked today, may be why not showing?

It's the emperor's new post. Kind of like our No. 1 pre-season ranking. From Hans Christian Andersen's story:

"One day, two con-men (a certain head coach & his OL coach) visit the emperor's capital. Posing as weavers, they offer to supply him with magnificent clothes (a championship football team) that are invisible to those who are either incompetent or stupid (national pundits and a majority of the team's fans)."

Well, y'all know how the story ends.

Man, SEC really is different, so much fucking drama, at every school, lol (Ole Miss, LSU, Auburn (including the Harsin stuff), UF), all seem to be surrounded by drama. I'm beginning to think "It just means more" isn't a flex but an admission of absurdity.

That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out observation

He's coming up in our rumor mills too, but not really at or near the top.

I’d you hire  Eric Morris there will be  two Tech grads coaching the big boys in LA.

Can you imagine the irritation of dealing with sports "reporters" asking you the same fucking question over and over every time you step into the open? Sports idiots with access to mass media are a plague.

Pay me 6-7M a year one a guaranteed contract lasting 5-6 years and I will happily stand at a podium and answer the same fucking question over and over and over.

I'll do it for 3M and save the AD a bunch of money.

I already have to say 'its in the spreadsheet, here is the link' multiple times a day, every day. I could do that part without breaking a sweat.

You suggest that people with money are immune to aggravation. You're incorrect. If I were paid extravagantly to do a job, I'd resent doing anything that I didn't have to do. I'd hate being surrounded by idiots. I empathize with people who have to be so.

If my job were to have to be exposed to idiots periodically from day to day for millions of dollars, I, RomaVicta, would make the sacrifice. I don't know that announcing my availability on a message board will make it come true.

Dolla Dolla Bills Y'all!

Everything online of course is with a grain of salt but it has been all but confirmed at a minimum that some donors had given up on Gundy and are likely back in the fold. How much? Who knows. I'm surprised NWA with all its business interests just aren't there yet with football NIL. I think its true based solely on their outcomes.

Gotta disagree with this, even as a known skeptic of a 10-14 ranked team winning (will happen eventually but not likely).

The math alone— giving 12 versus 2 or 4 teams a chance at a post-season NC opens the door for a non-blue blood. And it’s easier to get hot and win three than to emerge from a 12 game season with 0-1 losses, so that’s additional cushion for a team to get losses out of the way early. Plus, in the two and four team format name played a bigger role in post season invites.

The top half of this year’s bracket will include three non-blue-bloods most likely. (A&M, IU, Tech). Eventually a team like that will break through.

I do honestly admire the optimism about eventually one of those teams breaking through, I just don't see it happening anytime soon. The talent gap between just Texas and A&M is pretty substantial. I googled the averages between 2022-2025 and Texas is 4th and A&M is between 10-11 (10.5 is what it says). That's not a small margin in recruiting.

However, with portal additions it's hard to know, but both teams recruit mainly HS talent, but A&M has had to use the portal substantially more than Texas, and it's paying off this year. Now if Elko can continue to recruit elite HS kids (the bread and butter of contenders) and has an eye for talent that aren't rated "elite" the gap will shrink over time. But he has to at the very least recruit top-5 for the next 5 years to even the gap by recruiting ratings standards, just as Sark has done. But after this year, you're losing Concepcion (great pickup), but keeping Craver and Bethel-Roman (a very solid recruit), but then you have to beak in more high school kids, and you aren't going to have a Bethel-Roman every year, which is no easy task. You lose Moss. But keep Owens (he's trash, I'm sorry. He just is), Smith, and Daniels, but you're bringing in two solid RBs, and already have two RS, but they still need to catch up to the speed of the game. You get Reed back, who is much better than any of us speculated would be. So while you do have talent at WR coming back, you still need at least 3 more quality starters, and I don't see any on the roster, so a talented frosh like Myles will either sink or swim, or Aaron Gregory/Kelshaun Johnson (I don't see him making an impact in year one, but I also don't follow Klein's usage of RS-FR, either. He's seemed fast in HS, but I don't and didn't follow him as a recruit and didn't care if we landed him or not. I know we wanted him at some point, but we ended up with Lockett, Ffrench, and McCutcheon, who I believe is a stratosphere ahead of Johnson, but I'm a Longhorn).

