Seems like Hartline aimed kinda low for his first job.  If he had waited a couple of weeks he probably could have gotten a billion dollars out of Penn St.

Why go through the grind of playing in the P5 when you can play in a second tier conference, still make the playoffs, and live in a state with no income tax? Seems like an easier path to a title while living in a place with better weather.

State College or Tampa?

Hartline will win at USF and be able to pick a job... Or he can go to PSU and get fired.

PSU going with the interim coach after all this would be a massive fail. Still plenty of better options out there. I'd be calling Mullen, Campbell, hell even Gruden or Daboll

James Franklin currently has a top 25 class at VaTech and PSU signed one recruit.

Apparently that one player, the Pennsylvania QB, was committed to them, then switched to Auburn, then after AU fired Freeze he switched back. I heard they paid a lot of money for this kid.

I'm sure Charlie Strong thought the same way, but maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

You mean the interim corch that managed to hold on to one single recruit?  Great idea.

Still can.  Just a buyout in the way.

Maybe that’s the plan, just contact every coach and get schools to spend all the money on extensions and then psu swoops in and buys all the transfer talent…

What an idiot.  You’re the one who took him after watching him be terrible and get benched last year.

"Would he be their first black coach?"

Have to remind self that I realized this year that Franklin is apparently supposedly black ('ish).

He could’ve paid anyone here or on the sooner boards to tell him that…what a dumbfuck.

I was going to opine earlier that the carousel has not really been that crazy except for the money. I would have been wrong.

It's just that all the crazy got focused on Penn State.

I suspect that a lot of players on the current team may look to the portal instead of staying on that sunken ship. No recruits. No coach. No winning.

Penn State may have imposed the death suicide penalty on themselves. They should never have emerged from the Sandusky/Paterno scandal with so little damage. They're making up for it now.

I think you can see hell from here, ol' buddy!

When new head coaches sign a contract with a school, are there constraints that prevent them from immediately fielding or accepting offers from other schools? Like a 1-2 year period that they can’t leave without a massive buyout owed to the school. In other words could someone like a Penn St even go after Kiffin today? (This is an example not saying that is a real possibility.)

Jimmy Sexton to white courtesy phone.....

Totally depends on contract. A lot of them have specific schools mentioned in their contract with out clauses. It seems a lot of coaches add an "out" for the school they graduated from.

And most times the new school will cover the cost of the buyout as part of the new contract with the coach. Just depends how badly they want the corch.

I could see it happening this season with Penn State if it wasn't a complete shit show , Kraft must be poisoning the well in his sales job here

Its definitely happened before, Manny _iaz lasted two weeks at Template before becoming the HC at Miami after Richt retired . The difference here was Manny likely didn't know Richt would retire , already knew the AD so he just boomeranged back.

At this stage , WTF is going so wrong at Penn State no one wants the job, there is real blood in the water here that is keeping coaches away

I could totally see that. Sumrall is represented by a different agent.

There were a handful of hit pieces that came out as soon as Florida backed off of Kiffin with behind the scenes details that a lot of Gators took as gospel since they were mad at Stricklin anyway.

Since then, a lot of it has been refuted by people like Danny Wuerffel who was heavily involved in the process and is much more trustworthy than Kiffin or Sexton. And as more of Kiffin's shenanigans have come to light, it's looking more and more like Sexton used his connections to try to make Florida look bad.

That tweet about Jimmy Sexton is bull shit.  If a coach wants to go to Penn State the agent isn’t going to get in the way.  If he did, the coach would and should find a different agent.

This is astounding.   Even the Gators with their new Tulane coach (hired right before signing day) managed to keep every of our early signing studs except one running back.  And running back is not really a problem for Florida right now.   So a fan base that admittedly was not super impressed by the hire at least saw the new guy not run everybody off.

I have no idea how much committed kids like the money - or like the coach - or like the school - but when almost nobody stays that is kind of weird.

When Penn State is finished dickin’ around with all this Mickey Mouse bullshit and they want to get serious about hiring a legit ball coach,  they need to pick up the phone and give this guy a call ASAFP!images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRDtPPbNfTFuuXsW__py6W

I wonder what he means by:

Smith wore the Joe409 patch on his jacket a couple games ago in a nod to GodPa. Is he saying that Smith’s support of Paterno is now a problem?

I can’t answer that as I live on the western side of the Alleghenies.

It doesn’t seem like a bunch of offers went out after Freeman and the other top 2-3 choices weren’t interested. One was to Elko who stayed put when it got matched or bested by A&M. Then he zeroed in on Sitake and spent a month trying to convince a Mormon to leave BYU for some stupid fucking reason. Thought he had him so he cut bait on Chesney et al not expecting the hard sell from the LDS and the cookie cash once word got out. By the time he realized he lost him all of his plan Cs had signed on elsewhere because signing day was 2 fucking days away.

So he fucked himself because he didn’t give the Tongan a deadline that left him any room to shift gears.

Now he has to try to sell a job to someone he never considered after losing almost the entire recruiting class.

Watching 10 minutes of film from his one year at OU would have stopped that.