I know it looks like I'm tearing your team down, but I'm not. You're just an aggie and it's easier to use aggie players since we all know them. So you lose Moss, Daniels, and Smith, but keep Owens (net negative), and then someone named Jamarion Marrow as a RS-FR, Tiger Ridem Jr RS-FR, and true frosh Hatton (who I believe will be a stud) and Edwards (he'll most likely RS). That's tough, man. That's a lot to replace in the RB room. You lose Concepcion, but get back Craver and Bethel-Roman (both net positives), and then RS-FR five-star Myles back from injury (unknown if injury will linger), as well as RS-FR Izaiah Williams, Kelshaun Johnson, TK Norman, and true frosh Aaron Gregory (will be good), Madden Williams (will be good), and then three-star guys. That's still a lot to replace in the WR room. And we haven't even gotten to the OL or DL/D in general.

Neither of us are Ohio State or Bama under Saban, Kirby where we can just re-load. But the gap is still there. If Sark beats Elko this year it's going to start looking like a Sark vs Venebals problem, or a Sark vs Kirby/Day problem, and that's not good, especially if your key to getting either home field advantage or not in the CFP is in the way. But that's assuming you have another magical year when if you can beat Arizona State, Texas, Tennessee, LSU (it all depends on who they hire. They're a shit show but have talent), Alabama, Florida, Mizzou. Miss St (who have made a serious turn around) and Auburn (I refuse to mention scrubs with little talent like Kentucky, Samford, Arky, SC).

The same goes for us, as we have to beat Ohio State, ou, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, and A&M.

Right both Texas and A&M are #8 and #9 in recruiting, but like always they'll make a jump before signing day. But it's a great first class for Elko, but he has to keep it up. My point being, tech isn't making that jump to NC, neither is Indiana for now, and it'll be interesting to see how Elko faces off against let's say Ohio State, Georgia, Bama. Oregon, Ole Miss, etc. Does he have the talent? Can he sustain talent and not regress? Those are issues with A&M and have been. I realize it's a new regime, but this is uncharted territory, and y'all had the easiest schedule in the entire conference by a country mile, and were gifted a win against ND (but whatever.a win is a win).

There is a reason for over 4 decades a blue blood or new blue blood has won the NC and no one else beneath them has.

We're far closer to Georgia talent-wise and they just rag dolled us in embarrassing fashion. Ours is a coaching issue, not talent issue, and if we continue on the path we're on, we'll be seeing a new regime come 2028.

That is a long and well-thought out post. I think the key difference you’re not accounting for is the portal and how it changes the game.

The model of “stack five stars, keep them and roll a three deep” isn’t the model. It’s “sign as many 5 stars as you can. Dump the dead weight and rob G5/lower tier P4 for the gems you missed the first go-round.” And that is a different game that involves money, planning, and timing more like a pro team than the old model. Keeping a 5* mid on roster does nothing when you can go get a former 3* who busted out.

You can’t project next year’s roster. In Jan. 25, Texas had a much better WR room than A&M. Now you would absolutely trade for ours straight up. No honest poster on this board will deny that.  Will you next year? Maybe. Maybe not. The point is, a smart team and coach can create their own WR room and pass the team who stocked the blue chips.

Likewise with OL. Two of our starters are transfers. The unit is a Joe Moore semi-finalist. We didn’t get all those guys in HS. We took nthem from Kansas and Utah. Colin Simmons is a future first rounder you signed in HS. Cashius Howell is a likely first rounder we stole from Bowling Green. It doesn’t make a a shit how they got on the field. What matters is the sacks and TFL they deliver now. There is another Howell out there and someone will grab him.

You can shit on Tech’s recruiting but Bailey is a first rounder. Rodriguez is having the best season for an MLB since Teo. The gap isn’t near as big as you think it is.

To broaden the aperture: 3/6 of the top half of the bracket are not blue bloods. Add Tech and Oregon in there too. All with key portal additions. It may not happen this year; it will happen one year. Playoffs make it weird.

2023 recruiting rankings are pointless. Who is stil on the roster? Who got brought in? The churn is unbelievable.
